It's real bad. After I beat it a friend called me up and asked me to play through it with him, so I threw it back in my 360 which then immediately red ringed. It knew.
@TylerTramz7 жыл бұрын
RE5 was stuck between trying to be an over the top action game while trying to maintain some semblance of survival horror. It failed at both. It plays exactly how RE4 plays and yet, the game around it is begging for you to play it like a modern (at the time) 3rd person shooter. It's a mess, the inventory system sucks, Sheva sucks, Jill's nose somehow got bigger, the action set pieces are shit, and the final boss is an abomination.
@mrweatherby7 жыл бұрын
Pretty much! Really my biggest issue was that the game controlled just like 4, but the enemy behavior and environments begged you to play it like a stock third person shooter. It was clunky, had some of the worst partner AI I've ever seen, and the story might be the worst to come out of that franchise (which is saying a lot.) They managed to make fighting Wesker in a volcano an aggressively unfun experience. I'll concede 6 is probably worse, but I wasn't foolish enough to try it after playing 5.
@mrweatherby7 жыл бұрын
See that's the problem, the game is designed such that it badly wants to play like a stock third person shooter. It's not a strike against the player so much as a strike against the game. Resident Evil 5 is not good.

Does anyone know the difference between Easy and Normal in terms of how often Daddy follows you around the house? I'm playing on Normal, and I find the rate at which he stalks you is annoying, not challenging. I can't look anywhere, I can't explore because Jack's always walking around, even immediately after you kill him.

I'm so sick of all these horror games where you're just running from shit all the time. Stuff like Outlast and Alien Isolation I hated, give me stuff like RE4 or the PS2 Silent Hill games for horror, fuck this shit.
@Pawg_Alf7 жыл бұрын
yeah, horror games should be like horror movies. Where the protagonist just grabs a weapon and beats up Jason over and over. the end.
@CPUT997 жыл бұрын
I agree. The Evil Within I also gave up on quickly for its "fail states" versus certain enemies, like on Outlast/AlienIsolation.. ie you get caught by / touched by a monster at all and it's game over and back to a load screen. Amnesia also comes to mind. It's a trope that's popped up in the horror genre recently and has gotten old fast.. for what it's worth, I've seen other footage of this (RE7) and it looks like you can at least fight back and kill the enemies in certain sections rather than being forced to run away the entire game.
@DandyGuy7 жыл бұрын
There were so many of those kinds of games that people got bored of them, that's why Amnesia, Outlast, and Alien Isolation exist. Personally I enjoy both kinds, with a slight preference to being able to blow the head up of whatever is chasing me. Feels more rewarding than just hiding in a closet until it goes away...
@SiGhast7 жыл бұрын
If I'm actually looking for horror I _much_ prefer the likes of Outlast, Alien: Isolation, Amnesia, etc. Haven't played much SH, but RE and the like are the cheesy slashers of horror games. I like them a lot, but they rarely allow for actual scary shit, and are generally just action-adventure with horror as a visual theme.
@Xbob427 жыл бұрын
Who's so wrong? Me? I just said I killed the stuff easily. I didn't make a claim whether it was scary or not. RE7's a very tense game, and if you want it to be scary, you should definitely crank up the difficulty, but it's still RE, you can blast your way through as long as you're not missing every shot like Dan here.

This game looks great, but there's a problem I've found after watching loads of videos and trailers that is; The Bakers aren;t scary! They talk SO MUCH and they say SILLY things. They make jokes and speak with exaggerated southern euphemisms. Wallking around the house is terrifying but the actual people in it aren't scary in the slightest. REALLY wish they didn't speak so much

So I was going to buy this game today but then watch your video here. I'm sorry but any game where you hack someone 30 times with a chainsaw, split their head open 3 times, hack them some more but then die. I don't know...I just wish games could be a little more realistic in that sense. It's just silly watching you destroy that guy but then he turns around and kills you. Seems like it would take be out of the experiences and makes me rejudge my purchase...
@Cyrribrae7 жыл бұрын
Realistic? You watched this video and what you want out of it is realism?
@Seafury20047 жыл бұрын
That's not what I said, and I don't understand how you can even read this and be silly enough to thing I said I want a completely realistic experience. It's clearly not a realistic type of game. If you read my comment I said I don't like the idea of hacking someone 30 times with a chainsaw, spiting their head open 3 times, hacking at them some more but yet they turn around and I die. That doesn't seem that fun to me. The "a little more realistic" comment was meant to suggest I wish there was less of the same hacking for 5 mins and/or I wouldn't die and have to do the exact same pointless hacking again

