We are delighted to bring on Nina Aouilk, a fascinating guest on the 32nd episode of the Podghost podcast. Nina has survived both physical abuse from her own father and an attempted honour killing. She comes here to talk about her experience and to spread awareness of the growing number of abuse incidents. I would like to greet Nina Aouilk, ladies and gentlemen.
This now-successful motivational speaker’s childhood was horrific, as she was abused not only physically but also mentally and sexually. Her father was jailed in 2015 for the abduction of his daughter, who was later taken to India an placed in an academic institution.
Moreover, Nina has been spreading awareness about honour killing and all the abuses so that the young generation should not face what she faced earlier
Nina is now proudly the co-founder of the nonprofit organization End Honour Killings Org, which serves as a point of contact for victims and survivors of gender-based abuse and forced arranged marriages.

How many times does it takes to recount something so vile and horrendous, before you feel just a bit better, I wonder... I am in awe witnessing your graceful and unspeakable brave recollection, Nina. You are ten thousand time stronger than all your abusers put together and it shows. You can speak up and be proud of what you achieved, your abusers have to take the cover of darkness and secrecy, because deep inside they know it is wrong what they did to you... Thank you for sharing your story, Nina❤

Nina, thank you for mentioning religion. As a Muslim woman, whenever I listen to anything about "honour killings", I feel anxious to read comments, because I know that so many people scream "Islam!" as a knee-jerk reaction, even without having listened to the story properly. Also, it is SO important, like you mentioned, that we finally acknowledge that any type of abuse isn´t due to ANY one religion or culture. There are many many people living in the same religion, yet happy and mentally sound. Like you mentioned, Sikhism is very big on "seva". Even I know that as a Muslim. Whenever a catastrophe happens in many parts of the world, I know that Sikhs are the first ones to help on the ground. It is such a disfavour and selfish thing to do, to look for these types of stories just to find some sort of support for our twisted and ignorant impressions of a nation or a religion. It´s downright damaging to the cause of helping victims. People use it to pat themselves on the back and feel superior. Because what do all these people think? That, let´s say, we kill all Muslims across the world...suddenly abuse won´t exist? Suddenly, oppression of women will stop? 🙄Well then women like I would be the first ones to leave Islam! Before Islam even arrived, the tribal Arabs used to bury girl fosters ALIVE. That´s how low the status of women was. It´s a cop-out to put everything on others, due to our lack of understanding and will to truly learn. The Islamophobes DO NOT care about women! If they did, they´d TRULY put down the work to LEARN, to UNDERSTAND and HELP us to stamp the abuse and injustice out. But they don´t. Instead, their tactic is to vote for rightwing parties, practise racism on the streets and just spread hate and violence. None of the keyboard arguers hating on Islam or any other religion, would ever even invite over a brown or black neighbour for lunch...yet they claim to care about women´s rights. 🙄 And they pretend like abuse is non-existent among them, despite their worship of alcohol and casual ...... . As if they were living some sort of angelic lives just because they are white or have rich countries built on colonial looting and centuries of systematic subjugation of other nations. So just thank you...thank you for putting that out there so clearly and being FOCUSED on the real issue.

I was raised Catholic. I think it’s important that members of a faith acknowledge how and why members can be encouraged to ignore victims and how theology plays into that and to not see that as an attack. It’s the first step to stopping a cycle of abuse. This is not a criticism but an ask to consider that view. Best wishes

The issue is the Quran. Muslims follow the Quran, the Quran says in black and white that, without reciting the verses etc, )that i have looked up and read), that killing, beating wives, having up to 4 wives and paedophilia is ok. So being a muslim follows that and can use those verses etc to do as they want. I personally could not support or follow that, it’s disturbing to me.

@@indigomoon9436It's disturbing that you would lie like that about the Qur'an. No where in Islam does it teach to do any of that!, if anything Islam protects women, Islam was the first religion to give women's rights. Honor killings etc is all culturally. So please educate yourself instead of making false claims about a religion you have nothing about.

