The company that makes this has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau and 1,450 bad reviews on TrustPilot mostly from people giving them their money and not getting anything for months if ever, and frequently the parts you get are damaged. Not from shipping... they mail out other peoples returns (broke and full of covid germs!)

@@_Odin_, I won't begrudge someone who can spend that kind of money. People are free to live how they choose to. I am just saying that on my salary, with a mortgage and kids, it is cool, but not practical. Even on a monthly basis. But more power to everyone who can get it. It is a neat piece!

@@JD-be7ys You are a wise man. I haven't bought a collectible or a movie prop or a guitar in a long time. These are comforts that live on a shelf. That money for a family holiday, and memories is better spent, or even just staying in the bank account for the rainy day that will always come. I wish more people realised that some of these possessions is like an addiction. Back on the old guitar forums, we referred to it as GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). It applies for all hobbies.

I think they are hoping most people won't do the math when they tout the "Payments as low as $10.50, plus shipping!" [while downplaying the $ x 104 = a lot of $ part] It is certainly a really cool piece. And if they sell the completed model in one box for a lower price tag I might consider it, but like others have said, it would not be very fiscally responsible of me. Especially given that I have similar things that have been sitting in boxes in the basement for years now.
@avi8r66
@avi8r66 5 жыл бұрын
The 2 yr thing is done to charge a higher price and keep an ongoing residual money stream in to the company. You also get more personally invested with it due to the time involved. If this follows other similar schemes once the subscription crowd has their monthly pieces, after a year maybe, so 3 yrs from now, they then offer the whole thing for sale as one big shipment. A couple years later, to clear the shelves, it starts going on sale. I picked up the De’Agostino Millennium falcon this way, it is normally something like 1500, was on sale for 900. Still crazy pricey but its a huge model of the falcon and can be built to a very high level of detail. Anyway, its great for people who only worry about the monthly payment, and many people do focus on just that number. So it will sell fine probably. But these tactics suck. And calling it a model kit is a bit misleading, though technically true. We hear that phrase and think plastic model, one that needs finishing and can even be customized while building. For example, adding the message board to the equipment rack, or adding lights to the interior, that kind of thing. A model kit like that, of this car, would be terrific.

She said it’s an exact copy of the one from the film but it isn’t. The front roof lights aren’t the original ones. The original Ecto 1 lights are identical both front and back. The front ones on this model taken from the re-build where they replaced parts that had been stolen on the back lot at universal. If you are gonna charge so much you should get the details perfect.

It's not $45 a month. Each magazine is $10.90 and the shipping for each magazine is $2.45. Four magazines a month is $53. Over 24 months that's $1,260. The website says there is 141 magazines, which puts the cost at closer to ~$1860. For some people that's worth the price. But the true total cost should be posted for those curious what this will ultimately cost them.

My kids are super into Ghostbusters right now so I am considering this as a project to do with them over the next 2 years. The sticking point for me is that it doesn’t seem to be $40 a month for 2 years. The website says it’s $10.90 per kit plus $2.45 shipping per kit. The completed model is made in 141 kits which comes to a total cost of $1,882.35. Now you do receive the first 2 kits for $1.95 and free shipping. That takes $24.75 off of the total and brings it to $1,857.60. That assumes that there’s no sales tax. In my case I could view this as an entertainment purchase for myself and kids over 2 years and I’d be left with a cool car and hopefully some good times. If you’re looking at this as a straight up purchase for the finished model however it’s a bit on the expensive side.
@MephProduction
@MephProduction 3 жыл бұрын
plus if you do it monthly there's is guarantee you'll get the parts to finish it. they could just shut the business or production down and you'll be lefts if a half finished model having spent a few $100 already.. that's my issue, i've seen it happen before.

