Alex scours the wasteland in search of the essentials: water, gasoline, side missions, towers, and a whole bunch of upgrades.

To be honest this looks way better than Alex is making it out to be. I think Alex is just bummed that it's not Mad Max-ish enough. Maybe because I'm not a long term Mad Max fan, but the recent movie and this game look really awesome. I really like the WB "brand" of open world games.
@Mordalon9 жыл бұрын
+JuggernautOfWar It seems like the biggest issue with it not being Mad Max enough is that people like this setting partially for the crazy death machines with a crazy assortment of weapons, but for a long while all you do with your car is shoot a harpoon and ram.
@DystopianCreativity9 жыл бұрын
+Mordalon And that's understandable. I'm an upgrade addict, and so I don't have that problem, but I can understand how there are people who would. But on the other hand, it is a post-apocalypse, so it makes since that you wouldn't start out with a tank that shoots nuclear unicorns.
@Mordalon9 жыл бұрын
DystopianCreativity The thing that makes Mad Max's post-apocaypse entertaining and stand out is how improbable, unrealistic, and absurd it is, so having a game that has you deal with the mundane busy-work like gathering parts and managing gas and water does seem like a conflict of tone. The progression might be more engaging if each upgrade felt like a more significant change, instead of just making you slightly better at harpooning and making your car tougher.
@DystopianCreativity9 жыл бұрын
Mordalon Fair points all around; I'll admit that the upgrades do, at times, feel a bit small - even as numbers-for-the-sake-of-numbers upgrades go.

+JuggernautOfWar I think its just a matter of how many games you've played like this, and what your particular tolerance for it is. It seems like a pretty solid game, just that it doesn't have much particularly new or exciting. Alex has most likely seen a ton of games like this. Personally, it looks like something I'll enjoy down the line but I'm not in much of a hurry to pick it up.

28:41 "Let's take down a camp!" he says, as he turns away from a scrapulance that's heading the other direction. [heavy breathing] That's 500 scrap! 500 SCRAP! Also seems there's a lot of people calling it mediocre. I'm wondering how many of those people have played it more than a few hours.

Mad max game is really quite fun, particularly its side missions such as various camps and top dog :) i recently began playing it myself, yet to handle so much parts of map

Well I just beat the main story, along with many many many side missions and things done in the wasteland (20-30 hours) asides from a couple of instances, it has been an overall positive experience. I like things being laid out "buy the numbers" as said in this video, I like knowing what to collect, where to collect it and how many to collect. I like having a clear "next mission", and loads of stuff around it to clear out first. Car combat is fun, fighting on foot is like Batman, but a lot more brutal, after a while, you're cracking skulls on walls, breaking bones and spin snapping peoples necks.
@ShadeWMD9 жыл бұрын
+Trakker1985 I keep hearing people talk about the car combat and missions, but is there any decent overall story to be had? I can't get an answer from anyone on that.
@Trakker19859 жыл бұрын
Well i'll answer, no, no there isn't an amazingly deep narrative in this game, much like the movies. Max has lost his car, he's gotta get another one, spends the game working for other people to get what he needs. a fair few of the NPC characters are pretty interesting, but Max has the personality of emo amnesic mud. he's sad and moody, but can barely remember why, there was one point where he seemed like he was developing, but the writers smacked him back down to mud before it could go to far. But of what story there is, it's serviceable enough, there are far worse narratives out there, but there are far better. but in the end, he's pretty much left with nothing again, because this game is sorta setup as a mini bridge between the last old Mad Max movie and the one last year.

Alex you're such a great critic, you had one and a half hour to think about things to say about this game and the best you came up with during that whole time was: "There are things i like about it but i just don't know man.."

mmmm, look at the saltiness of those dislikes. When it comes to Giant Bomb, its Alex, Austin, and Dan that get that much heat. The top three heels of GB.

I like Dan a lot. Put him with Jeff or Drew, and it becomes amazing.
@DystopianCreativity9 жыл бұрын
+drummerknot131 People don't like Dan? Since when? At least when he was at GI, people loved him. Or loved to hate him - or even hated to love him, but did so anyway! Maybe I haven't paid much attention, but it seems to be the same case at GB.

I like open-world games, but the WB brand feels like they're light on story and stuffed with lots of busywork like Joker collectibles or flying through rings. And traveling. Arkham Asylum had the perfect pace. All these other games feel like you're running around in a copy-pasted collectathon world.

Did an entire road just pop in like 3 times? Like I mean pop in textures happen, but a whole road? come on. and this game doesn't look bad at all, but it looks very unoriginal. it just doesn't look like it has anything new to offer.

rofl, yea the red dead animal skinning animation was excruciating. occassionally it would glitch and i wouldn't have to watch the whole thing, but that didn't happen often enough. basically anything that doesn't auto collect or have a short animation is going to get old after the first few times - you can understand not having auto collect for stuff that might fill up your inventory, but stuff like currency carries no negative connotations (there's no reason you wouldn't want to pick it up). and heck, even destiny has auto collect for the loot and glimmer and stuff (only crafting materials found in the world need a button hold/press).

Man talk about a guy over-thinking a game. Can't a game just be FUN TO PLAY ANYMORE? Does EVERY game have to come up with some big new twist on shit to to "impress" these negative review dopes. It wouldn't matter if they DID come up with something new like Shadows of Mordor....these guys would be like..." Meh, I guess it's alright....What game is coming out next." So fucking annoying.
