GI Joe 101: The Leadership Order. A PSA for GI Joe Hierarchy.. I’ve seen others make the common mistake of placing #sergentslaughter in the mix. It’s not fans but if anyone stomached the #DIC Series ... you would think think the Sergeant was in charge... so remember 1. Hawk 2. Duke 3. Flint and 4. Beachhead... In my opinion Stalker got screwed.. what would your ranking be 1-4 ?!

@@danielherrin LOL when it comes to regular Military Rankings and applying them to the GIJoe.. Non of it makes sense. So Keel Haul is on par with Duke Level Status.. HE only reports to Hawk. But at the same time, Hawk shows Keel Hul the utmost in respect and listens to his suggestions... He is #1 in the GIJoe Navy guys.. so Shipwreck, Wet Suit, Torpedo kinda all defer to him... Actually that is a better way ..to look at it.. "Defer" system in the GIJoe ranking system.. Or Who Gets Voted as Class President

@@danielherrin At the time, though he wasn't on the toon. Also by 1991, Hawk got his second star, making him a Major General. GI JOE Colton is supposed to be a 5 star General.

Lorenzo Stalker Wilkenson of Detroit MI was a E-6/SSG. Around 1986 he bumps to E-7/SFC. A few other Joes out ranked Stalker.

In the comics stalker was the first field leader. Hawk was officially the leader but he usually didn't go on missions.

Military seniority in G.I. Joe's command structure- Hawk is 1-star General, Duke is Master Sergeant, Flint is Chief Warrant Officer and Beachhead is Sergeant Major. I know it's complicated, but then again, G.I. Joe's seniority-based command structure is always complicated!!!

Proper chain of Command. Hawk. Flint. Duke. Beachhead. Duke is in a command position as a first sergeant or a master sergeant who is really an admin position, so he out ranks in position Flint. Flint is a warrant officer, like an enlisted officer who is a subject matter expert in his field of professional expertise. Sgt Slaughter is a drill instructor and a platoon sergeant. Beachhead would be a section Sgt. He might be an E6 or staff sergeant

Flint is kind of weird in that regard. With exception to some specialties he is mostly admin with exception of some pilot. Other wish they are usually inspectors or high admin. There are some small caveats. Usually 2 medic admin at surgeon level. At a battle field level though. This would make sense by battalion recognition. Hawk= bug guy in charge Duke= Operational command and stand by= Technical mission readiness aka supply and logistics= tools,toys and tanks. Beachhead= troop readiness Side note this would be ever be ever happen. These guys would be taking from stalker and looking at a chalkboard by and lots of photos saying how they could be prepping for hit time.

I always felt like stalker was some sort of spook/spy/Cia type soldier.I always got that vibe off of him. Gi joe of course is very simplified and incorrect. They don't really have units and often aren't in any sort of goven order and just run into stuff together. Specialties are often disregarded, iceberg in the jungle in winter kit sure,lowlights a sniper recon,spirit also tracking and long range on normal missions,junkyard and mutt obviously k9 unit flying a skystriker as well as they always have their animals under water, snake eyes always going undercover looking like snake eyes, and lastly my huge peeve:: cobra commander and destro( serpentor later on) going into battle you are in charge of everything why are you on a small mission in a club or so either stuff. What if he just died escaping a mission in a trouble bubble malfunction! Same can be said bout hawk and his jet pack but damned it man. Also I'm completely unsure of cobras command structure especially with crimson guard!

@@rickdavis32 Stalker is a Ranger. He was a LRRP in Vietnam with Snake Eyes, and Storm Shadow. LRRPs were re designated as Rangers later in the war. His skill sets would be recon, jungle warfare, intelligence gathering, advanced infantry training, airborne, and combat medic. He was the original field leader of the Joes when they were a 13 man unit. Chuckles is the guy that was CIA. Maybe.

LOL that issue has been a thing since the 80s. its funny I was with particular government agency and was sent overseas to work with military personal .. Once your in the real world and come back to GIJoe.. you just have to look past it and enjoy. Regulars know my father was a Marine during Vietnam and if it wasnt for a ACL football injury I too would've followed but I completed my service working for a particular agency and I would not trade that experience .. This does raise the question: what sector does G I Joe fall under. Duke and Hawk seem to be army, , Flint could be an airmen not entirely sure and Beachead seems to be a marine and then you start looking into the lower ranks. Scarlets an intelligence agent, Shipwreck’s a navy officer, and Snake Eyes might as well be a civilian, as I have know idea what group he would be a part of. The structure of all these sectors are so different, it wouldn’t make sense whose rank they would fall under.

Actually he should be the highest Officer Rank on the Joe hierarchy cuz he is a General O-10, but he is comissioned for the joint special operations with G.I. Jane, so Hawk being an O-9 General, he is the field joint operations commander, that’s the reason why Hawk is on the top of the hierarchy.

Phyllis Hammond have to disagree ... actually when the show aired it was confusing that Hawk ( who has been the leader since issue #1 1982 of the comic. But the beauty of it is that you can be Pro Duke .

I LOVE both Flint and Beachhead, but Flint really tried to down-check the latter here, lmfao. Flint gets the win, plus he’s bangin’ Lady Jaye’s fine ass, so extra props for that. This is a GREAT scene though! As a kid growing up, I always liked Flint better than Duke. Flint was more cocky and Duke seemed like a bit of a stiff. As someone with real life experience now, though, I think I’d rather report to Conrad Hauser than to Dashiell Faireborn. Yoooooo Joeeeeee!

@@amitypredator9385 Someone explained that Flint was talking about Operational leadership's Chain of Command. Even though Duke have to salute Flint as the military standard Customs and Courtesies, Duke being a First Shirt is directly in Beachead's Chain of Command. Duke reports directly to the Commander, Flint reports to an MOS OIC. Same as an ISSM(E-5+) that reports directly to the PM (E-7+) and the AO (O-5+), a Warrant Officer would not directly be in his Chain of Command, so the Customs and Courtesies apply to that ISSM but the Warrant Officer is not his Boss. Hope that makes sense!

What I don’t get isn’t Duke a Sergeant Major if he is under General Hawk ????? Why isn’t there a Company Commander a Captain ????? Why isn’t there an Executive Officer a Lieutenant ???? You got a First Sergeant aka Duke, but that’s too much of a gap in rank. Flint is a Staff Sergeant E-6, and Beach Head is a Staff Sergeant E-6, and Sergeant Slaughter is an E-7 Sergeant First Class. In the comics Beach Head goes onto becoming an E-9 and becomes a CSM ( Command Sergeant Major ) actually outranking Duke at a later point. Love GI Joe but I can’t believe a unit like that has no Company Commander or Executive Officer. Flint should have been a First Platoon Sergeant. Beach Head Second Platoon Sergeant. Roadblock Third Platoon Sergeant. Gung Ho a Fourth Platoon Sergeant. Could you just imagine episodes with Gung Ho leading Leatherneck and Wetsuit on missions. 😅😅😅 They really need to consult the fans. 😁😆🤣😂😅🥹

It kinda should be a matter but on the other hand, GI Joe has way to many Sergeants for it to be a functional military unit. Because you are overlooking many like Stalker for example? Grunt would be one of few named regular soldiers. And what about characters like Wild Bill. Ever heard of a sergeant flying a chopper? Anyone flying any type of craft is minimally a 2nd Lt. Yet we see all the characters fly and drive whatever. I think Cobra has a more functional military leadership structure, except for the upper 2. Cobra Commander and Serpentor. Haha.
