This exterior of this gothic mansion was used in the b&w film 'The Haunting' (1963). The film starred Julie Harris and Clare Bloom. Check it out as it's an excellent film.

Just got back from staying here - it is lovely. We had dinner in the chapel, but I found that the most vibey room was the long gallery - it was very creepy!

I worked here 88-90, never experienced anything but it was creepy. I used set up the Long Gallery for conferences during the evening. When heading down afterwards I never looked behind me and rarely waited for the lift😅Robbie was great to work for and a respected Falklands veteran.

I have stayed here on 2 occasions and experienced absolutely nothing. It's a lovely place to stay btw.

I had an "experience" at this hotel in the early 2000's. I don't believe in ghosts but something happened that night that has given me chills ever since.

When I stayed in this hotel last week, I heard a child's feet running up and down the corridor at around midnight. When I opened the door and went out into the hall, this young girl came sprinting straight at me. As I was about to tell her to go back to her parents, she just passed directly through me and vanished into the wall. o.o

Aw, man! Finally an intelligent investigation of a haunting, and it suddenly cuts off. Of course, this place has been interesting to me with its use as the exterior setting for the 1962 movie "The Haunting" , the best haunted house movie ever made! Where's the rest of what is obviously just a part of the original video?

We're all spirits of sort. The living connected to a biological body vie the ethereal astral chord. After death/separation we usually move on to the next adventure but some stay in this plane for unhealthy mental issues or for fear of retribution.

They did some building work about two hundred years ago and found a live toad in a cavity within the wall. According to the story there was no way the toad could have entered the space. Research showed that the last building work was at least one hundred years previously. The toad lived for 30 or so days before dying. A stone toad was placed on the section of the wall where the toad was discovered and can still be seen today. They say this is where the expression "toad in the hole" originated.

Yes indeed! Hill House from the classic horror film. I have stayed there twice and sadly never expereinced anything! I did hope that something would hammer like two ton weight on the door before it turned into rubber, scaring the crap out of me, but no, nothing!! Maybe we stayed in the wrong part of the place! Loads of atmosphere though.

Well, I was there back in 1997, I think it was, sitting there till very late writing lyrics, at around 10 pm, the other people in the restaurant had gone, when SUDDENLY a HUGE cracking noise from the other side of the room, and a small drinking glass of some sort, when to millions of pieces, and there was nobody but me in there, and the waiter who was outside at the reception desk, and he came running in looking at me as he though I had broken something, but - no nobody touched that glass.

Was this a Trusthouse Forte hotel back in 1989? I stayed in room 3 and was woken by a man's voice having a one-way converstaion, and noises in the roof cavity. The room was also bitterly cold even though the heating was on. I was told next day that the room was haunted and the ghost was a man who's girlfriend had broken up with him over the phone. He had hung himself from the rafters. I also remember the shower temp went uncontrollably from hot to cold. It was a very uncomfortable experience.

I was at Ettington Park when I found out that I was psychic. There used to be a nightclub in one of the rooms (I can't remember which one). I was standing with my husband on the side of the dance floor. A slip of a girl - aged around 19 - wandered in. She was wearing an ankle length white nightdress. She wanted to show me something. I knew if I followed her anywhere I would be in big trouble. I think she might have been the girl who fell down the stairs.

Ettington Park Hotel was originally called Ettington Hall. This was the place that the original 1963 movie "The Haunting" was shot. Find it kind of funny that some of the situations that happened here are some of the same elements in the movie.

@HoosierLine Yes indeed, The Haunting was shot at Ettington Park, just the exterior scenes though. I have the DVD with directors comments on it and Robert Wise said they filmed it in infared film to give it an eerire effect. Oh yeah, my wife and I stayed there on our honeymoon in 1990. Very nice place.

There are never any specifics to this story, this hotel was owned by the Shirley family for over a thousand years, who kept impeccable records, and yet everything is spoken in generalities, nonsense.
