@@theodoreritola7641 Yeah, I love the 60's Frankie/4 Seasons... but their 70's stuff is where it's at as far as I'm concerned. Those are all great bubble-gum pop songs and they have their place, but there's no soul in them like there is in the 70's stuff.
@bradparnell6143 ай бұрын
You still haven't done any classic 4 seasons. This is from 1975. You haven't heard anything yet in terms of Frankie's falsetto. You have to listen to the 1960s stuff back before the Beatles. In fact they were one of the biggest acts in the country by the time the Beatles hit our shores. You've really got to check out "Sherry", "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Walk Like A Man", "Candy Girl", "Dawn", and "Rag Doll". The falsettos in those songs set the bar for all the falsettos in pop music that came after including the Bee Gees.

They will just assume that all Fours Seasons sound like this Disco version of them from the 70s and then be disappointed with how they sounded when they first came out. Jay and Amber, Who Loves You was a huge 1975 comeback hit for The Four Seasons, not long after Frankie Valli staged a comeback of his own with My Eyes Adored You. The Four Seasons followed it up with their last number one hit December 1963 (Oh What A Night). My favorite from the comeback album was Silver Star, which is a far cry from their early 60s hits. Frankie Valli would have one more #1 hit in 1978: Grease, written by Barry Gibb, from the smash hit film. All are worth a listen.

Interesting fact: Don Ciccone (co-lead and backing vocals, electric rhythm guitar) was the original lead vocal on the song when the demo was cut and pitched to Warner Bros. Valli was in Europe and was unavailable, so they had Ciccone sing the lead vocals. Warner Bros. loved it and declared Ciccone to be the new lead singer and released the album. Valli wasn't having it and pushed back and stopped the release and then re-recorded the lead vocals that you just heard. You can find the demo with Ciccone on lead vocals on YT.

I was a kid (in the 70s, you are right Amber 😄), so I didn't recognise the title, but as soon as it started playing, I KNEW the song - & I remembered loving it - (maybe because I wasn't much older than a baby at the time, & a girl baby at that.) It was always a lovely, comforting song. Because of my age when this was out, I didn't actually realise that it was Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. Even back then I knew Frankie Valli's voice as it was so distinctive. It just wasn't the focus in this song as it was in so many of the others. Here his part is just a part in a larger whole that has a lot of singers & a much stronger instrumental focus. I am going to be adding it to one of my playlists as soon as I finish here. THANK-YOU for this reminder of a piece of my childhood comfort.

I will never forget the first time hearing this song, late summer of 75 near the American River in the Sacramento outskirts with my two buddies and 3 sisters we met a few weeks earlier Labor Day weekend at Calaveras Big Trees National Park. We were all between 15 and 19 and partying that night with a little booze and some good weed, The sisters snuck out around midnight hoped in my 66 Stang and we partied together until 6 in the morning when we brought them back home in Carmichael. This song came on when cranking my stereo in my 66 Mustang in the wee hours of the morning listening to FM in California and I will never forget that song and that night. This is such a cool song, Every time I hear it it brings back the memories of myself, Jeff, Brent and the girls, Debbie, Linda and Teresa and that wonderful night of the mid 70s.

Bell bottoms, leisure suits, CB radios and the birth of disco. I was a mere freshman. My parents had just split up. Music saved my sanity, and quite possibly, my life.
