James Franciscus was gorgeous, I liked him in the Planet of the Apes sequel. He went on to produce and direct too. Died too young at 57. This show is such quality, fantastic actors and chilling stories. Even better than Night Gallery which was great too. 70's really brought out the suspense!

This was very entertaining, I do love the Ghost Story series, done in the 70's but way better than a lot of today's limp attempts at spooky thrillers. Well, I must say, what an extremely attractive man the male lead was too !!!!

James Franciscus and Elizabeth Ashley also appeared together in the 1972 made-for-TV movie One of My Wives is Missing with Jack Klugman. They had great chemistry and looked physically appealing together. And both were all over television in the 70s.

Cynthia Lyman I just saw her in something recent & was surprised she was still alive. Sounds terrible, I know. Can't remember what it was, her hair was all white. Anyway, always liked her. Johnny Carson always had her on. She was married to two of the 70's best. James Farentino, also married to Michelle Lee & George Peppard.

Back in the day when we had cool playground equipment. Not the wimpy stuff they put out now. No fun at all. We had the excitement of death defying stuff and we all lived thru it. lol When they took down our huge metal slide (the rocket ship) at Bellevue Park (which was probably 20 or 30 feet at it's highest) it was a very sad day for me. You should see the crap they replaced it with! UGH!! I feel so bad for kids these days. It amazes me how lame everything is now. So protected. I would rather have been a kid in the 70's like I was than the crap nowadays. Seat belts, car seats, no riding in the back of the truck, bike helmets!! Give me a break!! I love my computer, cell phone etc. but I would trade it all to go back to the time of the 70's. Nothing has ever compared. Thanks so much for posting!!

As for bike helmets for kids. Some years ago a Swedish researcher said that yes bike helmets protect kids but, they also teach them that falling with your bike is safe and doesn't hurt. And that way kids learn to be careless because they are not hurt even by small accidents and one day this carelessness will lead to a more severe accident when they are not wearing a helmet and they will get very badly hurt.

He died in ‘91 due to smoking - emphysema. He was only 57. Coincidently, in this movie, the garage guy tells the main character, “Nothing’s wrong with it if you don’t mind owning a garage and a boarding house at age 57.” I’m sure that seemed way off to James but that was his ending age, only ~20 more yrs. it would have been even crazier if he died in the year “Emily” was supposed to die...they were one year off. I was thought Meg looked reptilian bc of her eyes.

Kathy I may be wrong but I think she was a heavy smoker and also sun bather. She is only 73 but I saw her in a movie a few years ago called Jeepers Creepers 3 and she looked like 80s! Skin so loose and raspier voice than normal. I doubt it was makeup to make her look older just wearing out after many years of abuse to her body. Again I could be wrong but know many people like her and same thing happens.

The reality is, most people, the general TV public, are not into clever, imaginative, psychologically disturbing, scary stories like these. Now or back then. They have Black Mirror now, which has the same quality and intent. But I think that also has a small following. These kinds of shows, the intent is for you to look inside your black mirror. Most people go into denial if faced with looking at themselves.

Good episode. I like the ambiguous ending. At first I thought Bo Svenson was playing the young woman's fiance. This series offered intruiging, subtle scares, and the show had considerable class overall. But this was just before "The Exorcist" opened up a grotesque Pandora's box of crude and visceral disgusting imagery which immediately became expected staple elements in the horror genre. If I had the money and the wherewithal necessary, I'd produce a good, classy, and YES, old-fashioned horror series, and I'd try to pitch it to whoever would run it on their channel or wherever.

I’m reading comments about the little girl’s dress being short. Yeah, that was the fashion. I was a little girl in the 60’s and wore short dresses with ruffled panties. There was nothing sexual about it. Girls were LITTLE! Now pageants with makeup and teased hair and provocative clothing is over the top. But not what we’re talking about here. If some sick POS is looking at your child in a sexual way, a long dress is not going to make a difference. I’m not trying to start anything with anybody. Just my opinion.
@LisaHerman1963
@LisaHerman1963 3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. I was born in 1963. I think what is sick is those pageants. It's disgusting. It's like parents putting their kid out there for pedos to look at. Dressing them like adult hookers. It is so sick and twisted. Jon Benet would still be alive today had it not been for those pageants. Kids were kids back in the 60's. I wasn't allowed to wear make up until I was a teenager and even then I didn't look like a prostitute. Just a little blush and eye shadow. Anyone who puts their kid in a pageant at such a young age should be ashamed of themselves. To me, it is a form of child abuse.

I was in love with the prettiest girl in my high school and she looked like his daughter does in this show...the girl I loved was Lisette Armbruster and she was born in 1967 and died of melanoma on August 4th 1992. The girl in this show was born in 1967 and died on August 8th 1992. I only learned of Lisette's exact date of death by seeing her cemetery plaque on 'FindAGrave.com'.

The writer of this story, Anthony Lawrence, seems to have recycled the plot from an episode of The Outer Limits he wrote, titled "The Man Who Was Never Born." In that story, a man from the future tries to prevent a couple from getting married because he knows that their future son, to be named Bertrand Cabot, Jr. (no relation to Sebastian Cabot) will become a scientist who causes a plague that wipes out the human race and most life on Earth. I think the same boarding house may have been used in that episode, too.

It was very commonly used in the 60's and 70's to give a scary effect in horror movies and shows. I was a kid then and it always gave me the creeps when they used it. I always wondered why it seemed so scary to me as a kid, but as an adult I've come to realize it seems like any time something human has an unusual gait, or way of moving that isn't right, it kind of messes with your mind. In more recent movies like, "The Ring", when the dead girl Samara crawls out of the TV and has that weird jerky way of walking, it always creeps me out. That seems to be a popular trick they use in horror movies of this century. I also remember seeing a movie where a girl was possessed and she bent over backwards and did this crab crawl down some stairs, that was really spooky looking.

If my surmises are correct, James Franciscus's mistake was going back into the past. If he had left well alone, his daughter in 20 years' time would be safe, whereas nothing would save her after the killing (self defence). Why? Because the girl would give birth to a son; he would learn of what happened to his father, & the identity of who shot him; then, what better way to exact revenge than to kill the killer's daughter. So, although Franciscus felt he were preventing his daughter's murder he was, in reality, bringing it about. The premonition was correct, but only if acted upon; which, unfortunately, for JF, he did & would pay the price in the future. I had already worked out earlier that the girl wouldn't need to 'marry' the guy to have a child, & clearly JF failed to realise this until she told him. In the final analysis, if JF had killed the girl he would have saved his daughter's life in the future, but surrendered his own life in the past in the process. A riveting story.
