When you see Dan Ackroyd shedding a tear at the very end, that was him for real. He was overcome with emotion when they staged the father and daughter hug.

I have said it many times... the very first time, i saw it in theater, i had one thought That ending when Egon shows up, Bills "I knew you turn up" Dans "Im sorry" and Ernies "I should have called" to me, it wasnt Peter, Vince and Ray talking to Egon. It was Bill, Dan and Ernie saying "Sorry Harold, we should have done this, while we had time"

It was Ivan, the OG of the director for Ghostbusters movies(2 of the them). He was the body double & it was his last days. Man it was the emotional & bittersweet moment especially for Jason who did the directing for this movie. This movie helped me to move on & just feel appreciated in such delicate ways. Rest in Peace, Harold & Ivan! Live on the Ghostbusters! And my favorite OG Ghostbusters, is all of them!

Went and saw this in theaters. People were laughing, cheering during a particular scene and I heard some sniffles from people crying. This was the Ghostbusters movie we were waiting for. Gave major respect to the original two movies and characters. While also paving a way forward for sequels of its own. They did Ghostbusters right.

I saw it twice in the theater. The Ultimate Collection apparently sold out BUT I heard that there may be a new production run. If so, I will pick that up. If not, I will get the Blu-ray. I think the final after-the-credits extra scene both gives a wonderful, 'the American Dream can be yours if you make the effort' message by Ernie Hudson.

@@Cwhirt910 Absolutely. Plus, I have heard that an easter egg is that the film acknowledges that he got his Doctorate. There is a listing of him as Dr. Winston Zedemore. I haven't spotted it yet. If true, that would be another thread of continuity reaching back to either the 2nd movie or the video game where we learn he has gone back to school. I don't recall for certain which at the time of this writing. EDIT: After a bit of searching I found this; "Also revealed in Ghostbusters: The Video Game is the fact Winston earned or attempted to earn a Ph.D. During their investigation at The Museum of Natural History, Winston comments "Ah, the Egypt exhibit. I practically lived here while I was working on my doctorate." Whether this occurred prior to the events in the movies, or between then and the video game, is not made clear."

What I think made this movie so successful was that it didn't lean on the original films too much to carry it. It managed to be it's own film while being respectful to the originals and passing the baton in a beautiful way. It really did feel like Dan Ackroyd was saying goodbye to Harold at the end. Mckenna Grace was an amazing mini-Egon. Definitely my favorite. Peter Venkman is my favorite OG Ghostbuster.

Fun fact: When they said that there hasn't been a ghost sighting for 30 years, it means since 1991. 1991 is the exact year that the Ghostbusters video game took place. That's also probably why Gozer ripped Shandor in half.

It should be noted that Violet Ramis Stiel, his daughter, also was very emphatic that her father would have loved the 2016 movie as well, as one of her final, treasured memories of him was watching him laugh hysterically at Paul Feig's Bridesmaids, specifically singling out McCarthy as a great talent. She stated she finds it disrespectful when fans act like he would have had a grudge against the reboot.

31:01 Based on the timeline this movie sets up it's fully possible that Ghostbusters: The Video Game is being acknowledged as canon it's events take place in 1991 and Ivo Shandor was the primary villain in that and I believe he attempts to steal Gozer's powers so that would explain why Gozer just offs him right away once freed.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game and this movie directly contradict each other in crucial ways (for example, you find the literal skull of Ivo Shandor in the game), so there is no way The Video Game can be canon.

I dunno if another comment got deleted or what, but they're not just contradictory, but they're fundamentally incompatible. There is no way to make sense of both things having happened. The movie was supposed to take place in 2020 before the pandemic delayed it. I also cannot find any source on Aykroyd saying the game was canon. I think some people care about preserving the game because they believe the opening credits saying the game was written by Aykroyd and Ramis, but those were honorary credits, per the developers in an AMA when the remastered edition came out. The game was written by the developers themselves and Aykroyd and Ramis gave approval.

