we used to catch mackerel that size and bigger out of newhaven in sussex just out from the seven sisters many years ago over a submarine wreck about 45 to 50 years ago ,havent been boat fishing out of newhaven since those days but would like to try my luck again but i have mobility problems as im disabled ,but never mind i enjoy watching people fishing all around the world on you tube ,its better than no fishing atal.

Its almost hard to believe Big Jumbo mackerel were so common , back in the days when we didnt rape the seas .

Its unbelievable how many ton some of these large ships suck out the sea each day. Just one days catch is more than I and many more line fishermen will see in our lifetime.

yes its hard to catch big mackerel these days last big one I caught was around 1989 1 and 3/4 pound caught on flapper herring bait 3.0 hook of harbour in Carrickfergus on a small 6ft spinning rod I switched to dead bait as nothing was biting while spinning, it took off like a speeding train ,

Just think everyone the biggest mackerel ever caught in UK waters was 6lbs 2oz in 1984 now thats some mackerel 😮tight lines everyone ...

I think they grow relatively quick but probably most don't get that old now due to the mass fishing of them
