We got lucky and found a 2009 Interceptor with 12,400 miles on the clock. It was a chiefs car in a little town outside Houston, TX. The car was immaculate. It being the chiefs car it was literally spoiled it’s whole life being in a heated garage. Still haven’t decided what to do with it. Thinking about bidding on the EBay for a couple GT500 engines and trans combos. Just can’t quite talk my dad into giving me the $8,000 + shipping yet.
@xxcmanjrxx6 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you knew or not, but the 5.4 out of the GT500 shares the same motor mounts and even bellhousing bolts as the 4.6 that’s already in the crown Vic. They’re both the same engine platform being modular motors, the only real difference between both blocks internals aside, is the deck height is shorter on the 4.6 than the 5.4. Besides that they’re just about the same blocks.

The whole "transmission jumps in and out of gear" thing is actually pretty simple as far as repairs go. It's a Transmission Range Sensor or Neutral Safety Switch depending on who you're talking to (same thing but with multiple titles). If it's the problem I think it is where it jumps out into neutral and revs down the highway and then falls back into gear then that'd your problem. Range Sensor is bad. Sometimes the Range Sensor is on the inside of the transmission (RWD/4X4/AWD) or on the outside of the transmission. It's always on the driver side of the transmission and at the same level as the valve body. Just for future reference because I've had the same problem. Like if I've helped any of you guys, I'd love to know.
@Yogazies3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for saving me a few hundred dollars!
@threize68403 жыл бұрын
@@Yogazies No problem 👍 Many years of moisture kills the sensor. When I was diagnosing the issue I spent around $120 to fix it. I first bought a shift solenoid pack which didn't fix it then I bought a junkyard range sensor which worked. Turns out I had an unreliable source for the solenoid pack and when the junkyard sensor went out and it dumped back into gear the separator plate gasket blew out next to the EPC (electronic proportional control) valve on the solenoid pack next to the plug connector and now I have a torque converter shudder. I catch on quick enough so I kept driving it for a while and now I may have to replace the converter because of my clutch. I know some of what I'm saying has no relevance to you in terms of the fix but if you ever do replace the solenoid pack you have to torque it down to 80-90 inch lbs
@threize68403 жыл бұрын
@@Yogazies I skimmed through the video and remembered that this is about a crown vic. What vehicle did you have issues with? Mine is a 1994 f250 with the e4od transmission which has a solenoid pack. A lot of ford's wiring is similar so without a doubt the problem I described above spans across the board.

People make fun of the 4.6, but it really isn't a "bad" engine. Slow, absolutely, but when kept stock those things run forever. Great for the Vic or an F150, it was just the wrong engine for the Mustang and overstayed its welcome.
@ryand.38586 жыл бұрын
SlickDisaster26 agreed. In the past I had a mustang with the 4.6 (Mach 1) and full bolt-ons in it; aside from going through two batteries it never failed. I finally traded it in when I wanted a new car but it was still running like a champion with 165k on the clock, lol. One of my coworkers said they saw my car running around a few towns over about two years after after I got rid of it so who knows how long it kept going. People call it underpowered today but back in like 03-04 it was considered a pretty powerful engine and they sound awesome at the very least.

SlickDisaster26 I have a 4.6 f150 and don’t get me wrong, i love it, but I would way rather have a 5.4. . Stock my truck can only tow 5,000. The truck itself is real close to 5000 pounds so it’s a little underpowered. But it has a good launch from stop, real easy to break the tires loose

Yeah,one of our local police depts. proves that every night,if it's a hot West Tn night like tonight every patrol car they have will be sitting out behind the Police station Idleing with the A/C on full blast waiting to be run 130+ mph to a call,and then sit and idle the rest of the night with the A/C running on full blast,all the wig-wag lights and overhead warning lights going for possibly 8 to 10 hours or until shift change time comes. Ford Crown Vics are tough as nails.

Cleetus... stick a new Dorman (Cheap) intake manifold on it, and see if it will start. If it does, you haven't finished the job. And if that's the case, add 250 shot, and start the pull at 2000 RPM.
@f688xt66 жыл бұрын
Yep. But he did want to finish it off. Until there's a window in the block, the job isn't done. Or at least detonate a few ring lands on the pistons. I'm kind of amazed that didn't happen already.

@@getskared I had a buddy who's dad hillclimbed nitrobikes and he was always warning us about playing with certain parts..he was worried about us banging parts said some would blowup from fuel residoo or something I was a kid and didn't pay allot of attention....only time I've been near a nitro engine up close...it's either real or an old wives tale and he just didn't want dummies messing around with the good parts..lol

"Ford engines are ass and unreliable" they said. Literally a 250 shot of nitrous and it didn't blow up. I think that's pretty self explanatory.

some are like the 5.4L 3 valve, not the 4.6L, the 4.6L is underpowered but reliable
@Michigan_Highlifter6 жыл бұрын
TnT Gaming you can give a 5.3 a 350 shot and it'll take it for a super long time bottom end never complain.

trigga ville I think the reason it’s reliable is because it’s underpowered. Ford didn’t let you make enough horsepower with those motors to blow them up.

Though I love Crown Vics and I've owned 3 they suffer from transmission issues if you have a 1998-2003 . 2004 to 2010-11 are awesome though though they're not as fast as the old 9c1 Caprice built from 1994 to 96 with the 260 horsepower LT1 from the Corvette and also used in the Camaro .the growl of that Ford 4.6 just sounds so damn good

I mean the 4.6 did pretty beastly for the rods being rated for 450 wheel or around 500 crank if it had a cast to aluminum intake you probably could have teak ken it to that point of destruction. was an awesome video nonetheless.
