Tks I would be interested to now how you get so much bokeh in your background with m43 sensor. R you using a speed booster ?
@AndreasSando2 жыл бұрын
@@MrAntpre No booster. It’s about 3 meters between me and the background and I use the 25mm f1.7 lens so I guess that’s what makes the bokeh. 🙂

I think the end point of when or why to use a log profile: it gives you more freedom to change and customize your shot into something that didn't exist on camera but still looks believable and natural to the viewer. (For example, color grading. You shoot a scene that has the full spectrum of color in the raw shot, but you color grade it to make the shot only look greenish and brown to the viewer, to better fit the mood or visual impact you want your scene to have.) Log footage basically gives you more wiggle room for changes in post while still maintaining a natural look. You apply certain color grading or changes to non LOG footage, youre more likely to get undesirable side effects or unnatural results that can't be fixed without sacrificing other qualities in your shot. But if you want your footage to look more or less like reality, (assuming the camera is capable of proper exposure for whatever shot you are attempting) using any sort of log seems like an unnecessary step. Because youre just editing the footage to look like it would have in its normal profile. Tl:dr vlog and other logs, are just tools to give much more freedom for visual editing in post without compromising image quality. And likely an unnecessary step if your raw/normal profile footage already looks exactly how you want it to or requires minimal grading. So, an example for when LOG footage is great: 'oh crap, today's set location doesnt match the color scheme we want in this movie, but we already have an entire crew here plus cast ready for shooting. So, shoot in vlog, and you can adjust it easier in post, instead of needing to halt production to have the set/shoot location altered to fit the desired color scheme. Or, 'our budget is LOW! but we want a very specific color scheme to unify the entire movie!' color grading log footage is a lot less expensive than color matching every single prop and costume and set location etc. Its just a tool to save time and money and give film makers more creative freedom in post. Tools not rules! It means you know when and when not to use something.

I'm a bit old school so I like to get the look in camera as much as possible. Tried V Log on my GH4 a way back on my GH4 but although it gave greater DR it lost the tones and was hard to expose when you can't see what your exposing, the light. Cine D seemed to crush the mid tones a bit so the oranges were harder to expose correctly. In the end, I've gone back to standard on the GH5 which suits my shooting style. In my film days on films and commercials, the look was always story-driven, not decided in post.
@AndreasSando2 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree that it’s harder to expose correct, but it’s a little bit easier with the rec709 lut installed on the camera. I still mostly use natural for 98% off all my stuff though. 😃 A lut or specific colour grading is useful in some cases but mostly a well exposed natural looking style is the best, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing! 👊😃

Hey Andrea- good content and keep going. If my thoughts count I will say Standard is the profile I use 98% of the time. Vlog has few pros but lot of cons, especially in low light is quite unusable. In sunny days the impact of an ISO 400 by default means you need filters all the time because with fast lenses there is too much light. Color correction and color grade are not so hard but requires time. Standard instead is ready out of the box, adjuste a bit of contrast and eventually exposure and you are good to go.

Hey man, thanks! All thoughts count! 😄 And I totally agree with you, I use Natural almost all the time. I only use vlog in rather controlled and planned situations not for run n gun. 😃 Thanks for sharing! 👊😊

I've stuck with the natural or standard profiles as it saves time in post. But when I shoot with my Sony A6500 I forget the profile but I think S-Log (it sits on my desk for OBS recordings) and then I apply LUT's to Rec709 that are provided by Sony and it looks great and very close to the natural or standard profiles from my GH5 and G85.

If shooting music videos or films than buy a Sony FX3 and shoot in Log-3 format. In DaVinci Resolve, apply a Rec 709 LUT and color grade accordingly to your desired style specific to your project. Lumix GH5 is wonderful for documentary work with a nice prime lens like the Leica Nocticron 1.2 You get amazing low light quality and depth. Cinelike-D is fine but I agree, Natural with some adjusted settings in the (-) yield the best results as a baseline for post editing. But keep in mind, there's no auto focus like FX3 so the GH5 isn't a great camera for independent film work mounted on a gimbal as a solo shooter. It's all dependent on it's case usage.

By adding V-log, you're not really taking video out of the box, unless your camera has V-log. I'm trying to determine if V-log is even worth the purchase price. So many content creators have sworn off using it - opting for Natural or Cinelike D instead, so I'm wondering the same thing: is it necessary? 🙆 (still learning)
@AndreasSando8 ай бұрын
At the time when I made this video I used almost always natural, and that works perfect in most cases. However I have recently started using V-Log more and more since you get a more dynamic image to work with in post. But that’s mainly because I do more and more film stuff and other things where I need that. If you do mostly content for KZbin or videos for fun then natural or any other style is more than enough! 👍😊

Great video, I have the GH6. I use the natural for documentary or films. All others I use the 709 right from the camera. Music videos I use the cinelike v2. Color grading is not worth my time.

Thanks! Do you use the 709 as it is? Does the GH6 have some pre-installed lut on the 709 then, because in my world the footage would be really gray and dull otherwise? Interesting!

I goto japan in 2 weeks and was thinking of grabbing vlog so I can test it out there for vacay in low light conditions.

Sorry for not replying, I've been burned out by the whole KZbin thing. But to shortly answer your question; No I wouldn't recommend it if you're only using the camera for vlog's, vacation footage and so on. Put your money on better lenses instead, you have much more use of them. Shoot in natural or standard color profile.

Well you need color grading to make it justice and if you do you have much greater dynamic to work with. But in my opinion it's better to just shoot with the natural or standard color profile, that'll do 99% of the time. :)

I'm interested in filmlook, with fx`s I got a good movie image but I don't like movie movement, it`s not a film sensation, although the frame rate is 24 fps ... where am I wrong ? use sony vegas pro. Can I get that movie feel from the software? that I failed. I noticed at GH5 the same as my sony fx , noncinematic sensation at 0:50 and 1:05 kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5uVdqiMoL1-q7c

Normally 24fps and to lower the sharpness a tad gives a more cinematic look. There is every possibility to get a cinematic look with the GH5. The shots in my video are 30fps.
