I’ve found that the only way I’ve been able to get the chains on without too many adjustments, is by lowering tire pressure when installing and adding air pressure once installed. Keeps everything tight.

Chris that’s what I’m talking about ,big wood . The kind you use your pallet forks to lift up on to the splitter. They yield a lot of split pieces. And gives your chainsaw a chance to prove it’s self .happy cutting Chris and Ken. My mother had a picture taken in 1920 ,in Chippewa falls Wi ,the guy was standing at the cut end of the tree. The log was about 3ft over his head. Yikes ,keep on cutting

If I may make a suggestion, and if you don't take it I could care less. If the next round of wood is dirty like that. Get a carbide chain. They are expensive, but you don't have to stop and sharpen. They will cut a little slower, and loosen more. I had cut a lot of wood from a flooded river, mainly ash. The wood was covered in sand, rocks, weeds , and other crap. Once I went to carbide my production almost doubled. No need to use the ax to peel muddy bark away. Just trying to save you some extra work. Have a good day!

Tire chains are such a pain in the dong, that I decided long ago- if the roads are bad enough to require chains- I'm not driving. I went to my favorite honey hole yesterday to clean up the rest of the old maple logs still solid enough to use- and discovered that it is now FULL of giant chunks of tree service wood. Much of it at least as big as what you have here! There's even some silver maple that's 5' in diameter!!! There's at least a dozen or so entire yard monster trees here- all silver maple or honey locust. They chipped anything 6" or less, then dumped the rest here. One of the maintenance guys told me that my other go to spot is ALSO full with just as much. Me and my 16" bar are feeling a bit outclassed! Plenty of 6-12" logs, too. YEARS worth of good firewood- for free. I'm kinda looking forward to trying out different techniques to see just how big a log I can cut with that bar.
@InTheWoodyard2 жыл бұрын
My advice is to get a 70cc or bigger saw and a 24" bar as soon as you can, you will be glad you did!

@@InTheWoodyard Believe it or not, I'm actually looking to get a top handle "baby" saw next, lol. The one I have is awkward to use for the trimming and ripping jobs around the yard, because the power unit itself is quite long. It also has a tendency to fling individual pieces around, unless you pinch them against the dogs- making it difficult to complete the cut. I love that little saw John (fricknjeep) has- it looks perfect for me! Probably a Stihl, because I have a local mom n pop dealer that also works on them. I'm just cutting for me, for my grill and campfires, so I can just ignore anything my saw can't handle, lol.

I’ve got a giant firewood oak in my back yard. Hurricane Ida gave it to me. It sucks.

Make some firewood out of it!

Where would I buy a truckload of wood like this we would have a bunch of oaks that we’re cutting down but we want to keep most of the big ones

For dirty wood like that, a person should almost have one of those chainsaw debarkers that the log home guys use to make a ring around where you’re going to cut it.

yup, but everything you do takes time and energy to do!

I don't understand why you have to adhere to 16" blocks for personal use. By cutting 17 inch blocks you wouldn't have any cut offs, or 15" blocks you would have a decent size block for your furnace.
@kennethcarlson87132 жыл бұрын
We try to cut every thing 16 because we don't know if we are going to burn it ourselves or sell it
@homersimpson56682 жыл бұрын
16” is basically the standard average for most fireplaces around the country
@InTheWoodyard2 жыл бұрын
A lot will be sold and 16" is standard , everywhere in the mid-west if not the USA.
@edhansen85312 жыл бұрын
Lol. Like you said on a 3 ' diameter block the slightest slant you are going to be an 1' or 2 out anyway so don't worry about, . Just pulling you chain . Have fun.
@danbentsen2 жыл бұрын
Don't know why you guys don't have a big block saw ( 084 stihl ) for big wood so you can cut in one pass. Then you dont have to run around & all over your log to get through , maby Husky makes a big saw that will get through in 1 pass.
@InTheWoodyard2 жыл бұрын
Because we do not cut a lot of it up to now. Are saws are a 395 and a 592 , plenty big and 24" bars so we have to cut both sides, no big deal.
@iffykidmn81702 жыл бұрын
@@InTheWoodyard Looking to upgrade from 70cc and 20" was considering 592 or 395 with 28" how well do you think they would pull a 28" in that kind of wood? I never liked the way my 70cc pulled a 24" b&c in hardwood.