This game is great except the boss fights are fucking awful. They take way too long, their health is so high, incredible frustrating mechanics, and I don't like the bakers as intimidating villains. The bad guy banter gets so fucking old on the 5th attempt. I love the new direction but the boss fights are terrible

So it adds nothing to the RE lore? Great.
@brucedoyle40557 жыл бұрын
Actually it does, if you have played it you would know. This game is both a step back and forward, a game that went back to its old roots of being a survival horror game again but with a new story and characters. This game is a continuation of 6 but not a direct one since it tells a new story but at the end you see someone familiar.

@LazerFocus31137 жыл бұрын
Good game but you're making it out to be a lot more dynamic than it actually is... The AI is as thick as bricks and heavily scripted. Later on in the game you can see family members basically repeat a single line in a building patrolling it over and over. There really doesn't even seem to be any semblance of AI in the game.
@DiscoMouse7 жыл бұрын
The so-called scripted events aren't heavily scripted, they're tied to certain parts of the house etc but they're not mandatory, not the kind of thing you're going to find fault in unless you go looking
@LazerFocus31137 жыл бұрын
That's the literal definition of what scripted is. The AI also traverses the same single line over and over depending on how far you got in the part of the map. Mama Lantern for example. Once you come across her she will only pace back and forth down a single hallway over and over and over until you either run past her or "sneak" past her when her back is turned. There is no AI involved at all just her set on a patrol loop you can do yourself in pretty much any RTS game and attacks when you're directly in front of her. All the family members are like this. They just follow the same patrol spot depending on where you are in the game which is evident given how the guys playing kept saying "How did he get up there?!" He teleported. You can trigger them despawn altogether too like in the above video instead of running down the hall from the bathroom just turn and jump down the gap in the stairs then run away, he'll completely despawn. Enemy AI is scripted, heavily scripted. There's no question about that. There is very little dynamic play involved here at all.
@DiscoMouse7 жыл бұрын
+Larry Smith to me, if your definition of scripted includes events that are context sensitive, then it's not a very useful definition. In games, enemy behaviours are just a collection of "if this, do this" statements, so in that sense it's all "scripted". Something like Jack being behind the door after you drain the tub is more of a scripted event in the traditional sense. But, honestly for a game with this scope and tone, I don't see how they could have done anything else. As for simple patrols, I haven't seen them outside some videotapes, which I don't enjoy but they seem to be positioned as tutorials, so I let it slide.
@LazerFocus31137 жыл бұрын
Scripted means the AI is wholly dependent on where it stands, what it does and doing what it's supposed to do when X is triggered such as running past the wall where Jack breaks out of. He will always break through that wall if he's in the same section of the house if you run or walk past it. He actually teleports there. The AI is just dumb and very, very simple scripted events. I've beaten the game and called out everything the AI was going to do just before it did it. The Lantern boss for example, she will only patrol the same stretch of pathing over and over. She won't even react to you when you're ten feet ahead of her and she's looking straight at you then she'll just point her lantern at you, stand on the spot and have her flies attack you. It's scripted. Jack does the same thing when he's not chasing you. What you wouldn't deem as scripted is the Alien in Alien: Isolation. It has free roam, freedom to move where it wants, freedom to react to noises you make or any noise in general, freedom to react to things you do. In RE7 there is zero freedom in AI, it's on a very tight leash and will do the exact same things over and over on every playthrough, only being different because it's taken out of sequence when playing in Madhouse difficulty. Hell, even Jack is demonstrated as being heavily scripted when you switch from Normal to Madhouse difficulty when you unlock the Scorpion Key via use of Antique Coins, he spawns in as soon as you pick the damn thing up and follows the exact same behaviour as he has in normal mode except... They made him move faster. Boss fights will also ALWAYS play out the exact same way. Always. You honestly can not say this game's AI isn't scripted. It shouldn't be that hard to see, especially if you stop for a second and simply open your eyes when you're "hidden" from the Baker family.

@BurtonRadons7 жыл бұрын
That save rooms are impenetrable by intelligent enemies really sucks. It's so obvious (the chase music cuts out as soon as you get in the room) and it means that every time you try to use any other method to hide, you know you're intentionally choosing something that can fail instead of going to a save room and "evading" them every time immediately. Stealth options need commensurate disadvantages, or the whole structure collapses.
