The custom settings dial is priceless. An absolute godsend. I have to work with the focus transition more. It's another great feature of the GH5/GH5s.

Hey hey again VFX Todd! Its been awhile, hope all is well! The custom settings function is such a time saver, not sure if other cameras these days have something similar. The focus transition is a definitely a nifty feature and I think it's a great tool for people to start experimenting with rack focus shots. Thanks again for stopping by, see you in the next one!

Hi Jason did you ever do a video on a GH5 set up?
@TLDR_filmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again sector9films! Do you mean in terms of a rig or camera settings? I have not done a video on either, unfortunately. I've never really rigged my camera bodies and have always gone handheld (bare system) or sometimes I may put a 5" monitor on top. With my Sony, depending on a very specific monitor system, may be the first time I plan to rig it out. As far as Camera settings on the GH5, I used to film Cine-D but then went to Natural and lit my scenes for the shot instead of trying to create the look later in post. I did shoot HLG for a project once and it was quite an interesting experience on how that profile works for a Rec709 delivery. I covered it a bit in my GH5 playlist here: kzbin.info/aero/PLWbL9Hgk_9dwhKZhCqmHk7GnBT3D6XHNz

Can you elaborate more on the camera settings for open gate for green screen?... is it just going into the anamorphic menu?
@TLDR_filmmaker6 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael! Thank you so much for checking out a video and asking a question! You are correct, once you go into the anamorphic menu to shoot in 4:3 mode, you can select what resolution you'd like to use in this mode. It's going to look wonky from the usual 16:9 ratio, but luckily you can still turn on your guidelines to help you frame up what you're looking for while still having extra room incase the actors actions gets too large. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Check back every Wednesday for something new!

Hey Samuel! Thank you so much for checking out the video and for the kind words! I will continue to do my best and put out fun meaningful videos for filmmakers and aspiring filmmakers alike! I think there is definitely a lot of us holding out for the same thing, and I'm sure BMD is milking every bit of it. I pray they didn't drop the ball with some unknown problem that they didn't test and we'd have to wait for a few months for a firmware to fix it. But that being said, I discussed it in my BMPCC 4k or GH5s video, I think the BMPCC is an entry level camera into a much higher production workflow. The benefits of that camera is very clear compared to the the prosumer cameras we work with, the biggest question I had for filmmakers was if they were ready to go into that kind of production workflow along with the higher demands on storage on and off the set. Time will tell very soon for us, hopefully BMD delivers on schedule and we start seeing early adopters initial results soon! Thanks again for stopping by! Check back every Wednesday for something new! What kind of videos do you enjoy filming?
@Photographicelements6 жыл бұрын
Focus pulling is the stressful thing I have ever done on set. "The entirety of the production depends on you getting the focus right & we can't fix it in post, no pressure." (me to the DP): I think we should go with T8, use a 14mm lens and be 20 feet away from the actors #guaranteedfocus LOL. Can you use the focus point selection points with a smartphone or wireless remote? How did you do that for that scene? You had the focus menu open as you ran with the gimbal, then tapped the scene at each location to change focus? That's true indie talent right there. I really love those clips, is that from a film a film you made? Where can I watch the film?
@TLDR_filmmaker6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately Panasonic has still not responded to my request for the smartphone app be able to go between pre-set focus points. I'm honestly a bit disappointed that they have not allowed this feature to work, it makes no sense at all to not allow people to use their smartphones to remotely go between focus points. I'm going to keep bugging them because they've literally build the foundation to completely destroy their competition in terms of functionality on a film set, I'm just going to have to keep telling them until someone over there finally understand what this could mean for their company. That scene was originally suppose to be smoother with a gimbal, but the gimbal wasn't cooperating with how fast I needed to whip the movements so I ended up putting putting tabletop tripod leg on the bottom, folded it up so that it became a rod, and ran as smooth as I could while tapping the screen at each focus change moment. There was no way I could have have done that one-shot had the GH5 not had the focus transition feature. If you're in the USA, that film is coming to streaming services real soon, I will have an announcement video on my channel when it does!

