@StoriesFromTheToyshelfАй бұрын
Yup quite the entertaining dude....would be a lot boring if he was Shipshape as he referred to himself 😅
@Cyril29aАй бұрын
Shipwreck was the best character in the Sunbow cartoon. I find this to be a classic example of marshall mcluhan's the medium is the message. The coolest original Joe was Snake eyes and he worked very well in the comic book since it is a visual medium exclusively. There is no sound, no human voices in comic books but for an animated television show a silent character limits the story telling possibilities. Pairing Snakeeyes with Shipwreck in the pyramid of darkness was an inspired choice. It allowed the void created by Snakeeye's silence to be filled by Shipwrecks boisterous personality. This is a clear example of the medium influencing how the story is told and what kind of story works best. Oh and giving him a parrot also adds to this as it gives Shipwreck another voice to riff off of while allowing Snakeeyes to stay silent. Still having the two of them walk through cobra headquarters with a wold and parrot in tow and not be recognized was extremely silly.
@StoriesFromTheToyshelfАй бұрын
Great observations! Too bad they didn't pair them up more often. Can you believe I only watched Pyramid of Darkness for the first time in its entirety last month???? Crazy no. While nowhere near the silliness of DIC...this definitely was where the writers started loosening the reigns on the humor. Still....great stuff:) break dancing Snake Eyes is iconic!

In my area, the only toy release that was more popular than Shipwreck was Beach Head. But the parrot and superior cartoon character made Shipwreck the favored over time. Then, in the Marines, I learned how fabulously accurate Shipwreck was. Gloriously on point. This was a character that needed to be made, to represent the actual performers in the world’s most competent and deadly military branch (except SEALs, they are overrated). Shipwreck did them justice.

Incompetent Joe this time? Definitely Chuckles. Shipwreck, however, for all the propping that he's "S. E. A. L. and a Joe, he doubts what the team can do (DDP G. I. Joe Vol. 2 #4).

The worst Joe? Not really. Quick Kick, Chuckles are far worse. But Shipwreck was presented as a 2nd rate, trying hard Clutch copycat in the cartoons, and of all the Joes with combat experience, he doesn't act like a Viet Nam War vet. Its no help that in the DDP run, he overreacts if anything happens to Cover Girl.

I always felt Cover Girl was too good for Shipwreck 😂
@dinomonzon7493Ай бұрын
@StoriesFromTheToyshelf Agree 💯% on that. Cover Girl should've been paired with either Clutch or Duke (see the episode Cobra Claws is Coming to Town).
@StoriesFromTheToyshelfАй бұрын
@dinomonzon7493 I know that I'm in the minority but I prefer Duke with Scarlet.....but if not I'm good with Cover Girl 👍

I was unsubbed. I've resubbed. Shipwreck is the inside joke about sailors. If a Navy version of Joe's came out with an Army guy would be the joke.

Hey thanks glad I earned your sub back! Jokenor not, he's a pretty entertaining character 👍👍👍 hope you stick around and hear more from you!

The constant blasting of pictures-to-words on your presentation makes this come across as a child’s presentation in preschool. I found myself annoyed and disconnected from whatever your message was. 🤦🏻

He had a flint lock pistol humm? I can see it now. Duke hands out m16s, mp5s, and beretta hand guns. Then finally gets to Shipwreck. Duke... i'm sorry you had to go last but you are the newest member. Duke the looks down and says ... um, well, due to budget restraints, this is all we have left. Shipwreck... you gotta be kidding. Oh shhhhhhhh shipwreck. Duke.... hey that's a cool nickname.

from your accent. are you from Philippines? Just curious. Was G.I. Joe big over there? I'm surprised when I see pinoy youtubers talking about gig joe. I never knew it was shown over there in the 80's. By the way you don't need to insert an image of every word or phrase your saying. for example, we don't need to see images ofMadeline Pryor when you say prior or images of Michael Jackson, goat saying bad and all the other corny images. Just stick with the subject. The other images are just so fake and corny.
@StoriesFromTheToyshelfАй бұрын
Hey there yup I'm from the Philippines 👍 and yes GIJoe along with all the other 80s cartoons were pretty big here too I mean we didn't get the cartoon daily and all and the toys weren't really sold on regular retail as far as I remember but they were all readily available :) I find it funny how many Americans, have this idea that Filipinos especially back in the day are pretty backwards that we live on coconut trees or something 😂 we're pretty modern even back then 👍👍👍 Anyway thanks for the feedback as well. I admit my storytellling style isn't for everyone and that's perfectly fine. But for better or worse it's what sets me apart from others and is a way I am able to share a bit of my own personality. That being said, I'd like to think I have made a conscious effort to find a happy medium and not overdo things too much. Either way, I do appreciate your thoughts on the matter 👍 thank you! I do hope you still come back for more stories and look forward to hearing more from you!

@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf THAT'S cool that you guys got the carttoons back than too. I just wasn't sure if it would be well received in Asia. cool that cartoon , toys an d comics were therr too in the 80's. I had asked acouple of other pinoys but they never watched on remember it.
@StoriesFromTheToyshelfАй бұрын
@@roelrobles91 Of course robots like Transformers were definitiely more popular given we're Asian hehe...but I think the fact that the Philippines was once a colony of America and our shared WW2 History made Joes resonate more with our culture as opposed to other Asian countries....Wait I just noticed your name, are you Pinoy too? 😅
@roelrobles91Ай бұрын
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf Yup. That's why I was asking. Other friends that grew up there didn't know what I was talking about.
