GH5 vs Original BMPCC | In-depth Comparison

Last video I posted was a blind test comparing the Panasonic Lumix GH5 and the Original Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. In this video however, we dive deeper and do an in-depth comparison between the two cameras. Can the BMPCC from 2013 stack up against the GH5 from 2017?
The tests were shot using CinemaDNG Raw on the BMPCC and 4K 10-bit 150Mbps on the GH5.
GH5 used a Canon FD 35mm F2 and the BMPCC a Canon FD 24mm F2, to compensate for difference in sensor size. The GH5 used V-log L with sharpness and noise-reduction turned all the way down.

Hi Cal ! I love to watch your youtube topics on bmpcc og. As you mentioned, bmpcc og has moire to subjects having periodic patterns. It always frustrates me. But, as you know, bmpcc og is not a perfect camera, so I can forgive it. Hahah~ This little one always makes me think deeply whenever I shoot film.

Just re-watching this in 4k now. I noticed some aberration on your shirt (on the white line part of your shirt) at 2:14 in the BMPCC footage, anyone notice this? Also the BMPCC footage looks softer and less sharp - a bit like if you shifted the RGB channels so they are slightly offset?

I have the BMPCC OG and really like it. But in a blind test, much of the time I'm not sure I could tell the difference, especially if not side by side. I especially doubt that the difference would be noticed by the average viewer. Both are good enough to tell a story. Inexpensive equipment has reached the point to where the camera and lens are secondary considerations compared to the other factors involved in creating a good image and telling a story well.

Amazingly good video. Again: I would pay money for a lut that gets gh5 closer to og bmpcc. Can't quite get the green tint right in my own attempts.

the giveaway was in the leaves shot. you really felt the 'digital' quality for lack of a better word (i'm newer to this stuff maybe there is a word for it) when the leaves were moving in the wind. the GH5 just looked kinda...'home video' ish... the BMPCC looked like a quality/cinematic video.

I actually preferred B.. I wonder how much of a difference the lenses made though.. i have a canon fd 24mm 2.8 and its a different look then my canon fd 28mm 2.8

In my experience the lenses should match pretty well, but I'm thinking about doing some more in-depth tests soon.

Good evening everyone! Help with the choice. I need your opinion dear. I am going to buy one of these cameras. Someone tell me what is the difference in the image, cinematic film toist between bmpcc and bmmcc? The sensor is the same, in general, what are the pros and cons in these beauties? It seems to me that the first pocket is more like a film strip, but the picture is soapy so much I saw.
