Dutch trick to handle eels more easily: either drop it in a bucket with salt, or rub salt all over it, let it soak in for a bit, and then rub off the slime. Plus, the salt might attract fish!

Make sure you stay well hydrated! It is a tricky thing. Gatorade is pretty thick which makes it harder for your system to absorb. If you want to dilute it, use club soda. The carbonation makes it easier for you to absorb. Me, if I was there in that heat, I would need 2 to 3 gallons of fluids, and I wouldn't have to pee.... You need salt which is the first electrolyte to deplete on just about every one. If you start cramping, time to go home, and continue taking in electrolytes so you don't wake up at night with cramps. Hate that.....

Hey, Payton just wanted to say congratulations on the verified check I noticed that a week ago. Loving the weird bait videos as always and also love that you showed the softshell turtle because they are really cool but when they aren't what you want to catch you look past them. My first guess on the eels price per pound was going to be $30 but as I've scrolled through the comments I see that I was a little high on the price. The last thing is I finally uploaded a video on my channel and I know I said I would a long time ago but what do you put for the category of the video when uploading? I put it as entertainment but I could see how it could be "Animals & Pets", "Science & Technology", or "Education". Just wanted to see if you had any clue what works and even for keywords of the channel in the settings. Love the videos and you have inspired me to make videos also thank you for being active and engaging with the community you've built up.

Well, the only guidelines I think you'll have to consider is that because they are a foreign species (if you use the ones I have, which are conger eels) you'll have to gut them before use and only use them dead. Considering they cost about $20 per pound, there's not really any advantage to using them ( unless you're making a KZbin video and need a good title and thumbnail) My best luck for catfish in Houston has always been big live bluegill

We don't have any kind of food like that here. I live in a small town. But I'll guess $40. LOL I started watching you because my creek where I fished for large mouth bass is now full of alligator gar. I never saw them there when I was younger so I thought maybe the gar had cleared out all of them. Listening to you I now have respect for them and figure maybe it's not their fault my large mouth bass are gone. Even the carp are gone. But the alligator gars are thriving.

I’m getting into gar fishing here too but for shortnose instead. I’m using a worm and bobber and sight fishing for them but I can’t find the optimal time for a good hook set. Either I get them too early on the top of the mouth or I end up gut hooking them. Do you have any tips? Thanks!

For small gar, I would use a small, very sharp treble and set it through their outer mouth pretty quick

I don’t think we’ve gotten rain in over a month in DFW, water levels down, and no rain in the forecast until at least mid to late September. Brutal.

You need one of those light weight battery fans, it does help in the heat, we use them in deer blinds and tent camping

hi, really enjoy the vids. always learn something from your vids. i think eel is 16.60 a lb since eel is a delicacy in most countries. how about using some sort of mamamal for bait. like a rabbit or squirrel, road kill would be the most efficent for your budget.

These were even more expensive than that! They cost $19 per pound, lol. I'm trying to think of a way to film something similar to what you suggested, just have two problems I have to solve to make it work

Bro, in the past year, I've caught everything from gar to sturgeon, rays, sharks, snakehead, bass, catfish, all manner of other inshore saltwater species, to carp, etc. My channel is legitimately one of the more diverse fishing channels on KZbin. That being said, you realize I have a specialty, right? I'm quite literally recognized as being associated with alligator gar more so than most people. It's literally a staple of the channel.

Heat definitely seems worse this year, I'm just not fishing right now at all. Speaking of Heat and Al Pacino, there's a really good channel called Popo Medic, he covered the true story behind that film which happened in the 1960's-->kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5bCmHaMf65onpI
