The eel bites the octopus’s arm the octopus is like oh you don’t blows ink at him as his way of saying fuck off

It was just a defensive response. The wolf eels behavior was territorial. If you watch to the end of the shot, the GPO posture vertically and stands all of the nodules on its mantel up, as a way of saying, I won.

Awesome that you caught a GPO put hunting. Even more awesome that you captured a territorial dispute, the GPO reaction, while still keeping the footage calm and focused. Many divers would have overreacted, screwed the shot up, and turned the camera toward themselves so they could strike a pose to show how awesome they are. Great job on continuing to record until turn action was over!

Thanks Trynn. Yes, it was a once in a lifetime experience. So cool to witness and I am glad that I could share. You should see it in full res. Crystal clear. I had a new diver (11th dive) that did not know to avoid putting her dive light in the shot. That is the only thing that distracted a little. GPO's are so amazing!

@@edcapelle620 If that’s the worst of her mistakes as a new diver, then she did very well considering all the possibilities 😀 They are amazing creatures and I hope to be as fortunate as you were that night and see one up close while foraging. Keep up the good work!

Thanks. I was very fortunate to have been at the right place at the right time. My dive buddy saw this on her 11th dive!

I just returned from Cozumel a couple of days ago and we had some of the best snorkeling possible directly outside of our hotel along the corral walls there close to the marina on the one side. Now I have to research all the amazing ocean life I saw there to find out how they are born and grow such as how to stingrays reproduce and most of all, the various starfish, ells and the conch sea shells. Hermit crabs and the like. Truly amazing! Great video of the octopus by the way 👍

I love Cozumel. Did you stay at Scuba Club Cozumel. Look further on my channel and you will see a lot of Cozumel footage. Look for the mine sweeper wreck.

This is as good of a video of a Pacific Octopus as I have ever seen. Mine at Hoodsport are always under a rock or old boat Where were you? Please include a description when you upload. 🤗

Thanks. Yes, pretty epic. To capture a wolf eel attacking a gpo and have it ink were cool. It was film at the Knuckle at Flag Pole.

@@edcapelle620 So cool !!! That was a territorial bite, not a "I am going to eat you" bite. :)

Had that octopus been hungry he would've devoured that Eel

No, I don't think so. Wolf eels are not really a part of their diet. But, you never know.

GPO's are very curious and not a threat to divers. They have the intelligence of a dog.
