I'm replaying Andromeda right now. I still like it overall, but it without question needed more development time, and even I have to admit that it's nowhere near as great as any of the trilogy. Again, I like it, but the issues it has are far too glaring to overlook. I also don't think the timing helped it at all. It's an open world RPG that came out about a month after Horizon Zero Dawn and the same month as Breath of the Wild. The former was a brand new genre and IP for the studio that made it, the latter was new ground for a then 31 year old beloved franchise. And while all 3 had issues at launch, HZD and BotW had ultimately minor issues that could be overlooked while Andromeda very quickly became infamous for its many performance problems. So when faced with those three options, all three being a big time dump, why would you pick Andromeda? The Mass Effect fan in me hates that I'm about to say this, and again I do like the game overall, but back then and even today I cannot in good consciousness recommend Andromeda over BotW or HZD. They should have kept it back, this should have been their September or October game. Hell they had most of the issues fixed by July 2017, if they had released it then with those patches and far enough away from the competition I think it would have been more positively received. Not great, but better.
