The slave torture device is a metaphor for the movie itself, because Sherman financed the movie so heavily he was trapped inside of it while it repeatedly screwed and emasculated him. And him being killed by ghosts who engineer a fatal car explosion is a metaphor for the movie bombing horribly and destroying Sherman financially.

That ending, marvelous. It just brought the biggest smile to my face seeing that in a supposed comedy. And right after that boxing shit-show, too. It totally makes sense that this was an adult comedy at some point. Just considering the year this was made in, there was probably a lot of nudity from those two blonds in the original cut and a lot more dirty jokes. And then someone had the bright idea to make this a family film.

Yes, it is incredibly dumb, but between the singing heads, the sweet music box song, the incredibly relatable overcoming the fear of spiders scene, the bumbling servants, and Terrance Stamp having a gay old time overacting the shit out of his character, I just don't see why it gets such a bad rap. Plus, it's quite beautiful at times in the lighting and colour themes, and it's a lot of fun imagining every Eddie Murphy scene is actually Donkey from Shrek in another life.
