That cursed Statue of Liberty section, glad to see I'm not the only one that struggled. Basically you were SOL if you needed to make any turns on the map, as you had to line yourself up exactly in the intersection, then figure out which direction to go in relation to the museum. Despite that this was a great game, really good use of the license with the digitized actor stills and soundtrack samples.

Not so long ago I played through the NES Ghostbusters II and it pretty much took 22 minutes as well! This looks like a bit better game though.

If this had been on the Super Nintendo it would've been a freaking hit!

If you get to the museum early enough, you can zap Vigo while he's outside the painting, which has 2 advantages, 1)Janosz doesn't get in the way, 2)Vigo doesn't shoot fireballs at you until he's back in the painting.

I always wondered if you could actually damage Vigo prior to getting the slime blower, or if you were just supposed to wait it out. If there's a damage counter to trigger the slime blower, it's not very obvious.
@Aurochhunter3 жыл бұрын
The clock you can see at the bottom right during the Statue of Liberty stage is still running, Vigo goes back into the painting when it reaches midnight, the sooner you get to the museum, the more time you have to zap him while he’s outside the painting.

@@simontchang If you make it early enough and zap him while he's outside the painting, when the fight begins, he instantly goes straight to his giant head form. Basically, shocking him before midnight weakens him, which is a must if you want to survive.

You made this look much easier than it actually is. I used to play this with a joystick and my hand would get so tired. I also think I never once figured out how to successfully rescue any Ghostbusters after they were captured. Then again I was seven.

Ohhf, Parkview was SO difficult! I hated having to retrieve my guys from there. I never knew whether it was dumb luck or there was actually a pattern. Also, dodging the nurses was a pain.

I was never able to get past the state of Liberty section, I played with a mouse and could easily get past all other sections bar just couldn't master the controls of libby enough to get to the museum :(
Wow... I played this when I was like.. Eight, I think. Couldn't for the life of me figure out what to do, but I loved the movie, so I just kept trying lol
@Aurochhunter8 жыл бұрын
It took me some getting used to. One time when a friend was playing I tried to help out by telling him to dodge the ghosts attacks, but he got hit by the fireballs, apparently he thought he was controlling the judge in the courtroom, rather than the ghostbuster at the bottom of the screen

Soundblaster has to be turned off in the config file because it causes the game to crash on Dos Box. I still haven't figured out how to turn it off... Help?
@KisaiTenshi4 жыл бұрын
You run it with command line parameters EGA/MT32: GBII EGA MT32 MOUSE TANDY/TANDY: GBII TANDY TANDY MOUSE EGA/ADLIB(or SB) GBII EGA ADLIB MOUSE KEYBOARD or JOYSTICK can also replace MOUSE above The game (as released) may also need to be patched to work. This is because the old games like this were designed to run on an 4.77Mhz 8088 like the Tandy 1000 and IBM PCjr. So they tend to lock up if the PC is too fast. I had tuned the speed in the game to run at roughly the speed I remember it running at.

There's a number of other genres that would have been perfect for a Ghostbusters game Namely, being a Shoot 'Em Up like Contra, or a Bullet Hell like Metal Slug Or another MetroidVania Platformer, or a Zelda Dungeon Crawler Or even be a Doomenstine 3D Blast 'Em Up Actually the Zelda variation would be awesome, as it could have the entire map of New York, and every job, it gets progressively more hectic

I honestly think the simulation type of Ghostbusters game that early versions, including this one, tried, is the best way to make a Ghostbusters game. Shooters or bullet hells would work but those are kind of a dime a dozen. I think this game (and the NES version, which was based on early home computer version), in concept, is wonderful. It incorporates everything the movie shows; you bust ghosts to get money and public trust, and you get better equipment and prepare for the final battle. In execution, is where it fails. The ghost busting mini-games themselves are lacking. If they were made more fun, and controlling libby was more fun, a better game it would be. Honestly, I think taking this game a step further would be better. Make something like XCom, where you fight progressively harder ghosts in tactical combat with the 4 Ghostbusters, all of which have their own builds/specializations. And you could research ghosts and such as you played and unlock better tech/etc.

Ray Charles on his electric piano does Ghostbusters theme recorded in the toilet? lol this is horrible, and that sound card cost more than an Amiga 1200 (which by the way ran Super Stardust as well as a £2000 Pentium 133 lol)
