Grumpy Druid you are so welcome and I thought it was just me that had favourite dead people and favourite graves! Westminster Abbey is amazing from that perspective but St Paul’s cathedral is a close second perhaps, as is Highgate in London. My parents and I got to take a trip to the UK around 1972. They were doing some construction work there. My dad poked his head into the dark area to get a look. I've been to Westminster Abbey. It's incredibly majestic, hauntingly beautiful, and so full of history, it's humbling. You can feel the age of the building and I always felt like someone was just behind me, no matter where I walked. I was so surprised to see Queen Elizabeth I buried next to Mary Queen of Scots. When I asked one of the guides about it, she said it was an attempt to show that the countries of England and Scotland are now united. Thank you for your wonderful, ghostly look into this treasured site.

Hello and I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! Mary Queen of Scots is opposite Elizabeth but Queen Mary (as in Bloody Mary) who was Elizabeth’s half sister is with Elizabeth herself. But you’re right, the proximity of Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth is probably the closest they have ever been! 👻🙋♀️

My favorite video of yours. Windsor Castle is also truly amazing. I could hear stories like this for hours. We were just there in May: long lines and Abbey was jam packed so you couldn't loiter, just follow like sardines the prescribed paths. They only gave you 30 minutes after paying the entrance fee. When I went 40 years ago, you could just saunter in for free like any church (exact same time of year) and take hours to look at the 1,000 years of history. Still worth it though!!

Oh - I'm not sure if you'll see this comment as the vid is from last year. Also, I don't know whether it's relevant to these tales (I haven't hit play yet and can't recall), but could you please explain the National Trust, English Heritage and the listing system for historic landmarks, etc. in a video? I could look it up, but I'm probably not the only foreigner who isn't familiar with the classification situation. If you could sum it up briefly while discussing a location it would be much appreciated. ❤
@ghostcasebook12668 ай бұрын
The National Trust is a charity with membership so I am a member of the National Trust. They have numerous properties across the UK that they preserve along with vast areas of land. Sometimes, wealthy people, to avoid certain taxes, will donate the property, land and furniture to the National trust to preserve. This stops any development on the site. English Heritage is similar; they are also a charity that looks after numerous properties, castles etc. So in effect you could be a member of both and your membership helps to protect the properties. Listed buildings are recognised and catalogued; you absolutely cannot just come along and develop, alter, change, knock down a listed building. Very strict rules are in place to preserve these structures but it’s not just buildings. Phone boxes, post boxes and even things like the Abbey Road crossing are listed. I hope this helps 👻🙏🙋♀️

@@ghostcasebook1266 Yes - thank you very much! Your reply answers questions I've had for years as I watch a lot of British productions on culture, history and/or hauntings and those terms are bandied about. I had a general idea from context but you've summarized the sitch well. ❤

Hello Sandee, thanks for sharing your story. I know, when we are young we aren’t interested maybe in the significant stories of our relatives. I would imagine your ancestor’s details might well be on records at the Abbey or even census records. If you find out more, I’d love to hear about it! Sounds fascinating 🙋♀️🙏

Thank you so much for responding. I live in America and so far have not had success when reaching out. I do not know how to reach someone in the Abbey. I certainly will let you know if I have any success. Cheers! 😊

Hi Sandee, I would give the Abbey a try. They have a contact us email address here: info@westminster-abbey.org Also I had a look through the newspaper archives to see if I could find anything linked to the name you gave but no joy, sadly. I hope you’re able to unearth some details. That would be fantastic 👻🙋♀️

Henry IV did in fact make it to Jerusalem on pilgrimage. He is the only English Crusader King to have that honor

"Posthumous execution"??? The idea is so grotesque, and not just for the obvious reasons. Can you imagine needing so badly to humiliate/symbolically destroy another person that you would do something so unnecessary and horrific, just for your own psychological satisfaction? Ick.

I know! It is quite disturbing to think about it!

That's how a lot of people were in those days. Religion may have played a major part of it.

I saw a ghost once,it was covered with a bedsheet with holes cut out where it’s eyes were,presumably to see where it was going.

It's no wonder there are so many ghosts there, so violent. Isn't it sort if funny that today British are seen as the height of refinement with such a bloody soaked past. Don't we all! Hopefully we will all one day learn to live in peace.❤

Sadly, lots of countries have similar blood soaked pasts.

"Thinking his eyes were being ridiculous", oh so English of you. I haven't heard that expression in many years.

I do love fictional ghost stories especially when they are steeped in old local folklore, it adds to the history of a place even if it is all drunken tales.

"Fictional" ghost stories? I love how the ignorant discount that which they know nothing about.

Love your content! It might be nice to hear more about the North of England (we get ignored a lot so we probs have more stories that fewer people know about?) if you're interested. We have places like York, Chillingham Castle etc. and I believe Durham Castle is still university accommodation for students and it's supposed to be very haunted!

Hi Tigerlily, I am so glad you enjoyed the videos and I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Rest assured, I hear you concern about the North of England being ignored and I am working on content right now that takes us further afield. You are right; there are some wonderful tales from Northumberland, Yorkshire and many, many more locations. The Christmas episode touched on Birmingham and Derbyshire, and haunted English hoteks looked at a hotel in Lincoln but stay tuned as more will be coming your way very soon 😀👻🙋♀️

The story of the founding of Westminster Abbey can be dismissed as *utter bunkum*. There is nothing at all mystic about the building's construction. It was built like any other in London, or the rest of England, by extreme hard work at a time when modern construction techniques and apparatus were non-existent.
@ghostcasebook1266 Жыл бұрын
Consecration and construction are not the same. The story was of the consecration, the dedication of the site. I agree the construction was epic by any standards, but St Peter didn’t create the building itself.