OMG That is a masterfully performed shot! Nice work! I give you laurels for best indie-uity. Yes, please do keep bugging Panasonic, we need them to continue to break the system. Maybe the next time you hv a CMotion/Teredk in operation, make a quick video, "See Panasonic, this could be easy with an app..." I would love to stream this film! What I've seen so far is amazing! I mean, I'm in LA if there's a screening..

Hey hey again Mathias! Thanks again for popping in, in the comments! Thats awesome! I recently got a Mavic Pro to add to my kit, here in the states I need to get my Part 107 license for the way I need to use the drone, so I'm currently studying up on that! There was someone in the comments that offered a solution that worked for him to get to infinity. He said he unscrewed the optic completely out of the adapter and you will some glue down near the camera end of the mount. He scraped some of it off so that he was able to screw the optics in further to achieve infinity focus. I have not done anything to mine since mine works, but this could be the last resort to get the optics where it needs to be for infinity focus for some Viltrox users. Thank you so much again for all the kind words, I don't know if this channel will ever get big, but if it does, I will use it responsibly and use the platform to create even more useful content for filmmakers and aspiring filmmakers alike! Why is my VAR FRAME RATE always greyed out? I've changed every shooting format and all don't work. I also only have a maximum of 6400 ISO available to me. Brand new GH5S. Warranty? Thanks
@TLDR_filmmaker4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Martin, Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I'm not sure if the GH5S has this limitation, but to make VFR work you need to make sure you are shooting only in an 8bit format, the VFR option will not be available in 10bit or ALL-I (at least on my GH5). I didn't double check this, but you'll probably need to be shooting in either MP4 or MOV format, I have a feeling in AVCHD you may not get VFR... I could be wrong, but its something I just though of that could potentially cause you not to have VFR. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!

You're most welcome. I don't change anything with Natural, you can turn down sharpness if you want, but otherwise I like how the colors play for the films I did on the GH5. As for 4k settings, for youtube I do 4k30p (long gop) and then 4k24p for narrative film. I use to do true 24p, but stopped doing that and went to the 23.98 just because the difference did not bother me.

Awesome video. Brother please tell me Which is best Sony Alpha 7III or GH5
@TLDR_filmmaker6 жыл бұрын
Hey again Tushar, Thanks again for stopping by and commenting! Unfortunately we already talked about this subject in a previous post. In the end it truly depends on what you feel the camera will do for you in your line of work since we work in very different fields of videography, my needs will be different from yours. Were you able to find a store or a friend that will let you play with both cameras or a rental house that you can rent from for a project? If I remember correctly, it really came down to if you needed 4k 60p or not. If you don't then it really does not matter which camera to go with. If you do, then I would wait for the A7siii and see what that offers you against the GH5 or GH5s. But the honest honest answer is, it truly does not matter what camera you go with if you understand its strengths and weaknesses. To make a decent video you simply need a camera that records a digital video format to edit, lights to craft your scene, and lenses of certain focal lengths to get the desired image for your video. There is no perfect video camera, as much as I love the GH5 its not perfect by any means, its got things I wish were there or better, but in the end it doesn't matter if it has it or not because I am still able to get the desired image I want out of it. If for whatever reason I needed to use my old Canon T3i again for a project, I wouldn't complain that its an old camera because I shot some amazing things with it. I understand where the camera excels and falls so I'm able to work with it and still get a nice video. My last advice I can think of for you is that you said previously that the Viltrox Booster was too expensive to be imported to your country, so this leads me to assume that budget is a concern for your work and setup. If this is the case, figure out which camera you have the budget for, get the appropriate adapter to pair your Canon Lenses and then go film film film. The more you film with any camera, the more you understand where you can push the camera and where it will fail. Last last last thing lol A camera is only a tool, it will not make your art look any better or worse, your creative mind is what creates the art and magic that makes people forget they are watching a digital video. As much as I love to talk about the tools I use and give people my perspective of why I enjoy using it, they are still just tools and I use them to create my imagination not the other way around. Sorry this was long, but the only person that knows what camera is right for them is themselves. Another filmmaker has no idea what type of style you like to film or where your imagination takes you. All you need to do is research the camera you want, look at examples people have put up on youtube, and then ask yourself, "does this camera do what I need it to do for my work?" If the answer is yes, then that is your camera, if its no, then look at the competition and find the camera that does what you want. If both cameras do certain things but not the other, then you must ask yourself which one can you work with easier, because chances are you can cancel out the feature that it doesn't have with other tools or techniques. Ok thats definitely the end, sorry again that this is so long, but I hope this helps you gauge better where to go from here in terms of what tools will work best for your filmmaking needs. Thanks again for stopping by Tushar! I'll see you in the next one!

