This exactly! They are being careful how they approach/phrase it but that is basically the Marty signature edition!

TheWizardsPajamas Let’s not overreact here guys. This model was in the Gibson range in pretty much exactly this same spec in 2019 already! The construction is exactly the same on this guitar (the 2020 model) as the 2019, including all the specs that Marty mentions: the block inlays, the rounded C shaped neck, the MHS pickups (although if you follow the link to the Gibson website they say it has T-Type pickups now, which would be the only notable change from last year), the 60s cherry finish (although there are fewer different finish options this year than last), the figured maple finish, the thermally engineered woods (center block and bracing), the Grover tuners, the ABR-1 bridge, hand-wired harness using orange drop capacitors, etc. etc. Really, this is not a “Marty signature” guitar. It’s a guitar in Gibson’s existing range that just happens to have many/most/all of the specs that Marty obviously prefers. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’m a terrible guitar player but I absolutely love guitars. They’re like works of art to me and the ES-335 is the most beautiful of them all, IMO. I have a Strat and a Martin now and one day I’m going to own an ES to round out my modest collection.

Jonathan M. Dude thanks I really appreciate the kind words. You’re 💯 right about the practicing. I’ve started playing when I was 14 and I’m now 38. Sadly I rarely even pick them up anymore. Never seem to be able to make the time. I also lost my left thumb a little over 10 years ago which made difficult to grip the neck well, some chords are almost impossible for me to even shape. I’m sure like anything in life if I want it bad enough I can figure it out.

Mr. Marty Swartz, This video is very special to me, because when I was watching this video when it came out (on Feb 21st 2020), my parents bought me the Gibson 2020 ES-335 Dot, in the Sixties Cherry. When they showed me my guitar, I was so excited to finally have a Gibson. I still have it to this day, and that 335 still plays like a charm! So that's why this video is special to me! Take care, Wyatt. P.S. Keep jamming, You're very good!

I got mine last year, one of the last ones from Memphis, My ES-335 Figured is in Natural finish and I really love everything, the tone, the rounded neck,everything...and as Gibson states on their website, this ES 335 may be the best one yet. I wanted a 335 since I when to Eric Clapton 1994 “nothing but the blues” tour - concert. I decided then that one day I’ll get mine, after almost 25 years I fulfilled my dream last summer, my only regret not doing it sooner but this new models are really great. Congratulations on your new 335 and welcome to the family of 335 happy owners 🎼🎶.

Hey Marty! Cannot tell you how much I enjoy your videos, particularly this one. What made me want to play a ES335 was Clapton playing one during Creams farewell concert in 1968. He used a 1962 - 64 cherry one I think. Congratulations on being gifted such a special guitar from Gibson. I do not have one but If it were me it would be the highlight of my entire life. It does my heart good to see a champ guy such as yourself who lives guitar music and shares the love to get a heaping dose back from the Mecca of Tone, the Es335 production line. I started on a later 60s 335-12, which did not stay with me past um...75. Never did I think it'd be irreplaceable, but so it was. I went through the Memphis facility drooling, but hey, good stuff is expensive. So to drop one in your hands is a huge deal, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Good camera, good focus on him (notice the depth of field blur on the amp in the background) and the guitar which is bright red and lively makes him stand out a lot in the frame (which works great in my opinion).

That's a beautiful guitar. Sounds great too. Your playing seems inspired. BTW, I just got a ES-339 that I love for all the the same reasons you gave. It's my first semi-hollow and I really like it.

Hello Marty, some bloke from The Netherlands here. I started to play electric guitar like 2 months ago. A friend of mine was so kindly enough to lend me his Silver Star and small amp to begin with. Your 4 Very First Guitar Lessons video's tough me already so much, and I cant thank you enough for this. However, I have one small favor to ask you. Can you please make a short video of how to learn the piece you do at 5:00 till 5:17? From now I will try to learn it through this video. Once again: Thank you for teaching me how to play! I have a long and hard road ahead of me, but you will make it allot more easy and fun. Thanks!
