GI Joe Classified Steel Corps Commander vs. Twilight Guard Review

Great review as always.👍😎 Here's a parts breakdown of each figure. Steel Brigade Commander: Low Light lower, Stalker upper with Beach Head neck joint, standard gloved hands they used on almost every Joe. Twilight Guard: Crimson Guard neck joint and head, Cobra Officer torso, I'm glad they didn't lose that sculpt, too bad they didn't use it on the Python Patrol Officer and Stinger Driver Officer like it should have been used. Tripwire lower and pauldrons. This is gonna make some people mad, probably, but the arms are from the Haslab HISS Driver.

Thanks for the breakdown! Yeah, well I guess it's safe to say Haslab molds WILL and ARE being reused for mainline stuff. The Retro Cobra Commander we all know was supposed to be a mainline release anyways and they panicked and tossed him into the HISS tier. But those arms were fully funded by the fans.

I know a lot of people didn’t care for this set but I really like it. I really like the look of the steel corps figures so I try and get most of them. And that twilight guard looks sick, I don’t really care for the guns but the purple looks nice. Can’t wait for iron grendadier destro!

Don’t know if you figured it out yet, but the pistol that comes with the Steel Corps Command, actually fits perfectly in the holster on the Commander’s back.

I never though Hasbro would have rereleased Gun Ho's shitty weapons, but I guess I was wrong. The Twilight Guard reminds me of Darth Vader. "Duke I am your Father"! lol Thanks for the review Lawrence!

Hey!!! We got them the same day! I like mixed bodies. Change is good. My figures had firm to stuff joints. Overall, NICE set.. not amazing.. but good. I am bummed that SCC has 2 pistol holsters and only 1 pistol. I posted a few pics on my IG. Great review Punk… have a good one! GO LIONS!!

I like both these figs a lot, I think they are great additions/complements to an "army builder" collection, without me feeling like I need to actually get 3 or 4 of each of them, since they are more unique leader/elite characters. Twilight Guard reminds me of Captain Phasma from the recent Star Wars trilogy... similar armor design to an iconic classic troop, but fancied up some.

The Steel core motorcycle guy is pretty cool, but I LOVE that cool Star Wars bounty hunter figure that came in the set amd all his space guns. Glad they are doing cross promotions with Classified and black series.

Great review. Dammit. Now I have regrets about waiting on this, lol. I do agree with your logic on why Gung Ho’s kit works so much better with the Twilight Guard. But that extra paint definitely made it work a lot better than none whatsoever ever. It’s good they adjusted this kit’s $$$ allocation towards making the old kits work and get that reuse working better for the critics. ( I still despise almost all of the Steel Corps weapons, even blue ones). I am not a fan of a half-Grenade either, which this Commander is sporting on his chest. The thing looks sunk into his chest. I have to say it seems like Twilight beats Steel in this set!

I do like the look of the twilight guard. I wasn't that hyped for him, but after seeing him now, I like the design. Still don't care much for the Steel Brigade figs tho.

i think thee problem with the og steel corps male figure is that he's oo small for that armor. He looks way better without the stupid shoulder pauldrons.

Good review! I just got my two today and have been opening one with my boys….so far we like it, a few things that aren’t “great” …..you mentioned it, I would’ve been totally ok if this set didn’t come with the outrageous amounts of blast effect and guns and was a little cheaper but on the other hand, I do like some of the weapons and all of ours were in good shape, but it’s more of a nitpick than anything. I like this Steel Corp Commander quite a bit better than those first two that came out.

I like that Twilight Guard. but he doesn't feel like an army builder. He feels like that character that saw Destro's Iron Grenadiers. So he started decorating his uniform to show off his achievements without Cobra asking him to do that.

@@Apunkwithtoys LOL. Don't blame you, I only bought the SE blu-ray for tge lenticular cover & watched it once? But Captain Phasma was the best thing about the film & probably the whole sequel Trilogy Just like Boba fett, little was known about the character, had hardly any dialogue or scenes, awesome outfit & was vastly underused(at least Fett had the excuse of being introduced late/killed off early) And Gwendoline Christie just plain rules!

I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I don't like the Twilight Guard. It's a bit too busy for me, the various colors, the cape, the shoulder armor... it just has too much going on. I like the black and purple, and the silver details. But, the grey and orange ruin it for me. If they would have used black for the boots and made the gear black with purple details, it would have looked a lot better in my opinion. I also don't care for the CG head. I love the CG, but only in their classic style. I like the Gold Head Steel Brigade, it's not my favorite, but I do like it. I wish they'd release a single packaged standard Steel Brigade with that updated buck. They could leave out the JUMP, and make it just a simple army builder. I'll probably pick up the set, and at least see if I like the Twilight Guard better in person.

There is none. Probably just a name change due to copyright of the original Cobra Shadow Guard name that were black Crimson Guard figures.