Snow Motion Pictures There is no best! It's which one fits your needs best. If you want the best video codec in this price category, the GH5 wins hands down with it's 400Mbps ALL-I codec. If you need a weather proof solution, again the GH5 wins by a long shot. If you need the industry best IBIS performance, the the edges out the Sony. If you plan on shooting anamorphic, again the GH5 wins in spades. If you need the best autofocus, go for the A7III. If you need the best low light, go A7III (although the GH5S is a strong contender too). If your in love with the most shallow DOF, the Sony wins big time. If you want more megapixels when shooting stills, get the A7III.

Thank you so so so much that you give me this much time once again. you are truly a perfect guide for me. now as a friend i am telling you something about me. I do cinematography, Editing, Composting and motion graphics. I am doing job as a compositor from last 6 years. Now I want to make my feature film. But for that I need a good camera. So I decided to buy a Camera. Bcoz it's really expensive here to rent a good camera. Why I am so much thinking because brother I am spending whole my savings till now from my six years service. So the money matters a lot to me. I have seen almost each and every individual video of GH5 in KZbin. And almost every video tells me that GH5 is better than Sony Alpha 7. Now the problem is GH5 is a new camera. Its just released on last year January. So in my place no body had use that camera. Most of the freelancer cinematographer had use Canon 5D and some of used Sony Alpha 7s. So they all are telling me to go for Sony Alpha camera. Now here I am getting puzzled. Because it's not possible for me to buy an another camera. Thats why i asked you again. Anyways brother thanks for your time. It's really helps me a lot.