Everyone is saying that after a couple of years this thing is going to be one to $2000, and the math currently, as I’m writing this, I’ve subscribed to the Ecto-1 with two kits starting out, and only $1.95, and with the price per for kits(mailed all together in one package a month) and two dollars in change I think for the shipping, it’s about $61 and change a month. So a lot of people think, one to $2000 over a period of 2 to 3 years and 141 kits, f*ck that…. And on one end, I do get that, but there are Lego sets out there that cost the same price but because they’re built out of smaller pieces, like all the pieces are relatively small in general and can be packaged up in one big box, you probably enough spending one or 2000 on a very popular very expensive Lego set which luckily enough because all the pieces are small and packaged in bags and in one box, you would still spend hours if not weeks or a couple of months building that for fun, but this besides the description, you’d be paying the same amount of money overtime for an expensive Lego set, but because it’s a 1/8 Scale model, and all the pieces are metal, because it supposed to be a model, the pieces for the vehicles are bigger size, do you have to take into account that you’re paying for a model that big, with as much detail and quality as there is to it overtime instead of the coincidence of buying a $2000 Lego set and just be able to bring it home and put it together in a way shorter amount of time, but it’s like an investment towards a very thoroughly detailed model that is made of metal and is a very cool big size. But everyone, to each their own on what they think. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can’t wait for the new movie that’s coming out( my uncle is a rc car driver for it) so I’ll just leave it at that. I also can say someone or something is coming back for the ghost busters to deal with.

How much is the total cost? On one hand, she said it will be 1090 issues (did she misspeak and that is the number of parts?). On the other hand 4 issues per month for 2 years at $45 per month. Then there is Norman's estimate of 140 issues. At $45 per month for four issues over two years... that would result in 96 issues at $1,080. With Norman's estimate of 140 issues, it would be 35 months and $1,575. But if there are 1090 issues with four per month delivered, it would be 272 months (22 years?!) and $12,240.

It's 10.90$ per issue plus 1.95$ shipping. 4 issues per months for 2 years. That's 1233$ but the first issue is only 1.95$ so lets say 1220$ over 2 years.

I am currently building this iconic vehicle, but have noticed (as have many others) that eaglemoss have made many mistakes, one which is the light bars on top. They spin far too quickly & are extremely noisy. I for one will not be making any more models from Eaglemoss again, as this is not the first time discrepincies have been found. They advertised this as an accurate build, which it certainly is not as far too many changes have got to be made to make it screen authentic.

This build over time concept is not new and while expensive seems to work. I prefer to build a model, not just assemble it. I hope they do well, it's a good looking kit.

If I was guarantee to get the whole thing and if it was cheaper and if it took 1 year and if they shipped to Canada I would consider. It's 1250$ with shipping and that's US$. Even if I wanted to subscribe they won't let me.

Hate to be one year into the "subscription" and this company goes out of business. If they can't offer the complete model now rather than "eventually" they're hoping interest in the model will pay for itself by only putting a fraction of the investment into the project. How much was the licence?

What she says is not what's listed on site though. Its 141 issues and you get multiple issues a month. Total comes out to almost $2000 in almost a 3 year span. It's the shipping that adds up. Many people in the UK have paid for a 1 year su scription for a big discount vs monthly charges. This bulk pay isnt there for the US market but many believe it will be once the kit goes live later this month.

Trust Postnord with handling over 25 parcels? Just no, HELL NO! I had a time at the hospital this Thursday at 9.45AM. Apparently they sent the summoning letter via mail, the only way I knew about this is that I asked at the reception desk a month ago when I went to see the nurse about removing some stitches. And the only meeting that were booked for me was at the orthopaedic department. Later they wanted to X-ray my knees so they wanted me to be there one hour earlier. That summoning letter got lost as well. I started it all by sending a private referral where I explicitly said that don't use Postnord or if they have to, send email/SMS that they have posted letters. When I talked with the doctor he mentioned that he noticed my plea, but didn't do anything about it... "Välkommen till det stora Postlotteriet! I vems brevlåda hamnar dina brev den här gången?"

One per week is not too bad but for 2 years that's a no. Make it 750$ and release the complete kit all at once and I would buy it. I can't wait 2 years. I would be way too scared that they stop making them 3/4 of the way through. She said eventually there will be all issues but I wonder how much that will cost. Ill check it out in 2 years I guess. I checked the subscription page out of curiosity. USA only of course. They don't ship to other countries.

The only people who are going to sign up for this will be die-hard Ghostbusters fans. I'm sure there's nothing the magazine could tell them that they don't already know. Scrap the magazine, Eaglemoss, and reduce the overall price of the model by how much you'll be saving on publication costs.

No, mate. The die-hard Ghostbusters fans are not going to buy this... uh... "version" by Eaglemoss because it has a lot of mistakes and is not accurate. The true GB fans are going to buy a 1/6 scale version made by Blitzway.
