I had a German Shepherd for 14 years before we had to put him down took care of my boys and loved them and then we had a daughter about quite a bit later and he died when she was about three, but she still remembers him because she could crawl all over him even though he was old. He never did anything but she was gentle with him. It was cool.

My spouse and I have Hunter, a 95 pound German Shepherd. This is how he acts with out grandchildren. Hunter has always been this way with all the children he has ever met. He is absolutely what we dreamed of when we brought him home as a little puppy. Now, on his hind legs, Hunter is eye level. A gentle giant.

Wonderful story! My shepherd Kyler was in a family with a newborn, when Kyler made growling noises at the baby, she was put into their basement for a year before they took her to a shelter. Kyler was full of yeast from head to ft. I saw her on tv and picked her up the next day. I spent an incredible amt of money getting rid of the yeast! Absolutely no way to treat an animal, she was just a very vocal smart dog. When i had her euthanized several yrs later i had that shelter call her former owners to let them know. ❤

I heard in the news that a familiy dog, cared for the baby day and night but when the little girl turned 2 years old the child grabbed food from the dogs plate and the dog immediately started biting the childs head until it killed the child. For this reason I would not allow a family dog this close to a child.

Number one you never put a child near eating dog unless the dog is properly trained my German Shepherd. I can stick my hands in his plate and he does nothing and continues to eat. I will not do that all the time because I respect my dog. My son has trained him properly and now he does nothing when you put your hands in his food I wouldn’t recommend it, but you never put a child around a feeding dog have some common sense.
