At this point with all the added drama, I think the C grade movie sort of just closes how worthless the whole thing was and how Paul made a complete ass out of himself over nothing. It's not the worst movie out this year but it is disappointing mostly because of the amount of energy that was put into it and just how much ticket buyers were shafted and treated throughout the entire ordeal. What is it with 2016 and reboots being shitty and consumers being held accountable before we have a chance to buy what they're trying to sell? God damn.

What many people don't know about the original ghostbusters was that the black ghostbuster was meant to played by Eddie Murphy, but he had to turn the part down due to the movie clashing with him filming Beverly Hills Cop. So they hired Ernie Hudson as his replacement and made the character much smaller and less important. Imagine how great Ghostbuster would have been with peak Dan, Bill and Eddie!

I am going to go see this movie, and judge it on its own merits. From the reviews I have seen so far, I am expecting a pretty decent film. My problem with the making and promotion of this movie is that it pretends to have feminist overtones, but it actually undermines feminist aims. If you want a movie to promote feminist values, start by making it ORIGINAL! Instead, when you merely remake the original film - a film that had male leads, male writers, and a male director - and simply put females in those roles, the only thing you are doing is riding on the coattails of a male dominated creative legacy. Far from being empowering to females, simply copying what men have already done, implies that women can't do anything original, and must instead coast on the accomplishment of men. This is the exact opposite of what feminists should want. So despite their good attentions, this is counterproductive.
@noheroespublishing19078 жыл бұрын
Movies that I consider great 'feminist' movies are great for the exact reason that the movie does not punch the viewer in the face with the sex of the characters. Aliens and Terminator 2 are great movies with feminist undertones and very strong female characters. I don't consider Die Hard a great action film because John McLane is a man, I consider it a great film because I am watching a person struggle against highly improbable odds and overcomes the adversity through luck and will. Don't insult the audience, let the characters stand on their own, as well as feel and behave in a seemingly natural way.
@alphacause8 жыл бұрын
Kaden Moeller I agree! If you want to illustrate the strength of women, have them display qualities that exude strength. Movies should not overtly preach their message.
@noheroespublishing19078 жыл бұрын
The problem is that the characters need to stand on their own, in a 'feminist' film the women characters would stand in equity to the male characters. For example Vasquez (Aliens), Ripley (Aliens), Sara Conner (Terminator 2) and Neytiri (Avatar) are all feminist characters in that they stand with the male characters as equals among their male comrades. If you notice a pattern James Cameron directed all of these characters.
@noheroespublishing19078 жыл бұрын
To an extent, some of them were supporting characters; but not to their detriment, it's just the way the films were written. Of course Ellen Ripley and Sara Conner were central characters in their own right; even defined the very image and archetype of a strong female character. As an aside I do like how all of those characters were not over sexualized, I mean, I like eye candy as much as the next person but with story telling the plot and character come first in my mind; if I want super sexy I'll watch porn or something. Sure in this new Ghostbusters movie they stay away from the over sexualization but it's a bit mindless beyond that. I like stupid fun, but I'm so sick of it that I don't even go see movies much anymore because of it; Marvel movies have killed it for me, I now mostly avoid blockbuster style movies like the plague because they've become so unbearable to watch anymore.

A big movie studio and a grown ass man (established director, mind you) getting into social media wars with people who justly or unjustly criticized the trailers. Imagine guys like Nolan, Iñárritu or Cuarón engaging in stupid shit like that. If you stop to think about it the original movie is such a strange animal that it is a miracle that it was received so well. Like I said before, it's not a laugh out loud funny but it has comedic tones to it, mixed with horror and adventure elements. Of the four actresses in the remake, the only one I can see doing the same type of subtle, poker face comedy is Kristen Wiig. Not too different from the original? That's like comparing Batman vs Superman with Dark Knight. I clearly remember the original and I don't recall any forced jokes, bad timing, Cartoon Network special effects. It would have been better to make it a mixed team, showing everyone working together as a team.

Finally got around to seeing Ghostbusters 2016 and I thought it was just okay. The female ensemble works very well together and it's such a shame they didn't get a more inspired script to work from. My Rating: High Rental

Again It has nothing to do with all woman cast. It is the fact they striped the name and ideas but left the GB1 and GB2 out of it. Then when you see the trailers it looks like crap.

I felt the same way about this movie as I did the live-action Scooby Doo movies: Bad CGI and horrible writing and delivery. I don't blame it on the actresses, just bad writing and directing. The characters in the original all felt like real people you could have known irl and their reactions were genuine. In this it felt like they were SNL comedians (ha ha irony) trying to play a trope and waiting for an opportunity for a one-liner improv moment.

