This dinner scene is the basis for a storyline I concocted a while back for the final denouement of the Luke and Laura story. My ending of their last adventure, along with a parallel storyline that includes the hospital and staff (like these times back in the 80s), has Luke finding out that the Whitaker farm has been put up for sale and he secretly buys it. After the end of the adventure he takes Laura for a "mystery drive", and they end up at the entrance of the farm and she sees the "for sale" sign. He pulls the sign down, drives up to the front porch, where they are greeted by Rick and Lesley, and half of Port Charles is inside when they open the door, and it's one big party. The camera fades out to the usual noise and conversation of a Port Charles get together, and it's "The End". Works for me....

I've thrown bits and pieces of my story in commentaries on different KZbin LnL type sites, but I have never put the full story out there. I love to comment, but I'm really kind of private about the full story - unless they were ever serious about making it. Then I'd give it all to them to make the movie and walk away happy. mmort55 Yes I do agree with you whole heartedly. I know it just a shoe. A soap opera it was the storylines the people who were part of all that. So much adventure. Different peoples lives taken the time to open there doors ...so we can take a peek inside there lives. We walk around in our own but suddenly we find ourself in someone else wow. I guess you can call it a turn on to be able to look pass our own and watch and only hope there lives come out just a lil bit better. We don’t think about are own for at least a enjoyable or sad. funny or sometimes outrageous story’s of there own. We sit back relax and watch hopefully and crossing our fingers that thing will work out for the best. Yes you many wonderful fans out there that do the same. Soap operas take us where we wish we could or can’t go. We cherish those moments we savor those people there working together to bring enjoyment if only for a while the overwhelming adventure that entices and makes our day ..just a lil bit more to looking forward to seeing more of a real good thing the very next day. I know it's farfetched, but I am hoping that Luke comes back alive, Laura gets a divorce, quits being mayor...then they travel together again...just dreaming.

Luke was a master with kids on the show, like he got to know them well before shooting scenes. He was a great father, though a bit unconventional. His kids adored him till rewrites. 🤦‍♀️

Yet later he says he never wanted kids, never wanted to be tied down, never wanted such a needy woman as Laura. Even Tracy tells Laura that she is a much better woman for Luke than Laura ever was. Just another great rewrite by some horrible writers, It is really sad what GH did to the most famous supercouple of all time. If they would have had a 2015 reconciliation with a wedding and advertised it like they did when Laura returned in 1983, the ratings would have been through the roof. Then have them sail off into the sunset from Port Charles. Who knows maybe when GF retires Luke will return to claim his Laura and take her on a world trip.

Actually right here you hear the reason why Luke and Laura ultimately could not stay together. They both articulated what they really want which is two different things . She wants a quiet country life with children, which requires safety, stability and security; while he craves excitement, danger and living life on the edge and riches that come with few strings attached.

Luke says he wants everything that Laura wants and more (after she talks about farm life and kids). He does want a fun job I think but when he talks about the Whitaker farm after getting back in the summer he recounts the joy of milking cows and country life. The producers/writers just make Luke into danger so GH can make even more $$ with another LnL on the run story...

@highhopes3820 When Laura tells Luke that she's pregnant in 1984 ( they are living in Texas on the ranch) he confesses to her the secret that he's always wanted to be a father. He also goes out in the hall with her while they are both wrapped in blankets and sheets and yells, "The Spencers are pregnant!!" He can't even wait to put clothes on to let everyone know. Luke is at least as excited as Laura about having kids. Original Luke wanted kids very much!!

By the way she looked around at the tables, it was probably the intimacy in public thing. But dinner and a dance is fine. It was scripted either way. Their acting was flawless.

Its interesting how now the reason Luke is giving for not getting back sooner is the grubstake for the future. And Scotty is now just "an obstacle" to be gotten over. Its funny the writers were adjusting the truth in this story arc as well. Quite a change since the six months before when they got back to Port Chuck.

In this conversation they had, she freely admits she's had enough adventure to last a lifetime (am I remembering her words right?) and yet they had them on the run from Frank and break up of marriage later seemingly because he couldn't give up lifestyle for settling down, but here... he seems open to settling down?

Yes! Always annoyed me how they re-wrote their history to suit the Tracey-Luke fans (and TG, I know, I know). Sure, she's married to Kevin now, but I keep hoping that since Laura has been sent off (yet again) to be with Spencer that she and Luke would run into each other in Europe and start all over again...the fans would know because there would be a letter from Tracey to the Q's AND because Kevin would get a "Dear John" letter...just think how Kevin & Scott could commiserate together over their 2 L's (Lucy & Laura). The start of a beautiful bro-ship AND the L&L fans would get the right ending of the story, even if it's off screen.