I had to stop the video in between, then returning a week later. It is SO hard to watch 😭. There is a case, recently, out of Sweden. A Swedish couple locked in one of their daughters into the laundry room, for years. She lived in her own faeces etc., tied to a baby car seat, and they fed her raw acetum (the dangerous type of vinegar), which destroyed her insides. She was found after years, and the case has been dragged for months in court. They call it "The girl and the acetum" in Swedish. She has other siblings, but they singled out for some strange reason. Extreme cases of abuse are happening ALL across the world, even in societies that we think are sorted and ideal. People need to wake up. Nina, if you are reading by any chance...I just want to say that I wish you the absolute best in this life and the Hereafter. I´m not gonna say that you are courageous and strong, because those words fall short of how amazing you are. And you didn´t have a choice. I just hope that more from your own community get in touch with you, shower you with love and support and tell their children about your work. I also hope that they support you by donating, and by inviting you to gurdwaaras and to India. Every Punjabi girl (but also others) should know your name and know your seva. There´s also another case; Mandeep Kaur. The young woman who committed suicide due to her abusing husband (it was caught on camera). Her 2 daughters are still alive, but not sure what happened to them. That case too, just broke my heart and the clips of her are horrendous. The good thing is that so many from the Sikh community in Canada actually came out on the streets to protest and highlight the plight of such women (althoug she lived in New Jersey). Even as we speak, young women are "imported" like cattle to the West, in arranged marriages, thinking that they´ve lucked out moving abroad after marriage. But the in-laws have got horrible motives (even if the bride is from their relatives) and use these women as modern day slaves (for 20-30 years). Such families TARGET and plan to get a gullible young bride from the East. I wish to see more countries digging deep into men (and women) who go abroad and bring a spouse here. The checks need to be MORE thorough, and they need to have officers who speak the language and can see through B.S. Such couples should also be monitored, and someone visit the bride regularly without any in-laws present. They should have to complete a course, to learn their rights and how to contact the police. What´s worse...I see comments by men in podcasts, encouraging each other to "Just marry a girl from back home", because they know that those young women will be given away easily by hopeful parents (who think that the daughter will have a comfy life abroad), and once they´re here...they won´t be able to contact anyone to tell them how she´s doing (as many don´t speak the language of the new country and cannot go anywhere without the in-laws´ permission or monitoring). We see these young women in our communities. These are not isolated one-off cases. Some of these women will fight you verbally, covincing that they are very happy (because being sent back to their home-country could bring shame to the parents and lower their status to a "divorcée"). We need to support newly arrived immigrant women in particular! They are completely dependent on these men and their in-laws. It´s the whole idea of theirs..to import someone vulnerable.

A heartfelt acknowledgment to these men who have shown remarkable strength by holding space for this woman through such a harrowing experience. It takes true masculinity to sit with uncomfortable emotions, especially when society often teaches men to shy away from vulnerability. These are the kind of men who might find it easier to discuss lighter matters, yet they’ve chosen to embrace the weight of another’s pain, showing deep empathy. For moments like these, when emotions run high, a box of tissues becomes more than a simple courtesy-it’s a lifeline for guests pouring their hearts out on your podcast. A bottle of water, a comforting atmosphere-perhaps a soft couch with inviting pillows-creates a safe space where souls feel free to open up. These thoughtful details honor the emotional gravity of such conversations, allowing for healing and connection. Great episode. She’s an inspiration.

Did she not go to the hospital when she had a broken jaw and arm? Did they not report it? How is she a life coach when she is barely escaping all of this around 2016? To go through the things she has been through will affect you. She is very articulate that means she is educated. The school wasn’t able to see anything?

Such a sad story to hear and sad that this sort of stuff is still happening , it's sad also , that along the way , whichever professionals she encountered failed to safeguard her and punish the evil , but nice to know , along her terrifying journey, there were some kind angels who helped her or gave her the guidance , the first neighbour who said , get help at the airport , her dog , for not barking and making her feel safe , etc ,

There’re some cultures in this world I’m sooo grateful I wasn’t born into. I remember the first time hearing her tell her story.. my mind was just 🤯🤯🤯🤯 So sad.. she seems like a genuinely kindhearted human being. I wish her all the happiness this world can give her The events at 24:00 traumatized me.. MEN ARE JUST 🤢🤢🤮

One strong, brave woman beautiful woman. Know you are doing work to save overs. It amazes me that people do evil things then when they get caught blame it on their difficult childhood- you do the opposite.

@Soprano1638
@Soprano1638 18 күн бұрын
Her father has been jailed for years but for a different crime which closely fits the profile Nina described. This time he abducted his 6 year old child who he had with a British-polish lady, then abandoned the child in area in India known for human trafficking.

The two men umming and tutting at her experiences is offputting, condescending. Learn how to show empathy in a mature and compassionate way. Listen and stop interrupting her.
