Now that you finally met mama Schnee I can talk about the very interesting thing about the Schnee family. That's how they all handle abuse differently. They all represent one of the four F's of coping with abuse. Fawn, Freeze, Fight, and Flight. Whitley is Fawn, in fear of being abused he will do what is father says in hopes to be spared. Willow is Freeze, she freezes in place and lets the abuse happen and hides behind the bottle. Winter is Flight, she choose to flee the house and join the military. Weiss is Fight, she has actively fought Jacques in many way's. One such example is agreeing to his test which allowed her to go to Beacon.

The scene with Ren is because it's reminding him of Kuroyuri. He's haunted by the idea of what happened to both of the places he called home. Both Kuroyuri, then Beacon. Also to explain why he seems to be more likely to follow Ironwood is because much like his father saying "take action son." Ironwood seems to have the same sort of mentality. Ren finds himself in survival huntsman mode. Following orders, protecting what matters. He's really hard on himself and their past experiences are just ramping up the anxiety he feels knowing what they are up against. He wants someone like his dad to take the stress off and give him direction.

I love that scene between Winter and Penny. It really shows how each of them think they should act. Penny doesn't get why Winter considers her outburst bad, because Penny see's that as a human thing to do. Penny, who is a robot, act more like a human than Winter, who is a human that is trying to act more like a robot by burying her emotions.

Just to clarify, Ruby is currently 17 and Oscar is ~15 (he was 14 on the way to Atlas but likely aged up during the timeskip montage, according to the wiki). Also, that hole in the wall of Mantle is what Robyn was trying to get fixed by stealing supplies from Ironwood's convoys. The materials that were meant to be going to the wall to fix it were instead going to Amity--that's why Robyn was so adamant about knowing why.

The chaos of the dinner, the way Jaune, Nora and Ren were so GLAD to just mess shit up. All smiles, they were just happy to be there. Love that for them. Fun fact! That Atlas Academy billboard that Watts was standing in front of at the end of episode 8(?) The students on it are Flynt and Neon! There was some debate on if it was actually them since they don't have their signature looks but like... name me 2 other Atlas students with those same basic features. Exactly, we don't know any other Atlas students WE ALL HAD THE SAME REACTUON TO WEISS ARRESTING HER FATHER!! IT WAS SO CATHARTIC WE LOVE TO SEE IT! Gosh I can't believe next episode will already be the finale, it seems like we just started volume 7 yesterday! I'm excited to see how you feel about it all going down!

24:50 The reason it wasn't rebuilt is because all the resources were going to Amity: they mention it during the training montage and when Robyn ambushes Clover, that the supplies he was transporting were originally to fix the wall. Ironwood said "Eh, just stick some huntsmen there until we're done with Amity" (Ren and Nora were shown doing guard duty on that section). Then the key Huntsmen for those jobs were all summoned as potential witnesses to Jaques party, removing them from the equation at the worst possible time.

Fun fact: Willow was first introduced to fans through the RWBY comic miniseries by DC. She played a significant role in Weiss' chapters of the comic. As for why Mantle's wall has a hole in it, it's because Ironwood kept taking the supplies needed to help Mantle in order to speed along the Amity project. And the name of that Grimm was a Teryx.

