Chichester Harbour on a lovely day at the end of summer. Not much wind, but my Mirror Dinghy still requires a lot of sailing...

God to see how you set the spinnaker, I have copied your set up and tried it in the back yard but yet to use it on water very effective in light conditions and looks good too.

There is video of Thames Barge "Edme" carrying a spinnaker in this fashion at the following URL: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zme5nmWPo8SJi6M

Hey! That's a sail I haven't seen yet?? Uses same pole? Instruction to make? Just dropped of my 2nd main at my sail guy to do gaff mod ala Mirror Cruising 3. Thanks for posting details! Question. Should he sacrifice some of the top sail for reenforcement strips for reef point and the leech head of the gaff sail? Also, do you know an easy way to remove the insignia from the sail so as not to have it cut in two by the gaff modification cut? And how to reapply it later?

Hi David. My sailmaker had red material available for patches so did not cut any off. I suppose you could have a topsail of a different colour if necessary, as this is often done. My sail numbers were already in a good position so I don't know how to get them off. My spinnaker is tacked down at the mast foot, as done on old gaffers. It uses the standard spinnaker but located off to the side, like another mainsail. It seems a very safe way of doing it as it collapses if back winded.

It is not my favourite when there is no wind everything is a struggle.

Just looking at your mainsheet, is there an advantage to moving the mounting to the tiller stock rather than the centre and did you have to strengthen the mountings of the tiller to cope with added streese from the sails? Obviously moved to cope with engine mounting just interested in choices... Thanks for your videos.

The tiller and rudder stock are, in any case, special ones designed to be more sturdy. I wanted to pull the sheet from a single point instead of using the normal Vee arrangement, to make the action lighter, and on top of the tiller also allows the sheet to miss the outboard. The stresses are not particularly great.

@@SCCFORUM A tale of two parts but OK I think. Reasonably comfortable I can get the boat to do what I want now. Have passed the RYA Pt 2 but then went and stabbed some glass through my foot - put me out for last season. This year, well we all know about whats happened so far. So not much sailing been done but still confident and itching to go.

Hi David, back in your modifications videos I saw your pivoting centreboard modification and a question to you with a reply, where you say to email you to ask for drawings/plans. How can I email you? I would like to put a pivoting centreboard on my mirror dinghy and could use a bit more info, thanks heaps, Hans.

Hi David you said catting the anchor but did not show us what that meant

You are quite correct, the camera position was wrong. I wanted to explain the empty boat, as I was on the foredeck.

Catting the anchor is securing it over the bow as on the old ships and gaffers. When I weigh anchor I first pull it up and leave it hanging until I can get the opportunity to stow it properly.
