LeRoy is FAST, he's unique, well, he WAS when Cleetus first brought him out BUT there's quite a few 'copies' out there now BUT he's not the Cleetus image Neighbor and Ruby are. Used to be we seldom saw a car making a pass without all the body work on 'em,, then the racing community met LeRoy and the racing scene changed. As a welder I don't know how that engine mount is going to work out, you can't really weld cast iron without alot of prep, mostly preheat and letting it cool very slowly along with using the right filler and slowly welding and using a needle scaler to help prevent stress as it's welded. I was watching on the big screen and could already see the crack developing in the weld. I usually don't like being the negative one here but please keep an eye on that mount.
@austinwelch1132 Жыл бұрын
Looked like there was already a crack in the fresh weld too, which isn't uncommon when welding steel to cast iron without proper prep... Hell, even with proper prep. That's why I prefer to braze if it's not cast to cast, but the vibration could be an issue.

I feel for Tye welding the motor mounts on. Back many years ago, I worked in a shop and we got cast iron knitting heads from a textile mill come periodically that had cracked and started leaking oil. Old guy that I apprenticed under had finally came up with a system to weld them. After extensive cleaning and prepping, we would build a temp furnace out of fire brick, get the head in there, ( it weighed about 350#) slide a burner in through a slot and heat the head slowly until it was dull cherry red. Turn the flame off, open the furnace, slide it out, and braze it with acetylene torch and brass rod. Finish up brazing as fast as possible, and then slide it back in the furnace and close it up to cool off slowly. Worked great. He tried everything before to weld them, nickel rod with pre heating, tig with different alloy rods, etc. Nothing worked except the furnace deal. Some of the hottest days I ever had putting your head inside that head and brazing it.

@@MZ-bl6wg I am so very sorry. I must be an empath because I felt your pain and can relate. First of all, you are correct in that this is all WRONG. Second of all you are a red blooded man if this situation hurts. Third you are here using automotive entertainment to kind of take the sting off all that has went down. I've got 3 children 2 different mom's. My daughter is 17 going on 21. She surprise visited me 2 days ago just to say hi. She reminded me how she needs grandpa's 1968 Oldsmobile red convertible for her graduation next year. I just said yeah it will be ready. My 2 sons...last time I seen them was april 19, 2015 at 9:15pm. I literally have not saw them one time since that date. No I didn't do anything stupid or unlawful. I had legal parenting time with my 2 young sons at the time, while the soon to be ex was prego with somebody else's baby. She didn't answer the phone all day for her "call". At 9pm I'd been playing all day with my 3 kids and my then gf's 2 kids. We did cool fun stuff all day. I cooked dinner for everyone and had to lay down and take a break as I was simply wore out. The ex came with the cops and seen my new gf and freaked and made excuses that I hurt my children. The cops said she should take them. I didn't even have a say so in the whole thing. I fought this for 3 years straight till I was totally and completely out of money. Every single time we went before that f.o.c. "judge" it just got worse. After another 3 years trying I just ran out of resources and breath.. My 2 sons are now 11 and 9 respectively. I don't even know what they look like. The daughters mother got with the 2 sons mother during divorce and made me out to be a terrible person then high 5'd after the hearing. My attorney pulled me out of there. Those two conspired to get my dollar worth. They didn't get it but I lost my kids. The two mother's were trying to get at my retirement fund. That was something you can't just take from like a bank account but they tried. I kept working and paid $2340 per month as a regular mechanic, while taking home $1240 per month after taxes and all. Did this till I had health problems. First I started going blind. Then it progressed fast and I was diagnosed with MS. Now my 3 children's mother's get a full $844 per month per child and I still pay arrears that I don't owe, almost $1000 per month. Living off of $1048 per month and whatever I can sell from my personal property. Don't care if people don't believe me, I know people who been dragged thru this system does because this crap exists. That is my empathy part, I know how you feel my friend. It's not right and never will be. I bet money you live in a liberal blue state or at least a blue city. This is why things are this way. Again... I wish you the very best my friend. Contact me anytime if it all gets to feel like too much.

Losing 6500 is not good unless you find a way to make money on it, say with KZbin views, then and only then does losing $6500 not eventually bankrupt a business.

I remember being most impressed when you did a (fifth gear?) Burnout in Leroy. The clutch cars, either Leroy or Neighbor I'd be intimidated by, but willing to give her hell in a burnout box. Toast would intimidate me too much, in my experience, with clutch cars you can feel if something is breaking or going wrong through the pedals, while automatics and such just fly apart with little notice. Probably that only makes sense to an amateur like myself. But I'd be overwhelmed by toasts' deafening roar, and my inability to judge wheel speed etc. All the rpms sound the same with Toast as well haha

The weld on that motor mount is cracked. Grind it out, heavy bevel, preheat to 400F (soot it up with an OA torch and when it's hot enough that the soot burns off, it's up to temp). Use a nickel 99 rod. There are other rods out there, personally, I'd use Palco rods, but they're hard to get. OR braze it. You can probably TIG braze it, but I've never tried that.

@@AB-80X they are a high performance factory built cylinder head. Kinda rare, and the best possible cylinder head for a small block mopar back in the day before everyone came out with aftermarket stuff
@AB-80X2 жыл бұрын
@@Odium515 I think you missed me there. I know what they are, that was not my point. Too much engine? They are building an oddball burnout car. And even with that thing turning 7500 rpm, it's just fine for that at about 550-575 hp, IF it will spin that fast once running. The X heads are cool little heads, but while they were the dogs cahonies back then, you need to think about what kind of power they actually make. They are iron heads too, so I'd worry about hot spots when running sustained high rpm. We can also be much more simple. There's no such thing as too much engine for such an oddball project.

@michaellong97362 жыл бұрын
It is cast isn’t it? In my welding of cast on the farm, you have to either weld it with high nickel cast rod(SMAW), or get both pieces orange hot, and then weld it in order for it to hold.(MIG or TIG) And even then, you have to plan for the piece to significantly warp towards the last weld that’s laid. It’s usually never easy to get cast to hold a good weld. Lot’s of heat, and high nickel, and a slow cool down time. I’m sure they did a good job. Heck yea brother.
