I'd suggest reading the manga over the anime because a lot of people feel like the first season really dropped the ball. Season 2 (the one with this character in it) is worth watching when you get to this part of the story, though. Plus this arc is the last one that got animated, so you'll need to read it to find out what happens afterward anyway.

@@phantom9831 animation prevented it from being a hit. Black Clover is probably the only anime in existence to get away with poor animation quality. I mean this animation wasn't bad at all, it was just generic. When you're not a top established brand already, having generic at best animation kinda do you in.

@@ghostwalker89 well there's a bit of that, but that's not the only reason, there's also tre fact that the first season has fillers right in the first eps and made the show a bit too comic compared to the manga (when even if there are many comic moments, there are way more serious ones than what have been shown in the adaptation), which put aside what could've really made it interesting, the serious themes that are explored in the manga. The anime isn't "Bad" by any means, but isn't good either, and just went a bit too much on the shonen tropes (that's at least how I Saw it)
