Congratulations on such a wonderful trophy. Fantastic job everyone!!!! I’m surprised you pulled him out of that area. My family has some property in that general area and that is a fantastic buck!! And yes the wildlife has been hit hard in that area. I used to see a lot more deer in 1991, then the ‘92/93 winter hit and the population went down quite a bit up to 90% winter kill in that area if I remember right. Then the population will increase and then drought hits hard and hurts fawn production. These poor deer never get a break. Anyway, thank you for a great video and you have a wonderful family!

Harsh winters have been killing wildlife forever. I’m from Alberta, Canada and when weather temps reach -40 to -50 degrees celcius the animals really struggle! It’s amazing they can survive temps like that.

Honestly here in Southeastern New Mexico NMDGF need to put a pause on all mule deer hunts for a couple years. Deer populations have in a bad decline from over hunting, drought, and ban on coyote hunting.

I wish there was a way around building on all their winter habitat, much as I wish there was a way around the massively over objective private units. in the northeastern aprt of the state. I love hunting here but it's a weird thing. The worst was two summer ago when they weren't successfully fawning in our area due to the sheer lack of water only to be hit by even more loss of winter habitat, at least here in Davis it's painful to see. Lots more adult bucks this last summer though, that was nice.

I feel like highways and home building encroachment is the worst thing for our mule deer to be honest. We will always have some bad winters, but when the deer can't find any food and or shelter it makes it tough!

@@MuleyFreak yeah. I agree. They’ve dealt with winter before, but they haven’t dealt with their winter habitat being gone. They’re around but not like they ought to be. They’ll spend winter in the tiniest wild patches here in Farm/Kays/CV but they’re just being eliminated. Then you go up on the benches and sure you see some deer but there’s also cat tracks as soon as the houses stop. That doesn’t stop the know it alls from blaming social media folks like you, of course, like youtube hunters are printing tags and driving numbers down, not drought and habitat loss.

The opposite is happening in Central and Eastern Canada. We've been having warm and relatively low levels of snow-fall, which has resulted in a deer population explosion due to both herd weakness and predation not culling through environmental conditions favouring survival. As is charted regularly in Ontario and Upstate NY, the expansion of the deer population results in a problematic deer tick issue, the medical results on humans, are devastating, not to mention the increase in travel hazards, and crop/competition in agriculture/husbandry. Please...look into travelling and getting your trophy....we may not have your points...but we have bucks that double the venison product of your most vaunted racks here at only 4 points...and the land you walk is breathtaking in how small it will make you feel.

It's different for CWMU's but here's what it says in the guide book...Requirement to wear hunter orange Utah Code § 23A-11-205 New this year: The Utah Legislature made changes to the hunter orange requirement, which previously specifed that a hunter must have a minimum of 400 square inches of hunter orange visible. The new regulation requires that anyone hunting big game must wear hunter orange on the exterior so that it can be seen, including one or more of the following items: a hat, shirt, jacket, coat, vest or sweater. At least one of these items in hunter orange must be visible while hunting any species of big game, unless you are involved in one of the following types of hunts: • Participating in a once-in-a-lifetime, statewide conservation or statewide sportsman hunt • Participating in an archery, muzzleloader or HAMSS hunt outside of an area where a general-season any legal weapon bull elk or general-season any legal weapon buck deer hunt is occurring wildlife.utah.gov • Hunting on a cooperative wildlife management unit (CWMU), unless hunter orange is otherwise required by the operator of the CWMU • Participating in urban deer removal, as authorized by Utah Admin.
