People are talking about Ghost. They just won the American Music Award for best metal album and was Grammy nominated both in USA and Sweden. They lost to Ozzy in the USA but won in Sweden. Impera broke sales records all over the world and was number two on Billboard on album sales with sales numbers no rock/metal Band has been near since the beginning of the 90:s. They're playing right now in Europe for sold out arenas and are getting back to both USA and South America playing stadiums which almost no other European band manages. In South America they have to change venue cause it sold out in days. Now they're playing the biggest arena they got in Mexico and Chile. The Australian part is also sold out. They also just released a new album called Phantomime with five covers. That's the most sold album in Sweden right now. Check out Phantom of the opera and Jesus he loves me and you will find out why.

Jag har skivan och tyckte att 'See No Evil' var väl sådär. Men den har sakta men säkert vunnit mark. Den är ju skitbra!! Även 'Hanging Around' har jag lyssnat mer på.

Fun fact: Tobias actually played all of the Ghouls in this video so he's playing all of those instruments too. Dude is insanely talented.

Tobias Forge, the singer and mastermind of Ghost, is very clear that he have all these influences from the 70's and the 80's. Alice Cooper is probably one of them and Abba is a another. That's why Ghost is so good. floating between genres that defines the typical Ghost sound. You will discover that no Ghost song is the other like. A lot of different sounds but all of them are good as hell!

I hear you man! I didn’t start listening to Ghost until two years ago. Idk how I could’ve missed all this. Needless to say, today I’m a true super fan of Ghost. Well it’s more like an obsession.

Majesty and Watcher in the Sky are firmly planted in the late 70's early 80's. Great Stuff.

Great reaction! I had the same feeling when I discovered Ghost in 2019. Good news is that Ghost is getting recognized for how good they are - they keep growing in their popularity, and are headlining arenas and festivals now. One thing about Ghost - they have an amazingly high bar for quality - everything they do is done to the highest standard - songwriting, recording, performing, merch/socials.

I think one reason can be that when you never heard them but seen articles about their imagery and that is supposed to be death metal, mening growling, it can turn you away. And the court case, that sounded complex. So I guess I knew about them about 6 years before I listened to them, and had to buy three albums a week later.

So, this isn't quite answering your "Why aren't people talking about Ghost more?" question, but it is tangentially related. There is this dislike and dismissal of Ghost from more than one corner happening right now. There's a genre purist/gatekeeping element of metal fans who argue with anyone (whether they're listening or not) that Ghost *isn't* and *can't ever be* metal because of one reason or another. This prioritizes a strict adherence to genre definitions which seems counterproductive at best for just... y'know. Listening to and enjoying the music. (I've never understood why people are obsessed with policing music that's transgressive and about breaking rules and flying in the face of tradition or conventional wisdom or popular culture or success. Seems weird.) There are other people who dismiss Ghost's darker/heavier songs (often from earlier albums) because they are making songs like this or "Dance Macabre" or "Spillways," and those people essentially think Ghost is selling out or something and making Bon Jovi-style rock music but are calling themselves metal. (And it makes me wonder how many people's entry point to rock, which may have eventually led them to heavy rock and metal, may have been something like Bon Jovi at one point.) There's also this attitude coming from older Ghost fans because the band achieved a sudden, out-of-nowhere popularity last year through TikTok and Ghost's song "Mary on a Cross" being a viral sound that was *everywhere* for seemingly no reason at all. And these older fans are annoyed because the sudden spike in popularity seems to infringe upon their ability to enjoy the band and live shows. I think the thing that is most important to know is that the man behind Ghost, Tobias Forge, is pretty transparent about his inspirations and what he grew up listening to and how it affects how he writes music. But the other crucial thing to know is that he doesn't like repeating himself, or doing the same thing over and over again. He'll draw inspiration to do something new on every album. And if you listen to Ghost's music from the beginning... yes, it evolves and changes. Just like we do, as people. And if it happens to be catchier and more people are listening to it? It's not a crime. I think it's wonderful that more people are learning about the band. I love sharing things I love with new people - isn't that how things are supposed to be? Anyways, sorry for the novel, lmao. Thanks for the reaction.
