Oh man, I only own the BMMCC but seeing this video I wish I went for the 4k (yes I seem to be the only person here). Much more details, less DoF and at least in this video better colours. I already noticed that the footage coming from my BMMCC is harder to colour correct then raw material from other cams.

I picked one up about a month ago for $50 to use trail riding in the truck. For my needs, it's fantastic! I see them regularly going for $90-$125 on marketplace. *You CAN remove the front lens. Pull very hard on the lens and turn it to the left ( if you're looking the camera head-on ) It is kind of hard to do, but a few pulls and turns should do the trick. There are replacement lenses and filters available on the zon.

So that means, that shooting at ISO 800 in Highlight-heavy scenarios and at 100 or 1250 in shadow-heavy scenarios will give you the best DR? With some play in that numbers of course.

For sure, but then again they don't really compete with each other since they are so different. No auto settings at all on the Pocket for example and if you throw some water on the camera it will stop working haha. But that's to be expected since one is a mini cinema camera and one is a small actioncam.

Hello CC. I have nothing against Tintin, but why would one sink Tintin and the Picaros into Mare Noiseum ? I wonder what happened here. The Viltrox is working OK... with some focals like 24 mm et 105 mm. Personnaly I try to get the other big brand, but second hand @ $200... Even fifth gen. you find. When those show up at $700 new. Yeah totally agree, although tinker cad is extremely limiting and learning something like on-shape or fusion 360 truly isn't THAT hard. Like it's less difficult than learning video editing from scratch IMO.
@carlscinema7086

True, it's very easy to get into but the ceiling might not be very high. But I think it's a good way to get into it and dip your toes, it won't scare people away. If you get hooked you can transition to a more advanved CAD-program 👍
@samk2407
@samk2407 5 ай бұрын
@carlscinema7086 it definitely is a straightforward way to dip your toes in, and just being able to move stuff around with your mouse is great and intuitive, especially for teaching kids about it. It's just that the moment you wanna do something more complex than "one hole in a platonic solid" the time saved/time wasted ratio compared to learning the basics of fusion 360° starts to tilt the wrong direction. It's not really that I want everyone to be 'advanced' it's that I don't think basic CAD is actually beyond most people's abilities, it's just unfamiliar and a little intimidating, and it's worth the little bit of extra time when the door it opens is big.

Hell yeah. 3D printing has allowed me to create things I specifically need regardless if it's a new idea, a fix for a broken item or to replicate something else that is otherwise expensive in comparison. For example, I had a vintage lens with a mount I did not have an adapter to. Before purchasing a high quality mount I decided to 3D print one to test the lens and see if it was worth using in the first place. I ended up liking the lens enough to get the adapter made from more durable metal but my 3D printed version was very fast way and inexpensive option for testing.

If you want that "ARRI" look and flexibility in post, get a Canon 100D/EOS M/650D/700D. Those cameras support a software called Magic Lantern Crop Mood which supports 2.7MP-3.2MP (Basically 74% more pixels than 1080p and up to half the pixel count of 4K) at 14bit linear uncompressed raw just like the ARRI. The Maximum usable dynamic range is 11.2 stops in normal mode and up to 13.4 stops usable in dual iso. The RAW files are so flexible it's actually incredible and are the only i've graded today that came anywhere close to ARRIRAW for under 2000$.

One problem with what you just said @ 5:20 . The BM cameras of this era had a thing where once the image was overexposed, zebras showed up and if you tried to lower the ISO the image would still clip. You had to physically lower the amount of light reaching the sensor instead through the iso. This camera uses a dual gain sensor much like the arri alexa where two different gain levels are combined into a single image for more DR. I have a feeling that after the dual analog gai, the signal is fed into the ADC and the ISO is applied after this conversion. Meaning that the ISO is doesn't actually control the analog signal amplifier. So for best results control the exposure by manipulating the light reaching the sensor.
@carlscinema7086
@carlscinema7086 5 ай бұрын
I'm not sure how you interpreted what I said as you should use ISO to expose the image. For sure manipulate the light reaching the sensor. I actually have a video covering the relationship between ISO and dynamic range on the BMPCC4K, but the same principles apply for the Original BMPCC, just ignore the second ISO base. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o16tk5ykbamCo68
@shueibdahir
@shueibdahir 5 ай бұрын
@@carlscinema7086 i'm having a hard time expressing what I meant but i wasn't talking about the p4k or the way it shifts it's middle grey according to each iso. What i meant was that I think the og bmpcc had a single level of sensitivity. Any ISO adjustment was simply a gain or pull after the ADC/ Quantization of the analog signal. Meaning if your pixel was already fully saturated aka clipping at some points of the the image, the lowering the iso was like pulling the entire image down like with the exposure slider on lightroom on an already clipped image or pushing the image up with the exposure slider. So to get the best result with this camera you have to control the amount of light actually touching the sensor using ISO 800 as the reference point. If the exposure is nailed at ISO 800 then you have the best possible image as a starting point in post