I’m so proud of my girl. There’s some delicious irony in using her Arma Gigas summon from preventing Jacques from escaping, since he was the one that pit Weiss against it to keep her from leaving Atlas to attend Beacon. The infuriating thing about that dinner meeting, putting aside his motivations and the crimes he committed to get there, Jacques’ arguments against Ironwood had a lot of weight to them. It’s a natural and entirely predictable consequence of how Ironwood has been operating since Beacon. If it wasn’t for the empty council seat, this would have probably happened a lot sooner. Ironwood made unilateral decisions that negatively impacted the entire Kingdom and he had refused to offer a single justification for any of it to his colleagues. The embargo and border closure would have had a huge impact on the local and global economy, not to mention cause further damage to Atlas’ relations to the other Kingdoms, which were already strained after the Fall of Beacon. The latter puts Ironwood’s own plan at risk, it’s a little difficult to unite the world after you chose to abandon and shut them out for months. Then there’s the relocation of resources for Mantle’s defences that put the entire city at risk, which is a major red flag when Ironwood’s job as both a Huntsmen and a General is to keep people safe. Throwing more Huntsmen at the problem isn’t enough, Mantle at least deserves a wall without holes big enough for large Grimm, and failing that a damn good explanation for why their Kingdom’s supposed protectors have failed in their duty to fix it. Not even getting into the trampling of rights, or all of the unsolved murders of Ironwood’s critics, or the failure to identify the hacker from the Fall of Beacon. The evidence mounting against Ironwood was damning and he only looks more suspicious when he covers everything up under “classified information”. I get really uncomfortable thinking about what would have happened if Weiss hadn’t intervened (despite being ordered not to). Ironwood’s too stubborn and paranoid to offer an acceptable explanation, and the Council and Robyn Hill were well within their rights to treat him with suspicion. The thing that worries me most about it is that Ironwood would have been unlikely to give up power willingly, especially when in his own mind everything he does is justified and necessary. He threw Ozpin under the bus to get his way back at Vale and he’s far more desperate now. I believe he would have crossed a line and done something very stupid.

Ghost seeing the massive hole in the wall. "Why wasn't that rebuild?" Because IronWood has been stripping Mantle of the supplies they need to fix it for the amity tower. This is the main reason why Robin was against him at first. The supplies she needs to protect her people aren't there, which is why she started stealing them. IronWood may say he cares about Mantle but he doesn't, he just see's it as he put it in chapter 7 this volume. "A few city blocks." And now in chapter 9 it's starting to come back and bite him.

I love the dynamic between Penny "the mechanical girl that has a very human core" and Winter "the human woman that has trained into herself (or had trained into her) a very mechanical demeanor". Also 100% think Penny is right in Winter being in the right to go off on Jac-ass. - Your reaction to "you left him with us", is pretty close to my own xD Especially since both seeing him as a brat as well as see why he'd be one are valid and justified. - I'll go one further in the cyber incorporation aspect (even though I love and root for further technological advancements): imagine having cybernetic brain implants that end up getting hacked or virused. Very Ghost in the Shell territory. - I love "As above so below" ngl, partly cause I love multi-dimensional stories overall xD - Love Robyn throwing the chair cause the people most hurt by Jac-ass's schemes are Mantle's people aka her people. - The hole in the wall is what materials were redirected from, so that'd be why it wasn't repaired xD Further showing how low Mantle is in IW's thoughts as well as reinforcing what Nora said an episode or two ago in calling him out over it. That he couldn't even put together some alternative to patch it. - Oh and the shot where everyone is talking is the first chance iirc to get a really good look at Weiss's grandfather Nicholas Schnee in his armor in the painting. - My issue with anything between Ruby and Oscar has to do with him having Oz in his head as well as fusing with Oscar. In essence being in the vein of teacher/student, grown adult and early teens girl that is just full of nooooooooooooooope. - Can't wait (but can just matter of speech) for the next batch of episodes, its going to be top-tier. Robin Hill was fighting as a councilwoman for Mantle (and stealing from Ironwood after the failed election) to rebuild that wall and probably many other parts of Mantle. Oh, the absolute CATHARSIS of Jacques getting arrested and taken away! Everyone was cheering! It’s fun to notice how Weiss addresses each parent. She calls Jacques “father” (formal), and she calls Willow “mom” (informal, familiar). It’s a good indicator of her relationship with each one. Jacques knows this, too, what with how he brought up how upset Willow was when Weiss left (earlier in the volume after meeting with Ironwood outside the mines) just to hurt her. All-around asshole who got what he deserved! Whitley (being left alone with an alcoholic, uncaring mother, and an abusive, power-hungry father) did what he had to to “survive” in the Schnee household. I didn’t like him when he was first introduced, but he grows on you pretty quickly, if you can believe it! He was influenced by his asshole dad, but perhaps he can be changed, too…?

