There wasn't yet a script for this movie 7 years ago. And how come that you, his friend, is the only one saying this while Harold's family approved this? I'm not trying to discredit you. @@stewartmcminn7773 Slimer spoke Gibberish. The library ghost “shushed” Venkman. Vigo spoke all throughout Ghostbusters 2. The Subway tunnel in GB2 called out Winston’s name. Some ghosts have the ability to speak, while some don’t. In this instance, Egon chose not to speak. Though, he could emote and feel. Realistically, Jason Reitman didn’t want Egon to speak because it would be too creepy and painful for the audience, Ramis’ family, and everyone involved with Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

I don't know if anyone else pointed this out, but there was another subtle callback to the original 1984 Ghostbusters. The scene where the kids are at the diner looking at the map and planning their next move... it was very reminiscient of the scene where the original GB's were in jail and discussing the Gozerian cult and the end of the world. As Egon is explaning the history all of the other guys in the jail are moving in closer and listening more intently. As the kids are in the diner planning their move, you see the other kids in the booths behind them turning around and listening in and paying closer attention in a similar way. I absolutely loved this movie! I was in tears with that tribute to Harold and the movie just hit me in all the right feels. I was happy to be able to share it with my 6 year old daughter who loves the Ghostbusters!! I do hope there is more to come from the original crew before they pass the torch to the younger crew.

My head cannon is that Egon purposely left his family tonot only protect them, but to ensure he had unfinished business so he could help prevent the next Gozer incursion. Jason Reitman was a kid roaming the sets of the first movies, he grew up in that world and it shows. The movie touches every moment we would want to see on a Ghostbusters movie from the perspective of a kid. I also found it a little funny how Finn Wolfhard dressed as a ghostbuster in Stranger Things but he's now officially in the canonical Ghost Busters universe as well. I saw 'Afterlife' last night and I have to say it is the best movie I have seen in the last two years. Definitely one I will see again, and it will go on the shelf next to the original films. I think the cast was perfect and the writing was excellent. If this is the last film in the series, it would not bother me at all.

With Cujo foreshadowing Terror Dogs, I think Child's Play was foreshadowing the Mini Pufts. Something cute and harmless that gets possessed and comes to life to cause chaos.

I must have had that eye popper toy when I was a kid, but lost the body of it when I was really young. I have no memory at all of the purple ghost but I played with that floating eyeball all the time. It's nice to know what the whole thing looked like!

When the particles of Egon rise up to heaven at the very end and are passing the windmill, the outline of the original ghost from the Ghostbusters sign can be seen in the particles.

Seeing Egon at the end made me tear up as well. More so it made me remember my cousin who introduced me to Ghostbusters in the 80s; he passed away tragically 27 years ago. 😢

I seriously cannot believe how well this movie turned out. They make it look effortless. The whole thing just gives this warm, fuzzy feeling. It all ties back to the original and makes perfect sense and there's plenty of nods there for both hardcore fans as well as casual fans of the movies so everyone gets in on the fun. I hope it did well enough to get a sequel because I'd love to see everyone back busting ghosts in the future.

I really enjoyed this film start to finish. I hope there is a sequel done in the same fashion because I had no issues with this. I respected and liked the fact that you only see a cgi ghost of Harold/egon at the end with no dialogue, just expressions and a simple but beautiful "for harold" at the end.

The one thing this movie did so well was remind you just how bad the 2016 one was. Also fun fact selenium also played a part in the movie Evolution, which kinda makes sense with it being a thru-line, as the script for it began as a GB3 treatment.
