The fact that you've had it for five years and able to create the content you do from that vessel is a selling point for me.

I went from an NMZ, to a classic 15'6 to a LT25. I sold the LT25 and bought my buddies custom dorado 16 tunnel hull. It nearly broke my soul having to constantly upkeep it. I had all the gadgets and electronics. Hydraulic steering, bobs jackplate and remote trolling motor. 4 blade stainless prop, tmr scoops, 12in electronic trim tabs, lights everywhere.... I sold it for all the money and just went back to a classic gheenoe. Nothing better than a basic gheenoe with a mercury tiller. Easy to maintain and cheap. I will also agree that everything in a gheenoe will eventually get soaked. I've run them back n forth to anclote island and got into some bigger water with unexpected winds. All you can do is throttle down and drive right into it. They're unreal stability wise. I can easily throw a cast net from the front and not fall in. Gheenoe's draft extremely shallow but you do require a jackplate to really RUN skinny. There's definitely rigs that can get shallower but the cost effectiveness gets blown out. Tunnel hulls with low water pick up's, hydraulic jackplates, 4 blade stainless steel props, trim tabs etc. You might get 2-3in's shallower in a custom rig but you're gonna spend 5-10x as much. Beyond that you start going air cooled mud motors. Only thing beyond mud motor set up's is airboats.

I just discovered your channel. Nice drone footage! I've had a basic Gheenoe for going on 20 years and love it! Like you, I'm alone 99.9% of the time. One of my friends weighs 275 lbs and it was one hell of a struggle to get the bow to rise when I accelerated. Next time I'll make him sit in the middle. Instead of a built-in bait well, I'd rather have a dry storage compartment with a waterproof hatch cover in the middle of the boat.

So the geenue style boats- canoe have interested me for awhile I had a 14’-6” fiberglass canoe up north it was tippy as hell and with two people it was a night mare , the thing I would really like to see is if they could widen the transom and back end and make it a bit wider in the middle of the geenue’s this not only would make things more stable but would give ya needed room , as for the wet floor all the time why not make some drop in wooden grids so your stuff isn’t getting wet all the time , I’m a retired boat builder of 32 years and have been thinking about building my own small skiff or if I could find a square back splitting it and widening the back end , hummm, maybe take a trip to geenue and see what they got 👍

Hi Justin, what is the seadeck under the side rails along gunnels for? I run a 15’4” HS up north exploring small water. Also, do you usually drop the stick it anchor pin in the trolling motor mount hole? Boat is great, I run with a 6 HP and would like a 9.9 like yours. My main wish more than anything would be a flat floor between center bench and forward bench, I am looking for a wayto do that using a non-wood plank. Any suggestions? Starboard may flex too much. Thanks for the video!
@markmcconnell23433 ай бұрын
Use thicker Star Board (3/4") . Bottom attach 3/4" ribs, on edge. It'll stay still and lift out instantly. Build it 20mins.

Looks a bit doggy with the heavy 9.9 4 stroke. A 25hp 2 stroke would really wake it up, and only weighs a few lbs more, or even better would be the 20hp nissan/tohatsu much lighter with a batteryless EFI system.

Yamaha is fine if you are new to boating and don't know any better. The best 10HP 4-stroke outboard for this boat is the Mercury 9.9 carbureted manual (lighter) or electric (heavier) start. The speeds/economy/reliability/resale/etc., in the 10HP class is dead even across the board. Its all about that twist to shift tiller. That makes the Mercury stand head and shoulders above the rest for this particular boat. Manual vs electric is more of a personal choice, but if you are going to have a battery and wiring for a TM, lighting, FF, pump, etc., you mind as well go electric and reap the benefits and convenience of an electric start/alternator outboard. The second best is the Tohatsu 9.8 carbureted because of the weight and cost savings, but having no twist to shift tiller is huge disadvantage. As for fishing...this is not a fishing boat. Get that out of your head. I have fished my Highsider on occasion. It is not fair to the fish, lol. Super quiet and stealthy, virtually no hull slap, practically no displacement waves. Fish cannot see, hear, or feel you, and that is an unbelievable advantage without question. You can catch fish with it, but at the end of the day this is not a fishing boat. Certainly it is not a two person fishing boat. That is a fantasy.

Cons for me: price, expensive for how littler there is. Build, it lasts but feels thin, the floor bounces when driving. I can't stand it. Size, def small and tricky to stabilize, very specific conditions needed to fish it. Storage, like you showed, basically have to pack out what you need and hope your rods don't fall out lol.
