I vividly remembered when the film " Dances With Wolves". Came out and I was really going through it with my ex- wife. And when life is at its worse for me. I learned that I some times ignore or plain don't watch movies because I love watching movie's. Acouple of months later i still have not seen the. Movie dances with wolves. I surprisingly go pick up my father and my siblings and drive two hours where they were. Still showing the movie. I loved every minute of it. It was one of those movie going experiences too where they actually had a intermission. Lol. We all got up and stretched our legs some people went out and smoked a cigarette. It totally changed my life that day. I became less angered at the world. More at peace within myself. Ill always love Mr. Kevin Costner for this film. Thank you Mr. Kevin Costner.

In my humble opinion ... the greatest few seconds of acting that I have ever seen in any movie is when Wind in His Hair tastes sugar for the first time. The very subtle change in his expression goes way beyond mere talent.

However, I would also like to submit the moment when Winds in His Hair, after he and his horseback companions, approaching the Fort on horseback, are saluted in the American way, with a "hi" gesture by Dunbar's right hand, and all of them respond in kind EXCEPT Winds in His Hair, and Kicking Bird looks at Winds in His Hair reprovingly, and Winds in His Hair very briefly and only minimally committed to it, makes a weak "hi" in return. He then quickly returns his hand to the bridle, trying to hold on to his dignity after giving in to such a silly way of greeting someone. This was when Dunbar/Dances was scolding the wolf and telling him not to follow him, and he was seen by the approaching Indians.

I remember I showed this movie to my 14 year old daughter for the first time. I knew she'd love it but she is and was a big animal lover so the wolf scene towards the end worried me but I didn't tell her anything. After that scene she had tears pouring down her face and was really mad at me for not warning her lol. She left the room and I had to tell her he's not dead but she was still so upset. She came back and we finished it but I will never forget that. It makes me cry too

I cannot separate Gettysburg from Dances With Wolves as far as a one of a kind masterpiece. I listen to both of the scores daily, literally.

I like this film a lot it's a great movie. But what I really like about it is it portrays the native American in a different light to what we normally see from films of this nature. I have a lot of respect for native Americans after all it is there country

Costner says to play the music legato (smoothly). The woman says do you know le gatto means the cat? But he was right all along,lady, he did not say "le gatto"!

actually "legato" means tied-connected, from the verb "legare". "gatto" means cat in italian (an it has a double T, which changes the pronounciation), also you would say "il gatto" since "le" is a plural feminine article. I am italian..

Dances With Wolves received it's 12 nominations on the 13th February 1991. The following day it's successor for Best Picture was released nationwide in the USA

I read that Kevin Costner asked John Barry if he could make the gunshot sounds on snare drum and that he actually did that. I think I read that in the notes to the Dances With Wolves CD soundtrack.