I had no clue there was a whole ghostbusters before ghostbusters. I’m like in shock right now. That’d be like the TMNT was a nothing Saturday morning special before the tmnt I know of. Now it makes sense why it was called the real ghostbusters.

People were only mad because they knew that this would just be another typical Melissa Mccarthy movie.. They were basically just cashing in on the Ghostbusters name. It had nothing to do with them being women. People would have had the exact same reaction if it was Kevin Heart & his group doing it.

I would like to note to you guys that there have been female ghostbusters before. In the second incarnation of the animated series, Kaylie was the first female busters though in all fairness, Janine could, and probally SHOULD, be considered the first female Ghostbuster in the series as she fought with the guys in several episodes. The IDW comics also feature a Janine LEAD team with three women (one of them Kaylie) and one guy and the first BLACK FEMALE Ghostbuster is Lou Kamaka who works in the Chicago branch of the GB. Paul Feig hasn't done anything new with the series that better writers and artist have done before. The only thing he did was pitch a bitch and act like a little whiny ass child when no one was sucking his dick over how 'empowering' he was when, as I have stated before, there have been female Ghostbusters before and no one gave a SHIT about it because it was still good. While there are still a lot of LEGIT racist and sexist out there most of the problems came from Feig and Sony's behavior. None of this shit would have happened if they had not gone about acting like anyone who didn't praise them hated women. And now I am waiting for the gay version of this movie. Thanks Korey.

@SuperCosmicMutantSquid8 жыл бұрын
ZoanBlade90 Not a problem. I brought them up because they more or less contain a lot of elements that people ask for in the series which is an expanded universe and more characters, including female ones. All they had to do was adapt a lot of things from the comics to get what they wanted but.... Yeah, we all know what happened.

This was doomed from the start Even most of the original cast with the exception of Dan Aykroyd was hesitant on doing another sequel for all these years because the 2nd movie was so poorly received The original movie was just a perfect storm and it honestly can't be replicated This franchise was simply rebooted for the same reason TMNT, Transformers, etc. were TO. SELL. MERCHANDISE.

it's 2016 now guys. Have you ever considered for a moment that rating movies as a "Rental" could be interpreted as "Never watch this movie", since in this day & age no one actually "rents" movies anymore? Like seriously: the last time I tried to "rent" a movie, I ended up leaving the movie rental store having bought what I went there to rent at a price that was less than a rental would've been, because the rental store was going out of business & liquidating all their inventory to anyone willing to buy it. Instead of rating movies as "Rental", maybe rate them as "Streamer" instead? (which conveniently rhymes with "Steamer")
@cemarz8 жыл бұрын
This new one is not too different from what we had before???? What???? Ghostbusters is one of the best movies ever in regards to the techincals of storytelling. It's pretty much flawless. You could nix the comedy and it'd still be a classic. This new movie is rubbish. It has a paper thin plot, a terrible story. Bad pacing, doesn't earn the ending, doesn't earn a suspension of disbelief. It is a lame duck script.

Oh go ahead and dredge up the dead! I thought I was the only one who remembered the live-action Saturday morning GHOSTBUSTERS. Certainly didn't age well, did it? As far as the movies, the first GHOSTBUSTERS said everything perfectly. With all due respect, ladies, I can't even accept GHOSTBUSTERS 2 and 3, let alone GHOSTBUSTERS 2016. I chalk that up to Hollywood's obsession with profit. They just can't leave anything alone.
@captaintaco9797 жыл бұрын
Honestly the movie was average, but I see a good movie trying to get out. I like the cast and I like the action, but my God they fucked it up. I hope that they could make a sequel, and improve, the writing was off, the editing was off, and a better director. I think Edgar Wright would be perfect.

@supersaiyangoddess42935 жыл бұрын
@@APDaBaronPart 2 was better by far because it had a better cast who worked well together. In the 2015 movie everyone is overacting like crazy. I don't know why people act like this movie is even average when the acting is so bad.

Actually, I picked up from the first watch that whatever was going on was blocking the sun, there was this dark cloud spreading from the hotel's roof before the action started, so, it was clearly established in the movie. Also, street lights work automatically (at least where I'm from) and the will come on the moment it gets dark, not when someone pulls the switch. Also, it was literally never established in this movie that you can't kill a ghost, which in itself is not a wilder idea than a team of nerds fighting ghosts is. They only bothered to catch a ghost in the beginning because they wanted to prove that ghosts are real, not because they couldn't kill them. In fact, the alarming amount of weapons produced by Kate's characters kinda tips you off that they are not for catching anything, but for killing it.