@@tylerfoster6267 if you do some research akroyd say that the game was the third movie, he also written the game with ramis and collaborated with the developer, to this day the game is considered canon. Also because in the game essentially shandor try to stole the power of gozer, that explain why gozer torn in half shandor in the movie.anyway for me the game can be canon with no problem, also the real ghostbusters are canon and sometimes crash with so. E thing of the movie, but essentially it's canon both the game and the real, so. Anyway there is no problem if someone accept it as canon or not, but the fact it that is canon, and i have no problem to accept it

Without Ghostbusters I wouldn't wanted to get into Spooky things and want to be actor. Who knew I would do Haunted Houses for 21 years, It took hurting my spine to retire me. Anyways The Classic and cartoons Peter was my favorite. And this Phoebe just was the heart of this film. What makes this better than the 2016 was the tone and added to the greatness that the original created rather than trying to replace it. Harold Ramis would be proud of this. I think It can keep going but make sure whatever that they do keep it scary, funny and full of heart I think Slimer should return. If they don't do a film do a series building up to a next film. Heck bring the Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon characters show up.

The team behind 2016 misunderstood Ghostbusters. They thought it's a comedy franchise, not a light horror with comedic elements. So, they crammed in filthy jokes and slapstick humor. A lot of Afterlife's detractors also focused on comedy, saying the film "isn't funny" and "takes itself too seriously" for a Ghostbusters movie. They obviously don't understand that half the humor in the original films comes entirely from Bill Murray's ad-libs.

For as well loved movies that the original 2 were, this IS the Ghostbusters 'requel' the fans have been waiting for. When I saw this at the cinema I revisited my childhood all over again. in the first scene in the farmhouse I noticed the symmetrical-book-stacks immediately and knew that it was haunted. I really think that McKenna Grace was the perfect child-actor for her role, and her comedic timing was on-point. I loved what Podcast's character added to the movie. McKenna Grace I feel is going to build on the success she's already had from 'The Haunting of Hill House', 'Annabelle Comes Home', and 'Malignant' to become a staple of horror movie acting. She's definitely got the stuff. Oh, from what I remember of the Bluray extra features, that condescending female cop who was stood behind the desk in the police station, is Dan Aykroyd's real-life daughter. Plus Harold Ramis' daughter was brought to the set one day by Jason Reitman, she said that she'd never processed just how much her father meant to her, and how much she missed him, until one day behind the scenes, she put his proton pack on, and started to well-up in tears. She said that the character Egon wasn't the whole of her father, but it felt special to have that one last connection with him. Yep, looks like there's gonna be more Ghostbusters with that open-ending and those mid-credit and post-credit scenes, and Dan Aykroyd is enthusiastic about pursuing more with this new cast and characters. He wrote the originals, and he co-wrote Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Hope that extra info gives you a bit of a buzz.

EDIT: FINALLY saw this movie. Somehow managed to have nothing spoiled. And I LOVED it. 32:27 the amazing disappearing/reappearing corn field. They keep showing the house alone in a giant field. Everyone says, “dirt farmer”. Then in the moments they’re fighting ghosts (opening & ending), there’s a giant corn field in front of their front door.

FYI, Ghost Corps was established in 2015 or 2016 ahead of the 2016 movie. When there are no movies in the works, the company is responsible for all of the merchandise.

A good send off to Harold. It made me tear up at the end. Bob Gunton, the actor who played the warden in "The Shawshank Redemption," was the body double for Egon.

Why do I tear up every time I see Igon's ghost appearing to help Pheobe and then fighting alongside the 3 guys again? I'm a 51 year old man, but apparently also a little girl.

Here's something. The two people in the scene at 8:40 are married in real life despite the fact they look like they're a generation apart. It's actually a mere 15 years.

If it hasn't been mentioned already, the Director of the first 2 Ghostbusters movies : Ivan Reitman (father of Jason Reitman) was the body double for Egon's ghost and photos were used with permission of Harold's family.

Great reaction! This film is an 8.5 out of 10. Sure it's flawed. But, it's one of the best sequels in the history of Hollywood. Pure escapism. I had a good time in the theater watching this film.

Mckenna Grace stole the show. She was just amazing in this film. I loved it. Great connections to the original two including music and enough for new fans too. Jason Reitman did an awesome job. I hope he continues for the next one. This is how to do a Ghostbusters film and one we have been waiting over 30 years for.

Fun Fact: Actor Bob Gunton (Shawshank Redemption/ The warden) played the physical Egon but the special effects made a digital facial effect over Bob's face. They used the old footage from pt2 and aged the face. When they do the box set, they should pay respect to the very recent loss of Ivan Reitman.

I was amazed when Egon showed up. When a new movie comes out that I want to watch, I avoid all the reviews so I had no idea they had done that for Harold. It was a beautiful memorial to him. In the original two I don't know if I had one favorite. I enjoyed both Bill and Harold's characters. In this one I have to say Paul was my favorite, just because I enjoy his constant fumbling in his roles.