As much as I don’t like Jacques I can’t say he’s entirely wrong. As he and the council bring up, cutting off Atlas from the rest of the world with the embargo and closing borders has only hurt their relations with everyone else. Not to mention, as Robyn points out, his negligence regarding Mantle is just keeping everyone down there in a foul mood and allowing for more Grimm attacks. Robyn mentioned a hole in Mantle’s wall (and we even this giant hole in episode 9) and you would think you could at least spare some man power to fix that. And that’s not even getting into the fact that Ironwood neglected to update Mantle’s security which allowed Watts a back door into Atlas’s newly updated systems. Small detail but I love that Winter clarified her comment about Penny not being able to understand. It wasn’t because Penny’s a robot, but because the Schnee manor is a very personal form of hell for Winter (and everyone outside of Jacques). It’s very sweet and a nice moment between the two. The scene between Willow and Weiss is so good. Such a great intro to the matriarch of the Schnee family. Caitlin Glass does a fantastic job with her voice. Willow isn’t putting the blame on Weiss. She’s just giving her perspective. While Winter and Weiss left, Whitley was literally stuck with Jacques and Willow.

Things of note worth mentioning. As Jacques is being dressed down. Notice the picture of Nicholas Schnee on the wall looming over him. The man who's company he stole. Now looking down upon him. Then as he runs away. He is faced by the knight Weiss summoned. That suit of armor is the same that Nicholas wore. As you see in the photo. So he has Nick looking down on him for his actions and then comes face to face with what looks like the ghost of the man preventing him from running. To Ren. He is unhappy with how the Ace Ops took them down so easily. He is trying to focus on his training. Become like them and thinks he needs to push aside his relationship. Made worse is the moment he lost focus and kissed Nora. Things went to hell on his watch. A side note. Notice Jaune nearly threw up as the ship did a roll. His aura has mostly stopped his motion sickness but big shifts can still trigger it.

I like how the other council members are, with them being so in the dark about most of Ironwoods decisions I thought alot of their points made sense. 3. Ironwood's resolve to focus on the here and now in his conversation with Oscar is tied to Ironwood's semblance. It's not really a spoiler, because it's not mentioned during the show, but the writers talked about it in the lead-up to Volume 8. His semblance is called Mettle, and it's basically an advanced ability to hyper-focus on his goals and resolve to accomplish them whatever the cost. It's often joked that his semblance is just ADHD, but I think it goes beyond that for reasons I won't get into here (due to V8 spoilers).

Ironwood was diverting resources meant to repair Mantle's wall toward Amity Colosseum/Tower. That's why Robin intercepted Ruby's ship when we first met her. Also why she and James have been so at odds.

The wall in Mantle that the grimm are coming in from didn't get repaired because Ironwood and the team were using the materials to repair Amity for the communications tower. Robin mentions how Mantle needs the materials when her and the Happy Huntresses ambushed the cargo truck out in the Tundra in episode 6(?)

