I've worked on the water most of my life as a Watermen in Maryland and S.C. nothing beats Maryland Crab, I will say the S.C oysters were smaller but because of the higher salt did have more taste. I also lived in P.B F.L and my Sister lived in Jupiter F.L and most there boiled Crabs and it drove me nuts. Nothing beats Maryland steamed Blue Crabs with some Cold Beer. Also our Biggest catch from 1 Vessel was over 200 bushel of Sooks (female's) and 100 bushel of #1 ( Big Male's) in 1 day not counting our #2s or Peelers. We made some $$$ that day.

the water changes color cause the run off from land is dirty fresh water that takes time to mix with salt, so the different salinity waters stay separated. temperature differences can exaggerate this. many rivers running into oceans have this and the largest is where the Atlantic and pacific meet in between Africa and antarctica.

The Chesapeake Bay produces a sweeter crab meat. You have to be from Maryland to understand. We can tell the second that meat hits our mouth whether or not it was pulled from Maryland waters. A lot of Marylanders will inquire at crab shacks where they are getting the crabs before they buy and a lot will pass for out of state crabs especially given the price. We are extremely particular about our crabs!!!! Probably why every other state always compares and makes comments about our crabs.

I never had crabs until just before I married a Maryland girl. I fell in love with blue crabs. We crabbed and ate blue crabs the rest of the time we were married (18.5 years). But I have to say I caught more and bigger blue crabs in Conneticut than I did in Maryland or Virginia. Back in those days I crabbed with a chicken neck/wing/back on a handline. My best day was in the mouth of the Mystic River near Mystic, Conn, when I caught almost 2 dozen blue crabs all measuring 9 inches where minimum size was 5 inches. I never found them that size again no matter where I was crabbing. While living in Virginia I had a couple of crab traps which was really handy. I would take them out in my canoe and set them where I figured the crabbing would be good. I checked them each morning and evening. I kept us in crabs as long as the season lasted.

In the end the small variances between a crab from the Chesapeake verses a Florida crab are minuscule. It’s mainly the fact that we steam them and cover them with old bay, verses boiling. Looks delicious either way brother.

Great video as always, love seeing the kids get involved! So now for the truth of the matter. So being born and raised in coastal North Carolina and we being smack dab in the middle of blue crab country, I have to inform both Maryland and Florida that We have the best blue crabs on the east coast! If you don’t believe me come pick me up one day and I’ll prove it lol. You’ve gotta bring a big boat and a little boat though cause while you’re here we might as well fish offshore while the traps are soaking!😂 love u guys from Southport have a blessed day y’all
