One of my best friends and I started playing this at a Taco John's every Tuesday after football practice for Taco Tuesday in 1987. We were completely addicted (to both the tacos and the game lol). We ended up actually beating the game on the same exact day.....we used to play so that whoever got the farthest or the highest score the other guy had to buy the tacos. Great, great memories.

As teenager in the 80's Ghosts n Goblins and Galaga were my go to arcade games. Ask your mother did she ever work out the cheat on Galaga that stop the enemies from shooting at you. It certainly made it easier to get to the higher levels.

The music in those arcade games was so beautiful, this is like a symphony. Never forgot this spine tingling soundtrack and the graphical effects were so good (and innovative eg the flashing treasure effect) for their time.

Fun fact: Arthur was not, in fact, the first name the knight was given. On the original Taito bezel, it calls the knight Sir Michael, as does the flyer Taito distributed. Taito’s manual might also use the name, but I cannot confirm or disprove that at this time. It wasn’t until 1986 or 1987 that he was first called Arthur, which is, of course, the name that stuck. The earliest instance I have found of the name Arthur being used is a guide Nintendo released in 1987 for various NES games, which featured Ghosts N Goblins among many other games.

I find the arcade version to be harder at the end, but maybe not so much up until the castle. It's a lot easier to cheese the gargoyles in the arcade version. You really only need to legitimately fight 2 or 3 of them in the entire game. Satan is MUCH harder in the arcade - especially when having to use the shield. The demon and ghost spawns being so frequent in the castle in the arcade is also a huge difficulty increase. The dagger in the NES version is much better than the dagger in the arcade. The javelin is probably the best weapon in the arcade version because you can throw it at about the same speed as the NES dagger. However, the dagger and javelin in the arcade version are nearly identical - except that the dagger is smaller so it could hit less targets.

@@dynamicvoltage9765 I AGREE WITH YOU WITH MOST OF WHAT YOU'RE SAYING! But the dagger is more for hitting small enemies like the small blue demons. But yes the arcade version is waaaay harder. I'm 18 and go to this arcade place where you can pay 5 bucks to play any arcade game you want so I play this game authentically. I got so frustrated and pissed off and SCREAMED when I lost to the last 2 demons. I had shield and was on the second round and needed to kill one more satans, but he got me and umm..... That's when I screamed in anger and this girl was behind me the whole time and I stared at her for like 15 seconds and shook her head in disappointment. I was so embarrassed and it felt really awkward. But I went back to playing...... I still couldn't beat it.

Arcade versions were almost always better than the ports because the arcade cabinets were far more powerful and advanced than the home consoles. Plus they were cheaper to play :)

Spent alot of dough on this game. Everyone at my local arcade wanted the firebombs but I always preferred the little dagger. That dagger could shoot really fast and defeat bosses in no time. Dagger is the best weapon in this game.

I was 7 or 8 when I first played this, was hooked instantly. Never got further than lvl 3 though. I spent some serious cash on this game every summer and autumn fair, and all of us loved watching a local gypsy kid couple of years older than us kicking ass out of it. Brings back childhood vibes!

This looks a heck of a lot more playable than the NES version with 2 huge exceptions in level 6. 1) you have 2 unicorns on both sides, making them practically unavoidable to getting hit at least once. 2) this game doesn’t have guaranteed spawn drops. While this isn’t normally a problem in the case of weapons since no more fireballs getting forced onto you because of being dropped on the top of a ladder, now you have to break those pots in order to get the shield weapon.

There were quite a few bonus tricks in this game. i remember shooting the gravestone and catching the spell the wizard sends right on zero and something happened .also there arelots of places to get Your armour back if You knew where to jump.loved this game ..its music and graphics mase You keep coming back more.played ghouls and ghosts and maximo which borrowed heavily from the g and g series

IIRC the wizard spell glitch made the timer infinite. And yes, there were a few specific spots that would trigger armor appearing. Can't remember all of them ottomh, but I remember the one near the first red arremer (Lv1), there were two in the ice area(Lv2), and two in the stone area of Level 3. I also remember the trick to skip Lvl 4 and 5's bosses.

I was thinking that it was cute for how the knight rescued the princess from Lucifer and his minions and emissaries. Is there also nothing that strengthens the knight's armory that he wears? The knight's armor used to turn gold indicating that its been strengthened.

Aren't there a few different versions by country? The one I played had a cross, I think, not a shield with a checkmark on it as a weapon, and the NES version is a hsield with a cross on it that you use as a weapon (but can't kill the unicorns)
