I was a sailor for many years so I want to give you some ship terms. A wall is a bulkhead, the floor is the deck. The ceiling is the overhead, the hall way is the passageway, stairs are ladders, poles are stanchions. The crew sleeping room is the berthing area/ rooms are generally called compartments. Doors are in bulkheads and hatches are in the deck, scuttles are the small round hatches in the bigger deck hatches. The kitchen is the galley, dining room is the mess deck. The bow is the forward end of the ship and the rear of the ship is aft and called the stern. Officers live in staterooms and the wardroom. On a carrier there is the flight deck where the planes take off, below that is the hanger deck. The bridge is on the "island" that sticks up from the flight deck. That is where the ship is steered from. Port side is the left side and starboard side is the right side. If you remember these terms you wont sound like a land lubber as much.
@hellosweetheart33503 жыл бұрын
Awesome! That info just made you sound like the badass you are! Why is the berthing room called something that resembles women having babies?
@les34493 жыл бұрын
@@hellosweetheart3350 thank you! Berthing originally, and still does, mean where a ship is designated to tie up to a pier or dock. In the 1700s the word took on extra meaning as to where the crew sleeps on the ship. I suspect it has no real connection to women giving birth. BUT, "son of a gun" refers to sailors wives and girlfriends sleeping with them while the ship was in port. The crew's hammocks were over their gun stations on some ships and a baby conceived there would earn that title.

The entire time I was there I felt like someone was right behind me, but when I would turn around to look, there was no one there. My parents don't believe in supernatural stuff so they didn't pay attention, but my younger brother and I continuously felt like people were following us accompanied by static-y feelings and whispers/bangs.

Ships make noises, even when they're dead, tied up in mothballs, etc. And a ship at sea makes thousands of strange noises that you can never identify. And when you're all alone outside the hull, on a moonless night far out at sea, you literally can not see your hand in front of your face. Your mind plays tricks as it is starved for input to tell it which way is up. And then those sounds become whatever it is that you're most afraid of. So I say, find me a ship, especially those museum ships that survived WW II, that doesn't have ghost stories in it's history.

We walked all over the ship all night long and got completely lost. It is still one of the funnest things I’d ever done. And without the thought of ghosts, it was haunting. We I didn’t even set out to hunt for ghosts, and heard things we can not explain. We walked through areas not even knowing where we were, in complete darkness, with low powered flashlights. The size of the ship was mind boggling. One of the creepiest sections , we walked through a door out onto a catwalk hanging out over the water far below , it almost felt like you were falling, we walked up onto the flight deck and standing in the dark looking up at the tower, on that massive deck, just gives you chills.

In about 1985 at about 8:00 PM, we saw at about 10:30degrees - South, in front of us a very huge Craft going NNEast. We got off and one of the four of us stopped to run back into the house to escape the craziness in what we observed. We looked at it for about 5-8 minutes (the time it took to clear the sky), in rigid fear, not knowing what it was. We heard a droning sound and all went back in to phone the local radio station. This was in a shocking experience. The Radio Station acknowledged our Call and said, 100s calls were made to the radio station confirming our Call. In the morning it was reported that a meteor shower had fallen which was mistaken for a huge UFO. In the middle beaming down was a huge searchlight beaming down to earth. I estimate it to be about 50 miles long and 15 miles wide... Since then, we've randomly have observed others.

They men said they were having one hell of an "Acy-Ducy game and asked the destroyer about to torpedo them to try to hit where they were at. There isn't a ship in our Navy which sustained war casualties that isn't haunted, or visited by spirits. Such deaths are too tragic and sudden to result in their victims all simply going happily on their way. My father flew Hellcats from the carrier USS Cabot during World War II. He said ghosts of fallen shipmates were a constant and common experience, especially shortly after their deaths. One morning late in the war, twenty-some sailors and Marines perished nearly instantly when a kamikaze slammed into a forward twin 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun tub they were manning or near. Upon which, encounters with spirits aboard ship increased three-fold. After fifteen years sitting empty and silent, Cabot was leased to the Spanish Navy (Armada) in 1967. She was renamed Dédalo and began service anew as a jump-jet and helicopter carrier for that nation. Spanish air crews and sailors reported spirits of American World War II personnel present aboard their ship immediately upon her refit and launching. I'm with the Yorktown's guide, these souls are not to be feared, they should be honored, attended to and recognized for their tremendous sacrifice and love of their countrymen and women. I feel no U.S. warship that saw battle deaths should ever be scrapped or dismantled again. Park them somewhere safe or sink them where they may rest undisturbed but the practice of destroying or dismantling them amounts to the desecration of a sacred site in my estimate. Just the humble opinion of one grateful American.

@@robertyoung3992 My dad went to high school in Waterloo/Cedar Falls with a couple of the Sullivan brothers. The civic arena there is named for them now. I got a peek at the newest 'USS The Sullivans' when it was at NS Mayport a few years back when I went out there for Easter mass. What a sharp looking vessel she is.

Okay! I was super confused when they kept saying yorktown. I thought they meant the old Yorktown that sunk off at the battle of Midway. Turns out that USS Yorktown (CV-5) is still 3,000ft. below sea level and this one is USS Yorktown (CV-10)
@robertyoung39923 жыл бұрын

I was on use Iowa and I asked the guy who worked on the ship who's been there forever. He was so cute bc he knew everything and was excited to share so much with us. I asked him about ghosts and he said he hasn't seen nor experienced but told us about one person's experience. He prob said that bc I was a female with my kid niece lol

The ship, this carrier, is very old. There are many tons on many different points, which holds together and makes stable. This weight causes these noises. And I could bet - even in a completely new ship that weighs more than 500 tons, it makes such noises.

Looking at the left laser grid lights, I can see a person with a fire suit on. You can see his helmet cover and slotted visor. He may have been killed doing damage control. The blackness of the suit could be chard after he died in the fire. Maybe do some research on who on the fire team died in a fire.

Maybe just maybe ppl should just stop arsing around on the Yorktown. Maybe (if there are any) the ghosts are dead crew and we should respect them by stopping this nonsense on the Yorktown

All three ships here in Buffalo, The USS The Sullivans (DD-537) USS Little Rock (CL-4) and the USS Croaker (SS-246) are haunted
@sirxavior15832 жыл бұрын
I whouldn't say the ship is haunted per say, it appears to be more of a residual energy. Residual energy is energy left over from a past event that replays itself over and over again. It's the energy of the servicemen that devoted there duty to the ship, even some of the living servicemen that served on that ship have returned for a vist. Since it's residual energy it's not malevolent though you'll have the feeling of servicemen that continue to be devoted to the ship even in the afterlife.

1. The first two photo's are from different points as shown by the arrow on the floor. Why not show them from the same distance? Why zoom in? They wanted to imagine the 'shape' of a person. 2. The 'leg'. Why would a ghost want to walk through the wall when he wouldn't be able to go there when he was alive? 3. They heard footsteps. They are noises, could be coming from anywhere. How can he say for sure there is nobody else on board. Once again 'evidence' of ghosts with nothing definite.

Wow this is crazy. I went aboard back in 2008, it was one of the coolest things I've ever explored with all the tight-fit areas. My brother and I jumped a roped-off area and wandered down an escalator to the bottom cause it was dark and spooky looking. Really just 2 young, immature hooligans acting up trying to sneak away from authority. I had no idea it was "haunted" Ignorance is bliss
