Too many Japanese tourists think Singapore = Marina Bay Sands and Orchard. Clean and rich. So in this video, I took an LRT from a residential area called "Sengkang" to show how the locals really live like.

I don't know why KZbin recommended this video, but as a singaporean, I find it really interesting to see foreigners filling Sg from an outsider's perspective and especially showing the world our local neighbourhoods that are not as flashy as how our tourism board presents our country usually. I can see you were delighted to talk to that ‘uncle’ in the coffee shop who spoke some Japanese terms, will surely go over and talk to you if I see you on the street. We Singaporean find the Japanese very friendly but they are very afraid to talk to the locals. There are Japanese family staying in our condominium but they mostly keep to themselves. I befriended a Japanese housewife who stay in my condo and we occasionally chatted as we both walked our dog at night , but she has a son who is about 12 that ran away whenever he sees me, I was puzzled ! Not sure if I had spoken to him in English a couple of times and that stressed him out!? 😂 Anyway hope you guys talk to us more often in order to know more local stuff. Cheers

Clean, efficient, great food (everything I've tried there is great), love the shopping there and lots more. I guess in some ways we as Singaporeans do take our country for granted.

Yes! Our Tampines Hub is really quite an interesting place. There is an awesome 6 storey library, a hawker centre, an open stage that regularly screen movies for free, and many other facilities for the community. Right behind the hub is a park with a fruit themed playground. I like to walk on the main pathways that leads all the way to the Tampines St 81 neighbourhood markets, which is another sight to behold in itself.

Hi Ghib Ojisan, I’m a Singaporean married to a Japanese. I feel nostalgia watching your video, even a local like me has never visited Ranggun before but you explained in detail many aspects of Singapore in a right way. It’s very difficult for me to convince my husband because he always says “シンガポールの物価が高いので、住める場所ではないですね。” and totally doesn’t understand it. It’s very frustrating for me. Would appreciate if you could do more videos to change the mindset of Japanese people. Thanks!

@namso349
@namso349 4 жыл бұрын
Actually "selipar jepun" or japanese slipper has its history during the japanese occupation of Singapore and Malaya. If the brutal japanese army did not like a person or he made a mistake, then get ready to be slapped on the face with the slipper! So imagine the pain and maybe scar the victim has to bear. Hence the phrase "selipar jepun" is a legacy of the japanese occupation.

Such a chill video, it's so refreshing to see this style in youtube nowadays. Loved seeing the local side of Singapore through a foreigner's perspective. Although the grab food/delivery info is a little off though, it's doesn't cost about 100 yen, probably around 400 yen, which is a bit expensive considering you can get more than a decent meal at the hawker/coffee shop so most people still don't use food delivery unless it's raining or its like a lazy day in. However, yeah more Singaporeans are getting overweight cos we eat out a lot and we don't get enough exercise (office worker jobs), thus the government is trying to give us incentives to walk at least 10000 steps a day or giving us money to use to go to gyms etc under the activesg programme

Totally enjoyed your videos, Ghib Ojisan. Never would have imagined a Japanese gaijin walking around and vlogging about Sengkang where I live (and you were really quite near my block!). Many still say Sengkang is ulu but I beg to differ. Hdb living is really convenient in Singapore. It is interesting for a Singaporean to see our own country from a foreigner’s perspective. Common sights like FWs taking a nap at void decks, coffeeshop underneath a carpark actually adds to our Singapore-ness. Since you’ve been to Sengkang, why not go to Punggol as well? It’s nice to cycle along the waterway and enjoy sea breeze at punggol point. Hope to bump into you someday on the street! 応援しています📣!

I've always wanted to explore Japan. It's nice to see foreigner's perspective on our little island. Not just the touristy spots but common parts in Singapore. While Singapore is rich, most of us Singaporeans are normal class. Only a small percentage is considered filthy rich.

Gained a fan here! Thanks for showcasing Singapore in this light! You have been very respectful and genuine, and pointed factual or interesting views that locals may not even realize it! Would love to see more of your content! Keep them coming!
