What is Sakuga?
Sakuga (作画) literally means drawing in Japanese. But Sakuga also means "artistically impressive animation".
What is a Sakuga MAD?
MAD stands for Music Anime Douga (Douga means video in Japanese). It's the same as an AMV. Sakuga MADs are compilations of great animation.

Not sure what my next one will be. I have a lot of ideas (around 70 folders of clips for possible videos) but I wait until I have a song I want to edit to and know how I want to make it until I start. I really want to make more about Western animators and another one for internet animation though. I've almost finished a John Pomeroy Reel. I've also just finished my uni semester so should be able to make MADs that would need more research than most like the internet animators one. I'm also planning on doing a big article on my blog about the definition of good animation so might focus on that instead of making videos for a while.

攻殻はアニメの中で一番好きだな(アニメ、劇場版を含む)。劇場版の少佐の降下シーンはアニメにも入っているということは原作のリスペクトではないかと思う。多脚戦車の戦闘シーンもかっこいいし、義体化したと言えど無機物の限界で腕が千切れたりするのも無敵ではないということを表しているのかもしれない。

自分の力で手足が破壊されるというサイボーグならではの描写と素子の焦りの表現だったと思う。バトーが人形遣いの件で少佐がおかしくなってるという報告をしてるのも伏線だと思うけど戦闘に特化した百戦錬磨の素子がああも我を忘れて無謀な作戦に出たのは少々疑問は残る。電脳ハックして開けさせる等の裏技も使えなかったのか。原作では戦車のマニュピレーターに頭を潰されそうになって痛そうな顔をしていた記憶があるが押井版は無表情なままなのもサイボーグっぽくて良いと思ってる。無表情というよりはシリーズ通して「人形」という描き方をしていて、魂のないオペレーターと魂有りの素子、ほぼ生身のトグサとの描き分けも凄い作画だと思う。

Like it says in the description this is from a music video for the song "Je t'aime", it's by a band called Glay. The short film/music video was directed by Mamoru Oshii. It's kind of Ghost in the Shell adjacent because I don't know if it's been confirmed that they take place in the same universe. But the art design, the doll like robot and the dog who looks identical to Batou's dog in GiTS2 kind of imply it's connected to the series. Oshii just likes basset hounds and robots though so it could just be a coincidence. But some people, including me, think of it as a short film in the GiTS universe. And no, I don't mean "I miss when anime were* in their prime" cus that wasn't the prime time of animes. Anime was still a niche category of entertainment at that time. All that Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the shell have in common is class and how good they are. I miss the times when animes had class. Today's animes are nothing but cringe "Power of friendship", trash storylines, all females magically in love with the protagonist, etc. Doesn't matter the main genre of today's animes, writers will find a way to insert romance and try to be edge, which just turns out to be cringey.

Sakuga (作画) literally means drawing in Japanese. But Sakuga also means "artistically impressive animation". MAD stands for Music Anime Douga (Douga means video in Japanese). It's the same as an AMV.
