So far listening to Mr Ghamdi series, I almost conclude that it is the anecdotal & preposterous Extra - Quranic hadees literature which is the main sourse of confusion and deviation in Deen of Allah, unless these Hadees are completely jettisoned, reformation is inconceivable. Salute to Mr Ghamdi for these explanations.

I always feel uneasy while having the overall teachings of islam learned from our religious teachers.but, whenever, i started to study ghamdi sb for the concepts of islamic religion, i started to fell in love with my religion as it has been logically explained by him. I remember you mentioning that in the past musical instruments started as a very basic thing like someone striking a stick on something at regular intervals then I found it contradictory at 32:39 when you mentioned that bell is not a musical instrument. Yes it is used as a musical instrument and to be more precise it is categorized as a percussive instrument. It can play a specific musical note such as B flat 2nd octave and also it can be played on a specific beat such as 4/4.

Narrated by Abu 'Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari, that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying: "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful. Sahih al-Bukhari 5590

They are quite familiar with these hadith and this lecture is not concerned with analyzing the hadith from the perspective of hadith criticism. Further, their methodology is that every prohibition within “hadith literature” has to be understood in light of the Quran, meaning if the Prophet (S) prohibited something, then that prohibition has to be interpreted in light of the Quranic directives, not independent, in this case the verse of Anaam that Ghamidi discusses here. So in light of this understanding, even if one were to accept this hadith as authentic (see Note below) one can very well reconcile it, by arguing it refers to the gatherings of female slave singers that were prostitutes, where the Arab men would gather around and listen to her sing sexual enchanting songs, while getting inebriated. They would then go and find any camels they could get hold of and pay the owner whatever he demanded, which they then slaughtered. The nobles would then gamble on this meat and whoever won, they would distribute this meat in the spirit of generosity, Those that stayed away from this type of activity were considered stingy. This type of gathering was spoken about in pre-Islamic poetry often and it is in reality what verse 2:219 addresses. The connection of the art of singing to prostitution in Madinah was well known and the verses in Surah Nur “do not force your slave girls into prostitution even though they desire to remain chaste” attest to this. Abdullah ibn Ubayy built his fortune on this trade, meaning they invested much into making their slave girls more profitable, by training them in the arts of seduction. Note: But like I said, they are very familiar with this narration and mention the various criticism of it, including from scholars like ibn Hazm have criticized this hadith. There are other hadith that clearly allow the playing of music. Even scholars that reject music attempt to reconcile these narrations by arguing they refer to only a certain type of instrument is permissible, meaning they construct artificial rationale to explain these hadith away. There are countless other hadith that mention the allowance of music as well and this allowance was generally the opinion of the “people of Medina” as scholars like Imam Shawkani state in his monumental comprehensive discussion on this topic, of which his conclusion was that music can’t be declared forbidden, but it is something noble people don’t involve themselves in. In fact, scholars not from Medina, would say the opinion of the people of Medina on music is not accepted.

These issues are embedded in the minds of people that it's would be very difficult to make people understand if he doesn't keep us connected what has been said before what is being put forth.
