Matt the freshwater catfish we have here in the USA are exeptional eating. There are three main species, channel catfish, blue catfish, flathead catfish. They all are great table fair. The saltwater catfish we have are not the greatest of eating. The bloodline in the most catfish species makes them taste like mud from the bottom of the waterway they live in, so we just bleed the fresh caught fish out or remove the bloodline off of the fillets.
@markedgemon3693 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Was gonna say the blood line on the catfish he had basically almost covered the fillet. I could tell it was gonna taste like shit when I saw the blood line 😅

Great video as usual. What you might not have been told by people here in the US about catfish is that we have several different types. There is blue catfish, channel, silver, mud, flathead and they are not all created equal. Some are great tasting and some are really bad but even the good ones have a couple of tricks to make them taste good. When you clean them, and take off the skin, you have to remove all the red between the skin and meat, some of them also have a lot of fat between the skin and meat that has to be removed to taste good and some of them, no matter how you clean them will never taste good.
@cjnola5047 Жыл бұрын

On one of your earlier videos from two years ago, you told people to just get out and enjoy the outdoors. So, on a whim I packed my backpack and headed to The Badlands National Park in South Dakota. I purposely chose a rather harsh yet beautiful area. I had to pack in a gallon of water 💧, plus what was in the Camelback. I hiked in six miles and spent the night. It was almost 90⁰ and windy. It got down to a peaceful 54⁰ that evening. I could hear the coyotes at night. I also saw a rattlesnake. I packed in my eReader, but didn't read much and just enjoyed my environment. I ate a meal of spaghetti 🍝, a backpacking meal. I'm now fifty-seven years old. I will try and do these adventures while I still can. I hope that you inspire people, especially young people, to get out and make their own adventures!.

Best way to do catfish is to marinate it for an hour (or overnight) or so in buttermilk with salt and pepper, then bread it and fry it like a chicken tender, its also good to bleed them when you catch them. Down south in Louisiana they rub them with a spicy rub and grill them almost to the point where they are blackened, they are real good that way.
@christopherquarry6234 Жыл бұрын
In the states we pull off the skin of the catfish before fillet it and usually deep fry it or if you pan fry it you have to put it on like a taco, they are bottom feeders and maybe those rivers and streams are way to muddy plus I saw all that bloodline in those fillets so try cutting some of that out if you ever wanna try it again me doggie!!!👍

That was fun. I learned to like catfish when I lived in Louisiana in the heart of Creole country. I've never been able to replicate it at home. That was such a small one you caught in a mud bog I'm sure it wouldn't be good to eat. There are so many varieties though. Some, as you probably know can grow to 500+ pounds around the world. The largest ever caught was Mekong Catfish a whopping 2.85 meters (9.4 feet) long and weighed 293 Kilo's (646 pounds). There was a similar size fish caught in Italy. The largest ever caught in the US was 55.8 kilos (123 pounds) and 1.11 meters long (43.75 inches). Great video!