the first very good video. I am thinking of buying a new camera just for video, I have the d800 for photography. I think for gh5s only video I like it better, I do not care about the ibis stabilization. I am hesitating in the choice of lens, I like the 12-35mm f / 2.8 for the weight, f2.8 and stabilized. The sigma and the adapter seem to me a lot of weight. there is a lot of difference ??? also thought to buy the 42.7 mm f / 1.7 or f / 1.2
@TLDR_filmmaker6 жыл бұрын
Greetings Hugo! Thank you so much for checking out the video and commenting! There is definitely a major weight different between using the Sigma 18-35 vs the Panasonic 12-35mm. However I definitely prefer the weight of the Sigma 18-35 as it helps me maneuver better for certain shots handheld, but with GH5s it may be more beneficial to have the Panasonic 12-35mm instead. Although all of this depends on what kind of films you want to film as each lens has its strengths and weakness. The best question to ask is, what type of filming environment will you be in 90% of the time? Will you mainly be doing events or movies?
@hugofalcon98026 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your answer. I mainly do events such as weddings, educational audiovisuals and videoclips. I also intend to do some film projects. My first idea was to buy the 12-35 mm f / 2.8 and later take a 17mm f /1.2 of / 1.7 (ufff the difference of € 1000 scares me) and a 42.5 f / 1.7 of / 1.2 ( again I'm afraid of jejjeje). On the other hand I have a nikon d800 for photo and video with a 35mm f / 2, 50mmf / 1.8, 85mm f/1.8 , 100mm f / 2.8 macro and 20-35mm f/2.8. I was also thinking about buying the nikon metabones for m43 but I do not know how it works with gh5s. I have clear the purchase of gh5s for only video but I do not know how to do with the lenses
@TLDR_filmmaker6 жыл бұрын
You are most welcome! The GH5s would definitely be my choice if I was doing events as well. The Panasonic 12-35 is a great choice to pair with the GH5s so that you get some image stabilization as well. While I have no tried this combination yet, if I was to have a small set up solution for events and weddings I would pair the GH5s with the Olympus 12-100 F/4. I know some people may not like the idea of F/4 for MFT cameras, but I feel its worth consideration since you will only need one lens with constant aperture and one stop really isn't too bad, id rather make sure everything stays in focus. Video Examples from audience member here of this pairing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIGQkJiHhNCXetE As for the 17mm and 42.5mm. The 17mm only has a 1.7 option. I personally would get the 42.5mm f1.7mm, instead of the f1.2 because in my mind I am getting a decent enough shot with a f1.7 and I can save that money for something else that helps me in other ways. As for the Nikon lenses being adapter to the GH5s, there are a couple speedbooster optics you can get, you want to make sure they are designed like the metabones where there is a built in IRIS wheel. There are no adapters that I know of that can communicate electronically through an adapter. All your lenses will work just fine, you will just have no Autofocus with your lenses, everything is manual. Definitely search around on youtube and see if adapting your Nikon lenses is something you want to do. Hope this helps!
@hugofalcon98026 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your words, I appreciate it. First the olumpus lens 12-100 I really do not like that focal tour ummm, I've seen examples but it does not convince me. I also do not mind changing the lens if I need it, you see that on the d800 I do that. The 17.5mm I was referring to the voigtlander (850 € approx.) There is not as much difference as in 42.5 between panasonic(f/1.7) and leica(f/1.2) or voigtlander(f/0.95!!!!!) (550 € aprox) The "problem" of nikon lenses without autofocus and change of f does not matter to me, I always work with everything in manual Thank you for your comments now I have to choose the best option, ufffff little nightmare I've been this week. @TLDR_filmmaker5 жыл бұрын
Hey hey BrokenInt! Thank you so much for checking out this video, the kind words and commenting! I'm happy that you enjoyed the video! In regards to the anamorphic statement, I could have been more clear in the quick statement that I meant for people buying GH5's that are filming in this budget tier. For sure Anamorphics are all over the place, I see lots of them being used for commercials and TV shows. I was surprised this 3rd season of Designated Survivor that, with Netflix now running the show, they've switched over to Anamorphics! I also CAAAAAANT WAIT for Vazen to release more of their purpose built MFT 1.8x anamorphic lenses! When Veydra first teased their move into anamorphics and then backed out because the market wasnt there.... I was sad, very very sad. This is also kind of what I mean't in my statement, that our budget tier of GH5 users arn't big enough for even Veydra to consider going ahead and making the lenses, especially since they were targeting a $2500/lens vs Vazen that is $3250/lens (might be different per focal length) I'm definitely want to use an anamorphic lens for a project, the examples you saw was me using the whole projector lens combo on a Canon 50mm + Sankor 16. Dual focusing is definitely a pain, which furthers people from wanting to shoot anamorphic on the GH5 system without shelling out more money, but I love the image and looking forward to exploring it more for my own projects! Sorry, long reply! Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you in the next one!

Why does the GH5 have more resolution in open gate than the GH5s? I thought the GH5s used the full MFT 4/3 sensor, with 1.8 crop factor? And also was better as processing the image due to no processing power going to stabilization? Oh wait-- you have another video on the GH5s, it's probably in that video. Stop making great videos, I have work to do!
