No, I watched it surface for a breath and swim back to it was hanging out, where I saw it surface multiple times after (just like we watched it before catching it). Gar frequently sink backwards before swimming away, especially if they have a slope in front of them.

I got heat stroke last summer. It's no joke. The weirdest thing I experienced was the A/C increased my anxiety and the symptoms of the heat stroke, the only relief I could get was to stand up outside the car, in the heat - but that raised a red flag (not to mention not feeling my legs, and the sensation of needing to vomit, without being able to, and a mental breakdown similar to an anxiety attack).

Heat stroke's good stuff isn't it? (sarcasm) That shit will kill you and people don't get it. For only his second time fishing, Jesus is going in at the deep end! About the only thing I'd suggest is that he was dropping the rod tip a bit too much, but he's doing very well other than that minor thing.
