Now THAT's a cauldron!! What do you like to use (along with the newspaper) for your paper mache? Looking forward to seeing the next step in your project!

I’ve used phone books, printer paper, paper that the stores use to wrap glass, whatever. The second video I do talk about what I would have done differently. I used a different clay recipe and I don’t like it at all. I always prefer cellulose over toilet paper.

I did this with a 3' ball too. I quickly added some fiberglass fabric/auto body fiberglass resin to the outside, then foam on top of that as the paper-mache-only is "highly weather disagreeable' (DISINTEGRATES WITH RAIN) and I have my props up for weeks before halloween.

Do you have any links so we can see it? We're going to try to use some fiberglass to make a mold and learn how to use it. We've never used used it before. We water proofed the cauldron and the pumpkins we did. One of the pumpkins has been outside since October and is still in perfect shape.

Very cool! I'm thinking of doing this to create a giant pumpkin without using a foam block

Awesome. Show us what you make. We suggest start collecting paper and start early to allow plenty of time for it to dry.

I would have put a half of a pool noodle on top to make the lip...you could have skipped the trimming. Just an idea

If you cut a slit down the pool noodles you could have placed them over the cut edge of the cauldron.

Lol, that hit me in hindsight.

Slit the pool noodles down the middle and attach.

I'm curious. Why not split the pool noodles and set them right down over the top of the rim ?
@halloweenlife10313 жыл бұрын
It’s funny because that idea hit me in hindsight. With the width of the rim it would have been a balancing act. I could have cut them lengthwise and secured them to the sides much easier than not cutting them. I made a few mistakes in this trial, I address them in the second video.

How many layers of paper mache is the cauldron. We have done 6 layers so far and feels like we need more. We are mainly using newpaper and liquid starch as our base. Just looking for your suggestions, we are limited since we live in Hawaii.

I used 6. It wasn’t strong until I put the clay on it. Make sure you have enough layers to hold the weight of the clay. And even then start at the bottom. I did have an area that went in at the bottom but you couldn’t tell once it was painted.

Don’t forget to leave the ball in until the clay dries. I took it out too soon.

Do you let each layer dry before putting another one?

I was gonna say where did u get that beach ball! Ive been looking for a large one not quite that big a good size to make the head of my Pumpkin King.. I ended up stuffing a large commercial trash bag then taking duct tape and pulling it tight around the bag to make the sections/shape of the pumpkin. This is my kind of project i like paper mache and paper clay! I make my own paper clay a recipe Cathy Lebeau from Haunt of the Hill shared with me. Cant wait to see it finished! 💛🖤💜

Hey, I got it from Amazon. The link is in the description. I’ve watched some of Cathys videos, she’s great. I started out years ago watching Draconfang and later Unhinged productions. I have a bunch of pumpkins. I plan on doing a video on that if I ever get the time.

next time use the beachball as a regular pool toy
@halloweenlife10312 жыл бұрын
Why would we do that? This is a much cooler use for it.
