It took 30yrs for Alice Cooper to be accepted but it took Ghost 3yrs. Love Ghost. Tobias is a genius.

Rod Boudreau huh? AC was one of the biggest rock bands in the US from 1971-1973. Then when Cooper went solo he had a pretty successful solo career for a few years with a string of (frankly sappy) ballads (You and I, Only Women Bleed, etc) not to mention appearing on The Muppets and Hollywood Squares (not his proudest moment. Ha!) around the same time. No to also mention his comeback around the late 80s/early 90 which resulted in more hit records and apperances in Wayne's World etc. In other words, not sure why you'd imply ol' AC needed 30 years to get "accepted". If anything by his 30th year he was way past his "popular" prime. (For the record, don't take this response too serious; I'm not some raving, humourless fan but I am an AC fan and felt you saying it took him "30 years" (!) to accepted was a bit off the mark and had to add my two pesos)

"Year Zero" is just a place in an ongoing story they were telling over their first 3 albums. Year Zero is the end of the world when the Anti Christ has won and is ascending the throne of man on Earth. It's just following the story of the Anti Christ that Ghost established on their first album with 'Ritual'; which was his conception. 'Genesis' was his birth. 'Year Zero' is his victory over man before God ultimately returns to destroy him and bring Judgement to Earth in the song 'Bible' on the next album. It's just a song charting his life's mission amongst humanity before God destroys him in the end.

Those names in the beginning are all different names of "the devil" in different cultures. Belial, Behemoth, Beezlebub. Asmodeus, Satanas, Lucifer. Also, you are correct about the "welcoming of Year Zero". The first album, Opus Eponymous, is more about the existence of the devil. The second album (Year Zero is from this album), Infestissumam, is about the rise of the devil. The third album, (the other song you did, Cirice, is from this album) is about the devil being in command and ruling the world we live in. If you want a really good and solid album play through, give Meliora a go. Such an amazing album, there are ONLY good songs on it.

Generally Awesome I have to disagree. The mixes are mostly wonderful on the majority of Ghost albums. However I think your gripe may be the mastering that is enclosed. Bad mastering destroys a good mix. Now I will say outright that the mastering on Ghost CDS is absolutely garbage. Maybe that’s where we both have the problem. ;)

"catchy as hell"... I don't get it. Except for "Square Hammer" there's not a single song by Ghost I'd consider "catchy". I just don't know what people hear there :D Are they listening to the same music? I'd describe Ghost's music as very... smooth, without any edges, I think the production is terrible.... makes all instruments even, nothing really sticks out and therefore every song is just this 3-4 minute blur...

Edit: Tobias said in an interview (maskless) that he was a huge fan of black metal growing up, as well as the whole mystique of Satan in society. Although, I do have to say that Ghost's first album had much more of the kind of cheesy 70's-inspired music and story themes I really love this band for. There's only one member of the band as far as I know. The singer records everything except for drums and hires musicians to tour. I think it's all pretty damn impressive...just not for everyone.

Their live show is amazing, especially their solo tour. It is literally musical theater for 2 hours with an intermission. Probably the tightest sounding band I have ever heard live. Their music isn't for everyone but I really enjoy it even though I typically listen to much harder stuff.

Honest question, no troll... Is Ghost a Christian band?... All their stuff is about the Antichrist and Satan and hell and demons from the Christian religions. As far as I know, the Antichrist is specific to Christianity (I may not be 100% correct about this). If your entire image or gimmick or theatrics or whatever you wanna call it is directly taken from Christianity (the imagery, the lyrics, the choir, the instruments, the name of the lead singer), then aren't you a Christian band? It just seems counterproductive to be mocking the very thing that you took your entire style from. With that being said, I do like some of their music, and I'm not very religious. Idk, I guess I just don't understand why they do what they do (I guess I don't need to though...)

I'm not. Infestissumam is fuckin' fire. It seems to be the least liked album by most Ghost fans, but it's actually my favorite from them. It's a little bit cleaner (in terms of production and writing) than Opus Eponymous, but refines their sound to its core. I love everything Ghost has made, though. I love hearing them on the radio now. I worry that they'll keep drifting further and further from the satanic themes in their songs as their popularity grows, though.

There's nothing "death metal" in Ghost's music. Traditional metal yes, 80's new wave or goth pop yes and bits of classic rock and prog even.

Ras Smith they’re totally mixed genre, prequelle is totally classic rock/80s styled. they don’t like labelling themselves by a specific genre, but all albums up until prequelle i think classify well as doom metal. i think most people equate ‘metal’ with just screaming and unclear vocals, but metal is such a vast genre with so many different types, and ghost definitely fits the ‘doom metal’ genre, in my opinion.
