Tengri to Allah - Where Tengrism and Islam meet

Welcome to my first informational video. In this video I will be exploring the religion of Tengrism and will be seen if whether the similarities between Tengrism and Islam potentially played a role into Tengrist converting to Islam. We will be looking into Central Asia between 600 - 751 AD before the Battle of Talas as after that battle Islam grew to become the dominant religion of the region.

I thought your video was very informative, I too have researched the birth if Islam in Central Asia. As a Turk and born Muslim I do see differences in our practice of Islam to the mainstream. Turks still hold on to their customs and traditions of the past eg: No shoes worn inside, kissing of the hand of elders and throwing water after someone who is leaving just to name a few. Whatever similarities there are, Tengrism is not even a bit like Islam. You can find similarities between all Religions in the World. We shouldn´t forget that Religions were made on purpouse. either because people needed answers, rules or to take the fear away from dying. Pretty good video. Really enjoyed the presentation. Though as you mentioned, the battle of Talas opened the flood-gates for the conversion of Central Asian Turks to Islam, Tengriism did remain a strong religious force in the region for centuries afterwards, especially in the northern and eastern reaches, so what you covered in this video may have left just enough wiggle-room for you to make a part two, even if the forces of conversion in those latter centuries remained similar to the ones in the period talked about in this video.

It was a video prepared entirely with hearsay information.(I say this as a Tengrist Turk from Turkey) If our religions were similar, what if the Arabs were Tengrist? In fact, Islam was influential in the Turks in the post-Mongol Empire period due to political reasons. As evidence, there are traces of Tengrism in the Ottoman Principality. (In 14th Century)

Additionally, I did not have a chance to contact practicing Tengrist as I had no idea how to find one in the first place. I utilised what I could to make this video. You should have included something about Qormusta Tengri. Qormusta is derived the the Zoroastrian supreme God Ahura Mazda and is now worshipped in central asia and Mongolia. The word "Khuda" is also Persian and is now used by Muslims from Iran to India as well as Turkic peoples in central Asia. Christian's in those areas commonly use Tengri and Khuda and have it in their Bible translations too.

From a drakhad Tengrist: minor correction. The other Tengr are closer to angels in rank. They're not worshipped separately with Tengri, but always after him. In the same ceremony One would beseech Tengri first, and then the other gods and spirits. These other gods are smaller though, and are seen as eminations of Tengri, similar to how the Hindus have eminations of their gods. These other gods are their own being, yes, but contain Tengri. It's closer to the Zorastrian idea of godhood, with ahura Mazda and the verious "worthy of worship powers", than true polytheism or monotheism.

soo let me clarify something in tengrism, shamans call up on the ancestors from 1 layer up in the heavens (tengri) and 9 generations of the ancestors are up there waiting for the 10th generation to come up to let 1st generation to ascent to 2nd layer of tengri, it is very hard to find shaman that has connection to 2nd layer and up, the language they speak is very old antique that you can barely understand, further the shaman let's the spirit of that ancestor to come, it becomes harder to understand the language spirits talking, also there is another way for shaman to gain power through spirits of the Mountains and seas/rivers, but it's frowned upon by ancestor worshipers, but if they attain 108 mountain and spirit no other shaman from 1st layer will can defeat him or be wiser, after 13th century there is a branch of tengrism that have acknowledged the god teacher (buddah), in the end shamans purpose is to ascend higher to heavens to become one with tengri and help mortals to fight off harshnes of mortal life

assalamu aleykum, I think the style of the video is well done. I didnt watch it much becouse I wanted to say a few things about the islamic concept of heaven an hell. the gates of heaven are 8 which you said correctly, but heaven itself has way more layers. It is not certain how many layers there are in heaven, but some of the scholors say that it could have as much layers as there are verses in the holy quran. The Gates of heaven are just the Gates to enter Heaven and not the Layer in which you will reside. in some narations of the prophet mohammad said that some peaple will be called to heaven through multiple gates and some through all of them. The concept of hell is also similar. hell has 7 gates but it does not mean that it has 7 layers. it has a undefined number of layers as far as i know. I would advise you to be more thorough in your research but all in all i like the format that you presend your information

the difference is once you leave tengrism you can never convert back to tengrism, the spiritual leaders are shamans and shaman is born in to the family who can call upon the ancestors spirts to their body also the ancestors choose who will be the shaman so once you convert to islam there is no way there will be shaman born in to that family ever again also the will of tengri will be spoken through shamans mouth so that's why tengrism is not wide spread and can easily broken

I completely agree and understand your very wise point, though it is very sad to me in seeing the history of how God being a mysterious Unknowable Spirit , to being a god that speaks human words and tells us in words how to behave. One of the pragmatic reasons for forcefully converting the people of Bukhara Muslim , was an economic one as is the reason for most Wars. Unlike Tengrism All religions based on human words are based convincing and manipulating and judging, as the human word is for, and what war is used for. Arabs are not the only ones who manipulated others by using islam as an excuse, the turk ottomans also converted to islam as they claim but the main goal was to exploit the arab world, they stayed for similar period ruling arabs to the abbasids ruling turks, until arabs revolt and massacre them, the arabs afterall were known as desert nomads who can survive the harshest climates this planet has to offer, look at the historical K/D ratios from early battles in islam.
