This is the "Dance Macabre" of Impera. Absolute 80's influences from VH (the beginning sounds like "Ain't Talking Bout Love") to Def Leppard type harmonies. But...it's all Ghost. Masterful of taking influences and making it their own. By FAR, my favourite song on this album. Very, very catchy hook and chorus. Love the interlude. This song just kills on so many levels. I dig the whole album, but this is masterful. I love the differences in each song on the album and this is the poppiest, uplifting song on there. Well done, sirs. Well done!

Spillways debuted live in Manchester on the first stop of the Euro leg of the Imperator. No sign of Griftwood yet, but hopefully they'll add it to the setlist before they come back to the US in fall. They're two of my favorites as well.

So far my favorite track on the album. Tobias has said it's a song about Mike Pence, and you can definitely hear it, even without seeing the album art. Knowing that makes the "Holy Mother" part so much more creepy. And the key change at the end has Alice Cooper's "Poison" written all over it.
@Borringtrolling
@Borringtrolling 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking it had a Van Halen influence with the key changes of the main riff but I did think of the song poison song when I first heard it but more about the tone. The holy mother part is real ABBA vibes.

Say what you will about the Trump presidency, and how history books will have a whole chapter devoted to it, gotta give thanks that the fascist Trump-tards turned on Pence before the insurrection, as he was scared of them along with the Democratic politicians. He was forced to not do anything radical in favor of tRump as the followers wanted him dead too. That was a happy accident. Fuck fascists though.

Fun song. It's easy to play "spot the influences" here (VH/Def Leppard), but getting past that, it sounds great and has a richness and depth (and dark sarcastic lyrics) that go beyond the bands that inspired it.

Well, I am not the ONLY one that thinks of Van Halen when I hear the first handful of guitar notes. From the very first time I had heard those notes, it was INSTANT for me. But, of course the song goes on to be an original song, and it just leaves us all thinking of Eddie Van Halen, but, not that this song is like any Van Halen song, and MAYBE that is what Tobias and the Ghouls wanted to have us think about? BUT, IF that is a planned thing they did, it would be clever as can be. But, yet again, who knows? It's a good song, it makes me get a very "80's vibe". And, I say that as a person who "was there" back in the 80's.

I have a bit of a problem with Hunters moon being on this album since it just doesn't seem to fit now. I love the song but have loved it since September 30th of 2021 when I first heard it. To me, Spillways and Griftwood are the two best tracks on Impera. Griftwood is very Van Halen-esque with the production and harmonies of Def Leppard. Add in the Scorpions style guitar solo and you've got a winning track. Just incredible that it's the mine of one person that has come up with this. Incredible band.
