It was Bill, Dan and Ernie saying "Sorry Harold, we should have done this, while we had time"

@@Cwhirt910 Absolutely. Plus, I have heard that an easter egg is that the film acknowledges that he got his Doctorate. There is a listing of him as Dr. Winston Zedemore. I haven't spotted it yet. If true, that would be another thread of continuity reaching back to either the 2nd movie or the video game where we learn he has gone back to school. I don't recall for certain which at the time of this writing. EDIT: After a bit of searching I found this; "Also revealed in Ghostbusters: The Video Game is the fact Winston earned or attempted to earn a Ph.D. During their investigation at The Museum of Natural History, Winston comments "Ah, the Egypt exhibit. I practically lived here while I was working on my doctorate." Whether this occurred prior to the events in the movies, or between then and the video game, is not made clear."

What I think made this movie so successful was that it didn't lean on the original films too much to carry it. It managed to be it's own film while being respectful to the originals and passing the baton in a beautiful way. It really did feel like Dan Ackroyd was saying goodbye to Harold at the end. It should be noted that Violet Ramis Stiel, his daughter, also was very emphatic that her father would have loved the 2016 movie as well, as one of her final, treasured memories of him was watching him laugh hysterically at Paul Feig's Bridesmaids, specifically singling out McCarthy as a great talent. She stated she finds it disrespectful when fans act like he would have had a grudge against the reboot.

31:01 Based on the timeline this movie sets up it's fully possible that Ghostbusters: The Video Game is being acknowledged as canon it's events take place in 1991 and Ivo Shandor was the primary villain in that and I believe he attempts to steal Gozer's powers so that would explain why Gozer just offs him right away once freed.

I dunno if another comment got deleted or what, but they're not just contradictory, but they're fundamentally incompatible. There is no way to make sense of both things having happened. The movie was supposed to take place in 2020 before the pandemic delayed it. I also cannot find any source on Aykroyd saying the game was canon. I think some people care about preserving the game because they believe the opening credits saying the game was written by Aykroyd and Ramis, but those were honorary credits, per the developers in an AMA when the remastered edition came out. The game was written by the developers themselves and Aykroyd and Ramis gave approval.

The team behind 2016 misunderstood Ghostbusters. They thought it's a comedy franchise, not a light horror with comedic elements. So, they crammed in filthy jokes and slapstick humor. A lot of Afterlife's detractors also focused on comedy, saying the film "isn't funny" and "takes itself too seriously" for a Ghostbusters movie. They obviously don't understand that half the humor in the original films comes entirely from Bill Murray's ad-libs.

Hi Dorothy, I'm really happy that you and Randy watched this together. Your reactions were all that I expected them to be and more. That scene with Egon's ghost got me too. Ghostbusters: Afterlife rounded Egon's character arc off perfectly. I loved all of the call-backs to the original. For as well loved movies that the original 2 were, this IS the Ghostbusters 'requel' the fans have been waiting for. When I saw this at the cinema I revisited my childhood all over again. in the first scene in the farmhouse I noticed the symmetrical-book-stacks immediately and knew that it was haunted. I really think that McKenna Grace was the perfect child-actor for her role, and her comedic timing was on-point. I loved what Podcast's character added to the movie. McKenna Grace I feel is going to build on the success she's already had from 'The Haunting of Hill House', 'Annabelle Comes Home', and 'Malignant' to become a staple of horror movie acting. She's definitely got the stuff. Oh, from what I remember of the Bluray extra features, that condescending female cop who was stood behind the desk in the police station, is Dan Aykroyd's real-life daughter. Plus Harold Ramis' daughter was brought to the set one day by Jason Reitman, she said that she'd never processed just how much her father meant to her, and how much she missed him, until one day behind the scenes, she put his proton pack on, and started to well-up in tears. She said that the character Egon wasn't the whole of her father, but it felt special to have that one last connection with him. Yep, looks like there's gonna be more Ghostbusters with that open-ending and those mid-credit and post-credit scenes, and Dan Aykroyd is enthusiastic about pursuing more with this new cast and characters. He wrote the originals, and he co-wrote Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Hope that extra info gives you a bit of a buzz.

@24:23 - 24:55 I like how the visual effects were done in a way that mimicked the original Ghostbusters visuals.

Great reaction! This film is an 8.5 out of 10. Sure it's flawed. But, it's one of the best sequels in the history of Hollywood. Pure escapism. I had a good time in the theater watching this film.

Escapism exactly. No agenda just pure fun and a tribute to the past with making way for a new generation

Mckenna Grace stole the show. She was just amazing in this film. I loved it. Great connections to the original two including music and enough for new fans too. Jason Reitman did an awesome job. I hope he continues for the next one. This is how to do a Ghostbusters film and one we have been waiting over 30 years for.

Fun Fact: Actor Bob Gunton (Shawshank Redemption/ The warden) played the physical Egon but the special effects made a digital facial effect over Bob's face. They used the old footage from pt2 and aged the face. When they do the box set, they should pay respect to the very recent loss of Ivan Reitman.

Paul Rudd fit so well into this movie, I wish I had a teacher who showed me horror movies when I was in High School.

I was amazed when Egon showed up. When a new movie comes out that I want to watch, I avoid all the reviews so I had no idea they had done that for Harold. It was a beautiful memorial to him. In the original two I don't know if I had one favorite. I enjoyed both Bill and Harold's characters. In this one I have to say Paul was my favorite, just because I enjoy his constant fumbling in his roles.

This Movie was a PERFECT Homage to Ghostbusters and a Touching Tribute to the Wonderful Harold Ramis. The Only Missing Piece was the Final Cast Member, Rick Moranis.

no reason to feel embarassed about the 'need to drink water' at the end. The end sequence brings tears to me everytime.