Absolutely cackling at your list of 'things that need to happen' and heartily welcomes you to the Oscar Protection Squad: we're completely useless in actually helping that poor farm boy but its nice to know other people care~ XDDD That said, your idea to have Robyn truth check Penny is actually kinda genius! ...And now that I'm thinking about it is another very subtle way RWBY shows people in universe de-humanising Penny; for anyone else the question would be 'did you do this?', for her they don't care about her answers, only Ironwood's for what she 'might' have done... And Ironwood himself, just like with the 'talking to Oscar as if he's Oz' thing, fails to pick up how he dehumanizes Penny by saying stuff like 'She is under my complete control' rather than as you suggested, asking Robyn to try using her semblance, since she's here and all. Speaking of that: Note how Robyn is here and Ironwood's lot aren't making a move to arrest her? That means that most likely they never actually put out a warrant for her arrest, meaning that that whole 'capture her' thing was shady/potentially illegal as all hell. Likewise the things that are being addressed at the table... Ironwood hasn't informed any of the other Councilmen about *anything* he's been doing so from their perspective: 1) Ironwood has closed the borders for seemingly no reason (wariness of other nations declaring war post Beacon was the excuse but as Camilla said: Its obvious no one wants war by now so WTF). 2) People are killing his critics and there's no word on who (we and our main cast know its Tyrian but Ironwood was more interested in capturing Robyn than informing people about a loose serial killer directly working for Salem...) 3) There's everything going on with Penny (we know Penny was framed but consider how terrifying is it that from the council's viewpoint: that perhaps Penny was programed or forced to kill those people potentially on Ironwood's orders and then the whole thing was covered up. Her whole existence in the Atlas military -or is she counted as equipment? D'X- is horrifying honestly). 4) The illegally trying to capture Robyn thing, instead of going after the still active serial killer... 5) Seizing private property for 'Military reasons' that aren't told to even the Council (sure, Ironwood did that to Jacqass Schnee so we personally don't care but that's REALLY alarming from an in universe perspective - probably looks like a blatant power/resources grab. Plus its what had Jacques turn on Ironwood enough to work with Watts rather than continue 'reasoning' with him so that's YIKES in retrospect). 6) Refusing to tell any of the Council AKA Ironwood's supposed equals, the reasons for absolutely any of the above. Edit: Forgot to list the Military nicking of the Mantle wall rebuilding supplies. That'd be part of number 5 next to Jacqass getting his mine taken. Combine all that with the fact Ironwood holds two council seats on what appears to be a five person council (and both his seats, Headmaster of an Academy and Head of the Military appear to be granted by job position rather than by vote) and it really, REALLY looks like Ironwood's trying to take over Atlas as a 'tin pot dictator'... And that he's eerily close to doing so already. (And little do the Council realize that Ironwood's actually been considering it for real, what with the whole 'emergency Martial Law' thing being discussed a few episodes ago... If he'd ACTUALLY done that then Watts and Tyrian wouldn't have had to do anything else I don't think; Mantle and Atlas would've actually been at civil war already -and Ironwood, being himself, fails to realize that in the slightest- Naturally we know he was thinking more about 'how to stop Salem's lot' rather than taking over for power's sake but. I really don't think that would've mattered given what's been happening). And holy hell I've only just started the video and this comment is already huge so er... I'm gonna rest of episode babble on another if I have much else to say. Edit since its just tiny stuff: Love the editing yet again; good on you joining Robyn's part of the table (she deserves the support) and ok wow your semblance kicking in never fails to be hilarious/awesome~ XDDD

​@@gh0xttherebel Hehe, happy to share a bit of light/context on it all~ XD Honestly my first watch about the only things I noticed was the Council being reasonably upset about the Mantle wall and the border's closing; totally didn't pick up on the rest of it at all until reading several other's breakdowns of the scene, so know you've still been VERY observant about this! =D (Still prizing that moment you looked up Martial Law and went 'Oh HELL Nah!' a few episodes before this one because that is the appropriate response to that scene and its kinda baffling how many people miss that despite it being the centerpiece of the scene it's in). The show just does a REALLY good job -perhaps too good a job- of getting us to overlook Ironwood's fishyness via showing mostly his side of the story (aka the clear stress and PTSD he's going through as well as the sheer vulnerability of the Amity Tower plan and having most of the characters we trust on his side), while showing us who's actually behind things, and so when we hear the council's concerns we automatically disregard them because we 'know they aren't true' and we're too busy growling in Jacqass's direction to realize that maybe, just maybe we should be actually thinking about why they're so concerned. We are not immune to propaganda it would seem, even if its both fictional and not being intentionally done by anyone in-universe~ XDDD

Hey Ghost, Wheeling out the old chair, huh? Interesting. ;-) Saw the "Basically RWBY" reaction, comments are off (probably for good reasons), but didn't really like/laugh at the vid either when I saw it as well. It felt like the animator knew RWBY, but at the same time, didn't really know RWBY either. Oh well, moving on. Yeah, these chapters were definitely interesting. Liked that Mama Schnee steps out to help take down Jacques. Shitley still has issues, but Willow isn't wrong. Whitley was also dealing with an emotionally dead mother and manipulative father. Neo is SUCH a good spy, even though she doesn't speak. She IS that fly on the wall listening in on conversations, without anyone knowing. Another theory/reach, hmmm... we'll see about that one. When you catch up, you should probably go back through all of your theories and see which ones were right. :-) Wouldn't mind seeing a video about that. :-) See ya on the next vid Ghost. Dont forget its on the literal north pole You can see Nicholas Schnee on the wall behind Ironwood during the interrogation - Weis' Arma Gigas has an armour of the same design.
