If I was 19 or 20 I would be trying hard to get into your school. The amount of knowledge you impart just in these videos is amazing. Please talk sometime about the school. The way you touch the horses you work on shows the depth of care and kindness you feel for them. Farrier work is not just a job for you, it is something you were born to do. Thank you.

It would be helpful if you talked a bit about how the hoof came to be in this condition. I have never seen this sort of "compaction" in a hoof. Is it natural or an issue of care? How can it be avoided? Thx.
@casdragon_59396 ай бұрын
If the hoof was hard and dry, it's likely the horse developed a small crack and just chipped the hoof off on something. He also mentions that the horse has a thin wall, so its even easier to crack/chip the hoof

First time I've seen the trick with the blow torch to soften the sole, Iwas taught by my Grandfather who used a heated iron plate for the same effect, and I agree that your students should know how to form a shoe from scratch, premade shoes will not always give the desired result, If I happened to be starting my career again now I'd be considering Farrier/Blacksmith as I think the crafts could be needed in the not too distant future.

What kind of conditions do abscess come from... I had horses, in all my childhood .. and not ones my house had that kind of issues.. and it looks like it is a common issue??? Can you explain why
@InnocentGuillotineАй бұрын
An important aspect to keep in mind when judging how common something is from this is that this is from a school, so they probably see a lot more weird/extreme cases, and a KZbin channel, so they're less likely to upload "working on normal horse foot #263632727". In this case, the horse has thinner hoof walls which likely made them more vulnerable to damage, and it seems like that damage then got an infection, which made the damage worse.

You are a fine crafts man. The hooves look bonza. For the poor horses ❤❤and their bad feet. I am glad these poor beasts get a few months out of them. More if only on good grass. I just heard you say you are in a school. If they have you there there will be decent lessons. No if the bad one can get good grass to walk on its all A1. Now at the end, job very well done and your gentleness with this lad is excellent. Thank you.🎉🎉🎉❤😊

You could use a hole in the floor like some car repair shops have you could stand in and the leg hang down so the joint doesn't need to be bent Have you ever used the foot holder like the cow hoof farriers use that clasps the food in place.

its crazy the difference from how cows are done vs horses
@brandywineblogger14114 күн бұрын
Yes, I don't the think a horse would have the patience for being in a crush. They're wired differently and would go ballistic. Cows are more Zen.

Is there a reason you don't use the grinder like they do trimming cow hooves?

Noise/sensation likely stresses out the horses, and horses mostly stand under their own power when being worked on unlike a lot of cows.
